[Movie] My Take on the movie "Inception"

The movie is written and directed by Christopher Nolan. The movie stands as a landmark in modern science fiction. In this movie, Dominic "Dom" Cobb is a skilled corporate thief who steals corporate secrets through dream-sharing technology. He became an international fugitive due to his illegal expertise and was cut off from his children. He was offered a chance at redemption with one condition: in order to clear his criminal records, Cobb must perform an inception, planting an idea in the subconscious of Robert Fischer, convincing him to dissolve his father's company.

What makes the movie succeed is that it works on two completely different levels simultaneously: a premier action heist expertly performing action sequences full of gunfights, car chases, and mind-bending physics, and it acts as a metaphor for cinema itself, being an allegory for filmmaking. In the movie, Nolan prioritizes physical sets over heavy computer generated imagery.

In terms of pacing, Nolan spent considerable time building the rules of dream-sharing, recruiting the crew, and establishing the heist's stakes, but after all the buildup in the first half, the second half is fast and relentless.

When it comes to character development, it is uneven, probably because the movie prioritizes high-concept heist structure. An example is Dom Cobb, who possesses a complete, tragically compelling arc. His job wasn't just about finishing a job but also confronting his guilt and forgiving himself. Robert Fischer, who transforms from an insecure son seeking approval to a man finding closure, makes the target of the heist feel human.

Their performances; like that of Cobb, who delivered an intense performance balancing professional coldness with desperate emotional trauma, and Mal, terrifying yet heartbreaking, turning a projection of grief into an unpredictable threat are exceptional. The settings for the movie are tactical, using practical, tactile locations to ground fantastic concepts in reality.

However, the movie has both strengths and weaknesses, but overall, I commend the directing work that Nolan put into the movie. Here's where the movie gains strength: Nolan's masterful editing and directing weave four timelines together without losing the viewer's orientation. The music in the movie is central to the film's identity. For those who love movies, when music hits just right, the movie gives a different vibe altogether, and that's certainly true of this film. Finally, the movie has original world-building, unlike certain movies that rely on existing books.

Weaknesses

Certain people may not like the first half of the movie, where there is heavy exposition explaining rules and terminology. Also, in the crew that Cobb formed, we knew nothing about certain individuals outside their job. Aside from this, the movie is worth watching. Viewers may be left questioning the boundary between dream and reality.
