Review: Five Nights at Freddy's🎥💥🔥 || Reseña: Cinco noches en Freddy's🎥💥🔥

A week ago I went to the movies to see Five Nights at Freddy's, if you don't already know, this movie is inspired by a series of horror video games based on the survival of a security guard in an old pizzeria, home of some old mechanical dolls that in their good times offered joy to a lot of kids and their families... until they started murdering.

My sister knows the iceberg that this story is in, which goes beyond some killer animatronics, that's why she insisted me to accompany her, besides, I admit that I have also played the first version of this video game and I have seen different videos on Youtube about the others, so yes, I was very curious about the movie, because although it may not seem like it I am a fan of this film genre.

Hace una semana fui al cine a ver Five Nights at Freddy’s, si aún no lo sabes, esta película está inspirada en una serie de videojuegos de terror basados en la supervivencia de un guardia de seguridad en una vieja pizzería, hogar de unos antiguos muñecos mecánicos que en sus buenos tiempos ofrecieron alegrías a un montón de niños y a sus familias… hasta que comenzaron a asesinar.

Mi hermana conoce el iceberg en que se encuentra esta historia, que va más allá de unos animatrónicos asesinos, por eso me insistió en que la acompañara, además, admito que también he jugado la primera versión de este videojuego y he visto diferentes vídeos en Youtube sobre los demás, así que sí, me causaba mucha curiosidad la película, porque aunque no lo parezca soy fan de este género cinematográfico.

As I mentioned, the story begins when a security guard starts working nights at Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria. It looks like a simple position, an old place that has not been demolished or sold because the owner is fond of it, you just have to pay attention that no vandals come in during the night, and in the morning you go back home. But of course, there is something they don't tell the employees. Inside the pizzeria there are some interesting (and terrifying) mechanical dolls, known as Freddy, Foxy, Bonnie and Chica, who during the night "come to life" and show an aggressive behavior against human presence.

Mike Schmidt is the main character, a young man who has gone through a traumatic event during his childhood, and still has nightmares about what happened that haunt him at night. He is just trying to regain balance in his life, and give a better life to his younger sister, Abby, so he accepts the job without asking many questions, without having the slightest idea of what could happen in that place.

Como mencioné, la historia comienza cuando un guardia de seguridad comienza a trabajar por las noches en la Pizzería Freddy Fazbear’s. Luce como un cargo sencillo, un viejo local que no ha sido demolido o vendido porque el dueño le tiene cariño, solo hay que prestar atención que no entren vándalos durante la noche, y en la mañana vuelves a tu casa. Pero claro, hay algo que no les cuentan a los empleados. Dentro de la pizzería se encuentran unos interesantes (y aterradores) muñecos mecánicos, conocidos como: Freddy, Foxy, Bonnie y Chica, quienes durante la noche “cobran vida” y muestran un comportamiento agresivo contra la presencia humana.

Mike Schmidt es el protagonista, un joven que ha atravesado un evento traumático durante su infancia, y que aún tiene pesadillas sobre lo ocurrido que lo atormentan en las noches. Él solo está intentando recuperar el equilibrio de su vida, y darle una mejor vida a su hermana menor, Abby, por eso acepta el trabajo sin hacer muchas preguntas, sin tener una mínima idea de lo que podría pasar en ese lugar.

It's not the first movie inspired by a video game, and the expectations around this story were high. Yes, they respected the main and characteristic points of the original plot, creating a movie that most fans loved for the presence of those Easter eggs, I assure you that my sister went crazy in many scenes. The format of being in the security booth, watching the security camera screens, the low lighting, the way the story deepens with each night; the glimpse we get of what is going on outside the pizzeria, Mike's life, and even the original plot twists of the movie are bonus points.

But what about those of us who are not completely familiar with the story? We may not understand all the references, however, that doesn't imply that we can't connect with the movie, even if you don't know anything about video games you can stay entertained with the movie, since it's interesting what the plot presents us with.

No es la primera película inspirada en un videojuego, y las expectativas en torno a esta historia eran altas. Sí, respetaron los puntos principales y característicos de la trama original, creando una película que la mayoría de los fans amaron por la presencia de esos easter eggs, les aseguro que mi hermana enloqueció en muchas escenas. El formato de estar en la cabina de seguridad, observando las pantallas de la cámara de la seguridad, poca iluminación, la manera en que con cada noche se va profundizando la historia; el vistazo que nos dan sobre lo que sucede en el exterior de la pizzería, sobre la vida de Mike, e incluso los giros de trama originales de la película son puntos extras.

