Wonka: magic, music and chocolates, lots of chocolates. [ENG+ESP]

Greetings to all lovers of good movies, magic, and chocolates. Today I would like to share my humble opinion about the movie Wonka. First of all, I would like to clarify that the story of the movie is completely different from the story seen in the two previous movies, where 5 children were invited to the chocolate factory and horrible things happened to them. This time the story tells the adventures of a young Willy Wonka in extreme poverty who wants to achieve his dream of being the best chocolate maker but has to face a chocolate cartel that eliminates the competition (for not giving more pins). Unlike the others, this one is a musical (it is important to keep this in mind), and the songs with their respective choreographies are a real visual spectacle. Timothée Chalamet as Willy Wonka is incredible, but that doesn't take away from the fact that the rest of the actors were excellent in their respective roles.

Un saludo, tengan todos los amantes del buen cine, la magia y los chocolates. El día de hoy les quiero compartir mi humilde opinión acerca de la película Wonka. Primeramente, quisiera aclarar que la historia de la película se aleja completamente de la historia vista en las dos anteriores, donde 5 niños eran invitados a la fábrica de chocolate y les sucedían cosas horribles. En esta ocasión la historia narra las peripecias de un joven Willy Wonka en pobreza extrema que quiere lograr su sueño de ser el mejor chocolatero, pero tiene que enfrentarse a un cártel chocolatero que elimina a la competencia (por no dar más espóileres). Y a diferencia de las otras, esta es un musical (es importante tener esto en cuenta), y las canciones con sus respectivas coreografías son un verdadero espectáculo visual. Timothée Chalamet como Willy Wonka es increíble, pero eso no quita que el resto de actores fueran de excelencia a la hora de interpretar sus respectivos papeles.

So, several years after Gene Wilder brought Willy Wonka to the big screen for the first time and after Johnny Depp played him, the beloved chocolatier returned to tell the story of his beginnings before creating the chocolate factory. The film tells a charming story that manages to keep the essence of the 1971 film and update it differently, but without losing its essence. It presents us with an innocent and charming Willy Wonka who has the charisma and eccentricity that characterizes the character so much. The film shows Willy as a kind of magician and that is what he has always been since he first appeared in Roald Dahl's book or the original film. Without a doubt, the actor manages to maintain the eccentricity of the character. Hugh Grant embodies the first Oompa-Loompa that Willy met and it is great the way he brings this peculiar character to life, making him appealing.

Entonces tenemos que varios años después de que Gene Wilder trajera a Willy Wonka por primera vez a la gran pantalla y después de que Johnny Depp lo encarnara, ahora el querido chocolatero regresa para narrar sus inicios antes de crear la fábrica de chocolate. La película narra una historia encantadora que logra mantener la esencia de la película de 1971 y actualizarla de una manera diferente, pero sin llegar a perder su esencia. Nos presenta un Willy Wonka inocente y encantador que tiene ese carisma y excentricidad que tanto caracteriza al personaje. La película muestra a Willy como una especie de mago y eso es lo que siempre ha sido desde que apareció por primera vez en el libro de Roald Dahl o en la película original. Sin duda, el actor logra mantener la excentricidad del personaje. Hugh Grant encarna el primer Oompa-Loompa que Willy conoció y es estupenda la forma en la que le da vida a este peculiar personaje, volviéndolo llamativo.

Even though the original movie used real actors of short stature and here they used CGI, they managed to keep the look and quirkiness of the Oompa-Loompa intact. The musical numbers in the film are a work of art and have the feel of the original film's soundtrack, making the musical scenes masterful. It is quite appreciated that some parts of the original soundtrack were used as well. The performances, the production, the special effects, literally everything in this film, is of good quality, respecting the vision of the source and making it a successor of Dahl's work by perfectly capturing the magic of it.

A pesar de que en la película original se usaron actores reales de baja estatura y aquí usaron CGI, lograron mantener la apariencia y peculiaridad del Oompa-Loompa intacta. Los números musicales de la película son una obra de arte y tienen el aire de la banda sonora de la película original, haciendo que las escenas musicales sean magistrales. Se aprecia bastante que se usara también algunas partes de la banda sonora original. Las actuaciones, la producción, los efectos especiales, literalmente todo en esta película, es de buena calidad, logrando respetar la visión de la fuente original y volviéndola una sucesora de la obra de Dahl por plasmar a la perfección la magia de esta.

Unfortunately, not everything is good and, therefore, it must be said that the script gets lost in very small adventures. Why not imagine a Wonka traveling the world in search of, for example: 7 of the rarest and most unique ingredients to create his best chocolate? Or a visionary Wonka ahead of his time, as if he were the Steve Jobs of chocolate? Instead, they create a movie whose synopsis is "Wonka signs an abusive contract and let's see how he gets out of it".

Por desgracia, no todo es bueno y, por tanto, hay que decir que el guion se pierde en peripecias muy pequeñas. ¿Por qué no imaginar a un Wonka recorriendo el mundo en busca de los, por ejemplo: 7 ingredientes más raros y únicos con el objetivo de crear su mejor chocolate? Y que encontrase por el camino a sus compañeros, para llegar al final al punto de partida con la misma moraleja de la película ¿O a un Wonka visionario adelantado a su tiempo, como si del Steve Jobs del chocolate se tratase? En lugar de eso, crean una película cuya sinopsis es “Wonka firma un contrato abusivo y a ver cómo se libra de este”.

In short, it is a "Christmas" story that is practically nothing like the previous versions. It is watchable, as the film is aimed at a child audience (keep this in mind) but if you still retain your child essence you will like it. It is a very well-made movie and in this violent and dehumanized world, those spaces to immerse yourself in a fantasy time are valued, with musicals, excellent choreography, very good performances, and a message to never stop dreaming.

Now, do I recommend it or not? The answer depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a movie to pass the time I recommend it, but keep in mind that maybe many will not stand the songs, if the movie catches your attention also see it, but if you are looking for a great movie I warn you that maybe you will not find it.

En resumen, es una historia “navideña” que prácticamente no se parece en nada a las anteriores versiones. Se deja ver, ya que la película está dirigida al público infantil (tener en cuenta esto) pero si todavía conservas tu esencia de niño te va a gustar. Es una película muy bien hecha y en este mundo tan violento y deshumanizado, se valoran esos espacios para sumergirse en un tiempo de fantasía, con musicales, excelentes coreografías, muy buenas actuaciones y un mensaje para nunca dejar de soñar.

¿Ahora, la recomiendo o no? La respuesta es depende lo que busques. Si buscas una película para pasar el rato la recomiendo, pero tengan en cuenta que a lo mejor muchos no van a soportar las canciones, si la película les llama la atención también véanla, pero si buscan un peliculón les advierto que quizás no lo van a encontrar.
