I love the versatility of Korean dramas. From love to fantasy, to action/thriller, to horror.
Sweet Home K-drama is an intense dark thriller. The storyline revolves around the residents of an apartment who strangely start turning into gruesome and hideous monsters. Everyone thrown into a state of confusion must find a way to survive. This movie centers on the power of unity, strength and courage. This series is divided into 3 adrenaline-pumping seasons.

Plot Overview:

The first scene opened on a teenager who feels defeated in life and is suicidal, after a tragic accident takes the lives of members of his family. This teenager is played by Song Kang, who portrayed the character of Cha Hyun-soo. His decision to commit suicide was interrupted by screams from the apartment he just parked into—Green Home Apartment. A monstrous outbreak had begun with people infected with this virus slowly turning into monsters, which embodied their deepest desires or regrets. Panic and confusion was seen on the faces of the residents of the Apartment.
Another scene opened with the city up in flames, streets so empty and full of monsters and infectees in hiding. Once infected by this virus, they were caused to transform into monstrous creatures. This virus spread so fast and made them aggressive, violent, and deformed monsters.

With this development, everyone teamed up to ensure the safety of one another, with the leader Lee Do-hyun who portrayed the character of Lee Eun-Hyuk. Lee Eun-Hyuk was the leader of the survivors of Green Apartment residents who selflessly prioritized their safety. People started getting infected and became grotesque monsters. The residents/survivors and the leader, while together in their hiding; set up instruments and all to protect themselves from harm. Although anyone who was infected tried resisting the virus with the will to survive.

As days which looked like centuries passed by, people started loosing their lives more and more, to this unfortunate incident. Food became scarce, people became more selfish with a burning will to survive.

Season 1 closed with the very few survivors of Green Home taken to a safer place, under military supervision in exchange for Cha Hyun-Soo who was already an infectee.
Season 1 ended on a bitter note—Eun-Hyuk(the leader) discovered he was an infectee, he disappeared promising his sister(Lee Eun-yu) he would return but never did. He did this to prevent harming the survivors.

Seo Yi-kyung who starred as Lee Si-yong lost her fiancé. Seo Yi-kyeong who was a firefighter before this incident lost her fiancé to this unimaginable incident(her fiancé had turned into a monster). Although heartbroken, she emerged a survivor.

Season 2 Plot Overview:

The season 2 expands from the horror from season 1. In this season, focus was moved from the smaller space of Green Home Apartment to a wider world with more people getting infected with each passing day, and killed. More notable characters were added in season 2 making the movie series even more intriguing and fascinating.

There was of course an antagonist in this drama who used his monstrous powers for his personal gain. He was an infectee also; but a special infectee. In this K-drama, Special Infectees referred to Neo-humans who do not succumb completely to the virus infection. You could say they are half-humans, half-monsters that used their power for either protection or destruction.

Season 3 Overview:
This series continued from the happenings of season 2 which entailed battles fought for survival admist the epidemic.
Eun-Hyuk also made a come-back as a Neo-human in season 3. He alongside Cha Hyun-soo teamed up to eradicate the monsters and unrepentant Neo humans.

This series ended with Neo humans coexisting with humans after eradicating the monsters and unrepentant/wicked Neo-humans.

Character review/Rating:

Song Kang delivered his role richly which I commend him for. I admire him a lot.

Lee Do-Hyun left me awed, he's so versatile. He also starred in Korean dramas like "The glory” and others. Any movie he stars in is always a blockbuster.

I admired deeply the courage and strength of Seo Yi-Kyeong and Lee Eun-Yu who starred as Lee Si-young Seo Go Min-si respectively.

Critics:
Although the series was horror-thriller based, i felt it would have been more spicy if romance was added to it(between Hyun-soo and Eun-Yu), because of how deeply Eun-Yu cared for him.
Also the end of the series(season 3) felt somewhat vague, it wasn’t concluded as well as i expected it to, it lacked clarity.

It was very scary. Imagine watching a monster jump out from nowhere or talking to someone and he suddenly turns into a monster right there and then.
My adrenaline raced throughout "Sweet Home" series.

I would definitely recommend it and would be giving it a 4.5 over 5 rating. It's available to watch on Netflix, with subtitles.
