Hace unos días un amigo me hablo que estaba viendo una serie que le estaba gustando mucho y que la misma le hacía recordar un poco a la seria Adolescencia pero que está quizás pueda que tenga un diferente desenlace y bueno tuve que preguntar el nombre antes de que me dijera toda la serie ja ja ja… La serie lleva por nombre ¨Defending Jacob¨ y no es de este año, esta producción fue estrenada en el 2020 y quizás sea de esas joyas que no todos logran encontrar. Tal como me pasó a mí que no la pude ver en su momento debido a que no estaba en mis radares pero siempre llega el momento indicado.

A few days ago, a friend told me he was watching a series he really liked, and that it reminded him a bit of the show Adolescence, but that this one might have a different ending. Well, I had to ask him the name before he spoiled the whole series for me, ha ha ha… The series is called “Defending Jacob,” and it’s not from this year—it premiered in 2020 and might be one of those hidden gems that not everyone manages to find. Just like me—I didn’t get to watch it at the time because it wasn’t on my radar, but the right moment always comes.

La serie cuenta con 8 capítulos que, o sea, cada uno está lleno de emoción, suspenso, intriga y puede que al principio percibas una leve lentitud de la serie pero créanme, cada desenlace vale la pena pues siempre estamos en un presente incierto. Mi admiración para cada uno de los actores pues no cabe duda que todos tuvieron un papel importante y que supieron asumirlos con valor. La verdad es que este thriller judicial y psicológico me ha encantado quizás es que me ha resultado fácil meterme en la mente de los protagonistas.

The series has eight episodes, each one packed with emotion, suspense, and intrigue. You might find the pace a bit slow at first, but trust me, every twist is worth it because we’re always in an uncertain present. I admire every single actor—there’s no doubt that they all played important roles and handled them with courage. The truth is, I absolutely loved this legal and psychological thriller; maybe it’s just that I found it easy to get inside the protagonists’ heads.

Defendiendo a Jacob es una serie que explora el impacto emocional y moral de una acusación de asesinato contra un adolescente. Aquí nos encontramos a mismísimo Chris Evans actuando como a un padre que lucha por proteger a su hijo mientras la justicia y las opiniones públicas empiezan a causar daño, ansiedad, encierro. La trama profundiza en temas como los límites del sistema judicial y las tensiones familiares bajo presión y es que este último en muchísimas ocasiones no le prestamos la atención necesaria. La serie tiene unos giros narrativos que a mí parecer y criterio, están bastantes buenos y complementados con los personajes se crea una perfecta atmosfera de inquietud y desesperación. Pero hubo algo que me dejó bastante pensativo pues la serie cuestiona si la verdad siempre prevalece en los juicios.

The plot delves into themes such as the limits of the judicial system and family tensions under pressure—issues we often fail to give the attention they deserve. The series has some narrative twists that, in my opinion, are quite good, and when combined with the characters, they create a perfect atmosphere of unease and desperation. But there was something that left me quite pensive, as the series questions whether the truth always prevails in trials.

No puedo adelantar nada pues no es mi intención pero otra de las cosas que me gustó de la serie fue que en sus dos últimos capítulos nos dio muchas ideas, muchos finales, muchas preguntas y respuestas. Pero al final, ninguna de nuestras ideas tuvo ese desenlace. Pero los dejo acá con esta duda para que puedan ustedes si no la han visto ir a verla y poder compartir las diferentes opiniones y si ya la has visto ¿Qué te pareció a ti?

I can’t give anything away—that’s not my intention—but another thing I liked about the series was that in its last two episodes, it left us with lots of ideas, lots of possible endings, and lots of questions and answers. But in the end, none of our ideas turned out that way.
