🎬My opinion about Lilo & Stitch (live action)🌺✨ [ENG-ESP]

Of course I was looking forward to this live action with excitement✨ I grew up watching Disney movies, those little girls who would take an early bath just to sit down with dinner to watch whatever was on the channel. Lilo & Stitch was one of those stories that stuck in my heart from the first time I saw it, how could I not love that 626 experiment so chaotic and adorable!🩵

So when they announced the live action version I was excited, although I'm not going to lie: I was a little scared, because the original is already perfect as it is. The most important thing was that they respected its essence. However, I loved Stitch's design and I felt that the choice of cast was right. And, moreover, I was motivated by the nostalgia of reconnecting with my inner child, the one who still believes in the power of ohana✨

Lilo & Stitch fue una de esas historias que se me quedó en el corazón desde la primera vez que la ví, ¡cómo no amar a ese experimento 626 tan caótico y adorable!🩵

Así que cuando anunciaron la versión en live action estuve emocionada, aunque no les voy a mentir: tenía un poquito de miedo, porque la original ya es perfecta tal como es. Lo más importante era que respetaran su esencia. Sin embargo, me encantó el diseño de Stitch y sentí que la elección del cast fue acertada. Y, además, estaba motivada por la nostalgia de volver a conectar con mi niña interior, la que aún cree en el poder del ohana✨

Lilo & Stitch tells the story of a Hawaiian girl named Lilo, who lives with her older sister, Nani, after the loss of their parents. One day, Lilo adopts Stitch, a strange “dog” who is actually an escaped alien experiment. What starts out as utter chaos turns into an adventure about family, belonging and unconditional love. Because, as we well know, ohana means family, and family never leaves you, nor forgets you🩵.

This live action was a direct embrace to childhood. From the beginning they respected iconic scenes that made us smile and, in my case, cry a little bit. Lilo and Stitch kept all their essence: their bond, their tenderness and that adorable chaos that characterizes them. It was like watching the original movie come to life, without losing its magic🥺.

Lilo & Stitch nos cuenta la historia de una niña hawaiana llamada Lilo, que vive con su hermana mayor, Nani, luego de la pérdida de sus padres. Un día, Lilo adopta a Stitch, un extraño "perro" que en realidad es un experimento alienígena fugitivo. Lo que comienza como un caos absoluto se transforma en una aventura sobre familia, pertenencia y amor incondicional. Porque, como bien sabemos, ohana significa familia, y la familia nunca te abandona, ni te olvida🩵

Este live action fue un abrazo directo a la infancia. Desde el inicio respetaron escenas icónicas que nos hicieron sonreír y, en mi caso, también aguar los ojitos. Lilo y Stitch conservan toda su esencia: su vínculo, su ternura y ese caos adorable que los caracteriza. Fue como ver la película original tomar vida, sin perder su magia🥺

The Hawaiian setting, the landscapes and the music representative of Hawaii and Elvis Presley, make you feel part of the island spirit, just like the first time. And watching Stitch's emotional development again, his learning about family and a sense of belonging, is just beautiful. It's easy to forget that, beyond being an alien experiment, Stitch is a child learning to live.

And if we talk about characters, I can not fail to mention Nani. When I was a little girl, maybe I didn't understand her complexity, but now I admire her deeply. She didn't have all the answers, nor a manual on how to do things, but she gave her all for Lilo. Seeing her struggle through different eyes touched me deeply. And yes, I know several people disagree with the ending, but this is live action and real life is not like Disney movies. Nani was also a young girl who lost her parents, had no money and no job, and both were struggling. The sacrifice Nani made at the end is a big change, but it's realistic. She also deserves to fulfill her dreams, and she left her sister with people she both knows, who appreciate them and who could give her stability. Yes, family is "nobody gets left behind", but at no time did I feel that they abandoned each other, on the contrary, decisions were made that ensured the well being of both.

Also, in the end we observe how Nani can visit Lilo whenever she wants, so they will always be united🩷.

La ambientación hawaiana, los paisajes y la música representativa de Hawái y de Elvis Presley, hacen que te sientas parte del espíritu isleño, igual que la primera vez. Y ver nuevamente el desarrollo emocional de Stitch, su aprendizaje sobre la familia y el sentido de pertenencia, es simplemente hermoso. Es fácil olvidar que, más allá de ser un experimento alienígena, Stitch es un niño aprendiendo a vivir.

