"The Housemaid" (2025): "Un thriller que vale la pena". Opinión (es/en)

Hoy les vengo a hablar sobre una película que vi y debo decir, que me impresionó, a tal grado de motivarme a hacerles esta publicación. Se trata de "The Housemaid", una adaptación del género thriller erótico-psicológico de la novela de Freida McFaddendel,
Estrenada el año pasado y dirigida por Paul Feig, la película llega a los cines con una frescura digna de rendir homenaje, a aquellos thrillers que tanto disfrutamos en los años 90. La trama de "The Housemaid", sin aires de querer reinventar el género, nos presenta un buen guion. Creo que bastante aceptable, en donde la ocurrencia de giros inesperados es el enganche final para el espectador.
La película no aburre, a pesar de sus más de dos horas de duración; nos mantiene enganchados con el desarrollo de los personajes. La historia sigue a tres protagonistas claves: Millie Calloway (una joven recién salida de prisión, que, necesitada de empleo, acepta un trabajo como empleada doméstica en casa de la familia Winchester).
Personaje que encarnó la hermosa y talentosa Sydney Sweeney, actriz que, desde su actuación en la serie Euphoria, ha llamado la atención de los reflectores. Aunque no tanto por su talento en la actuación, más que demostrada en papeles más exigentes. Pero la joven actriz ha sido blanco mediático de críticas por su apariencia física, lo que es una lástima, que su buen parecido opaque su trabajo.
Le sigue el ritmo Nina Winchester (interpretada por otra bella actriz, Amanda Seyfried), en su papel de la esposa perfecta, al menos en apariencia. Completa el casting Andrew (Brandon Sklenar), quien interpreta al marido atractivo, pero distante; completan así el trío central de la trama.
Lo que comienza como una gran oportunidad para Millie de salir adelante luego de su salida de prisión, se convierte en su peor pesadilla; aunque no se equivoquen por su dulzura aparente, es una chica ruda. En la película, se entremezclan los secretos de familia, seducciones eróticas y celos enfermizos, al mejor estilo de las telenovelas que estamos acostumbrados.
El gran atractivo de la película, a mi entender, está dado precisamente por la calidad de sus actuaciones principales y su final fulminante. Amanda Seyfried y Sydney Sweeney se roban cada escena, logrando una química entre ambas que es eléctrica, tóxica y para nada sobreactuada. Por otro lado, hay que destacar la calidad visual lograda en la cinta, ya que luce impecable el uso de la fotografía en la mansión Winchester.
Si gustas del género thriller, que te mantenga pegado al asiento con actuaciones potentes, erotismo-psicológico, giros inesperados y entretenida, "The Housemaid" cumplirá con creces tus expectativas. Como último comentario te diré que vale la pena cada minuto de sus más de dos horas de duración. Nos leemos en una próxima cita con el cine y el entrenamiento.

This character is played by the beautiful and talented Sydney Sweeney, an actress who, since her performance in the series Euphoria, has been in the spotlight. Although not so much for her acting talent, which has been more than proven in slightly more demanding roles. The young actress has been the target of media criticism for her physical appearance, which is a shame, as her good looks overshadow her work.
She is followed by Nina Winchester (played by another beautiful actress, Amanda Seyfried), in her role as the perfect wife, at least in appearance. And finally, the cast is completed by Andrew (Brandon Sklenar), who plays the attractive but distant husband, thus completing the central trio of the plot.
What begins as a great opportunity for Millie to get ahead after her release from prison turns into her worst nightmare; don't be fooled by her apparent sweetness, she is a tough girl. The film intertwines family secrets, seduction and unhealthy jealousy, in the best style of the soap operas we are used to seeing.
The great appeal of the film, in my opinion, lies precisely in the quality of its main performances and its explosive ending. Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney steal every scene, achieving a chemistry between them that is electric, toxic and not at all overacted. On the other hand, the visual quality of the film is noteworthy, as the use of photography in the Winchester mansion is impeccable.
If you like the thriller genre, which keeps you glued to your seat with powerful performances, psychological eroticism, unexpected twists and turns, and entertainment, "The Housemaid" will more than meet your expectations.