Y si de personajes hablamos, no puedo dejar de mencionar a Nani. De pequeña quizás no entendía su complejidad, pero ahora la admiro profundamente. No tenía todas las respuestas, ni un manual de cómo hacer las cosas, pero lo daba todo por Lilo. Ver su lucha con otros ojos me tocó profundamente. Y sí, sé que varias personas no están de acuerdo con el final, pero esto es un live action y la vida real no es como la películas de Disney. Nani también era una niña que perdió a sus padres, no tenía dinero ni trabajo, y ambas estaban pasando dificultades. El sacrificio que hizo Nani al final es un gran cambio, pero es realista. Ella también merece cumplir sus sueños, y dejó a su hermana con personas que ambas conocen, que las aprecian y que sí le podían dar una estabilidad. Sí, la familia "no te abandona", pero en ningún momento sentí que ellas se abandonaron, al contrario, se tomaron decisiones que aseguraban el bienestar de ambas.

Además, en el final observamos como Nani puede visitar a Lilo cuando ella quiera, así que siempre estarán unidas🩷

We know that Disney live actions come with doubts, especially when the original is already perfect. But in this case, I feel that a genuine effort was made to respect the story that marked our childhoods. Obviously, there are changes and omissions (yes, we were robbed of the glamorous Pleakley moments 🫢). Anyway, probably adapting some points was complicated (like Gantu, for example) considering that they kept a low budget compared to other Disney live actions; however, I consider that they did a good job in at least filling the space of this character.

Same with Jumba and Pleakley, who we didn't see the live action adaptation of these characters throughout the film, but it made sense that because of their advanced alien technology they had the ability to disguise themselves as humans, and it really gave more logic to the development of an adaptation. Likewise, the actors did a lovely job of humanizing these characters.

Sabemos que los live actions de Disney llegan con dudas, especialmente cuando la original ya es perfecta. Pero en este caso, siento que se hizo un esfuerzo genuino por respetar la historia que marcó nuestras infancias. Obviamente, hay cambios y omisiones (sí, nos robaron los momentos de Pleakley modo glamuroso🫢). De igual, probablemente adaptar algunos puntos era complicado (como Gantu, por ejemplo) teniendo en cuenta que mantenían un bajo presupuesto en comparación a otros live actions de Disney; sin embargo, considero que hicieron un buen trabajo en al menos rellenar el espacio de este personaje.

Lo mismo con Jumba y Pleakley, que no vimos la adaptación live action de estos personajes durante toda la película, pero tuvo sentido que debido a su tecnología alienígena avanzada tuvieran la posibilidad de disfrazarse de humanos, y realmente eso le daba más lógica al desarrollo de una adaptación. De igual manera, los actores hicieron un trabajo encantador humanizando a estos personajes.

In fact, I think what I loved most was seeing the story again from an adult's point of view. When we were kids, we saw a fun, chaotic alien story. Now, everything has a deeper meaning, such as seeing a being created to destroy who, little by little, understands what it means to belong, to love, to care, and to be cared for.

The film reminds us that family is not always perfect, nor conventional, but it can be that safe place we choose to build every day. That sometimes it's not about being strong, but about staying close, even when everything is falling apart. And that message is still there, vibrant and honest🌸

De hecho, creo que lo que más amé fue volver a ver la historia desde una mirada adulta. De pequeños, veíamos una historia divertida y caótica de extraterrestres. Ahora, todo tiene un sentido más profundo, como por ejemplo, ver a un ser creado para destruir que, poco a poco, va entendiendo lo que significa pertenecer, amar, cuidar, y ser cuidado.

La película nos recuerda que la familia no siempre es perfecta, ni convencional, pero puede ser ese lugar seguro que elegimos construir cada día. Que a veces no se trata de ser fuerte, sino de mantenerse cerca, aunque todo se esté cayendo a pedazos. Y ese mensaje sigue presente, vibrante y honesto🌸

If you grew up with Lilo & Stitch, this live action is a direct invitation to reconnect with your childhood and see the story with new eyes. A movie that mixes adventure, tenderness, humor and a lot of humanity. It's not just about aliens and Hawaiian mayhem, it's about learning to love and belong. It's worth seeing for its affection for the original work, for its renewed sensibility and because, in the end, we all need to remember that ohana means family... and family never leaves you, nor forgets you🌺✨