Pero, ¿qué pasa con los que no estamos completamente familiarizados con la historia? Puede que no entendamos todas las referencias, sin embargo, eso no implica que no podamos conectar con la película, incluso si no sabes nada acerca de los videojuegos puedes quedarte entretenido con la película, dado que es interesante lo que nos presenta la trama.

I like horror movies, those that have a dramatic and deep story, that scare you, but you can't look away from what you are watching, that gives you the need to know more and more about why everything is happening. That relationship between reality and the "beyond".

And they sell this movie with the category of horror, however, it didn't cause me the fear it promised. Yes, there are several scares, there is suspense and bloodthirstiness present, but it wasn't the great thing I expected; maybe I went into the theater with high expectations, or maybe it was all a marketing ploy. The truth is that it's not scary, and you can confirm that by the age range of the movie, it wasn't to expect big scares.

A mí me gustan las películas de terror, esas que tienen una historia dramática y profunda, que te asustan, pero no puedes apartar la vista de lo que estás viendo, que te da la necesidad de saber más y más del porqué todo está sucediendo. Esa relación entre la realidad y el “más allá”.

Y te venden esta película con la categoría de terror, no obstante, no me causó ese miedo que prometía. Sí, hay varios sustos, está el suspenso y lo sanguinario presente, pero tampoco fue la gran cosa que esperaba; quizás entré a la sala del cine con muchas expectativas, o quizás todo fue jugada del marketing. La verdad es que no es terrorífica, y puedes confirmar eso por el rango de edad de la película, no era para esperar grandes sustos.

What doesn't help either is the way they explained the background of the animatronics, I feel they softened the facts of the original story, and at the end instead of causing fear you end up even sympathizing with them. I swear I felt really sorry for their stories, in the last half hour there were no scares, you wanted to see them because you felt bad for them. They could have given it a darker, scarier touch, they're more than just machines killing people, they're those souls involved in the possession of the animatronics, how they died and who did that to them, what they've become and why they can't rest in peace, it's * SPOILER * serial killings of innocent children, it's something very devastating, and I guess to make it suitable for almost any audience they had to lower the intensity of the plot, but by doing that they just took weight away from that dark pit that is FNAF.

The course of the story was slow for me, we were presented with many details of Mike's life, and they took a long time to give us the main idea, what we were all waiting for; because, after all, Mike Schmidt is just a pawn in this game, not the main character. And unlike the first part of the movie, already in the last hour everything happens very fast, that's where the horror movie potential was, that's where I was going to cover my face because I couldn't handle the feeling, but no, it didn't happen, because the unraveling, the big mystery, was quickly solved, and the thrill is fleeting.

It's a good movie overall, but it's not a great horror movie. Even video games are scarier.

Lo que tampoco ayuda es la manera en que explicaron el trasfondo de los animatrónicos, siento que suavizaron los hechos de la historia original, y al final en vez de causar miedo terminas incluso simpatizando con ellos. Les juro que me dio una lástima enorme sus historias, en la última media hora no había sustos, querías verlos porque te sentías mal por ellos. Pudieron darle un toque más oscuro, más aterrador, son más que solo unas máquinas asesinando gente, son esas almas involucradas en la posesión de los animatrónicos, el cómo murieron y quién les hizo eso, en lo que se han convertido y por qué no pueden descansar en paz, es * SPOILER * asesinatos en serie de niños inocentes, es algo muy devastador, y supongo que para hacerla apta a casi cualquier público tuvieron que bajarle la intensidad a la trama, pero al hacer eso solo le quitaron peso a ese pozo oscuro que es FNAF.

El transcurso de la historia se me hizo lento, nos presentaron muchos detalles de la vida de Mike, y se tardaron en darnos la idea principal, lo que todos estábamos esperando; porque, después de todo, Mike Schmidt es solo un peón de este juego, no el protagonista. Y a diferencia de la primera parte de la película, ya en la última hora todo transcurre muy rápido, ahí es donde estaba el potencial de película de terror, ahí es donde me iba a tapar la cara porque no podía con la sensación, pero no, no pasó, porque el desenvolvimiento, el gran misterio, se resolvió rápidamente, y la emoción es fugaz.

Es una película buena en general, más no es una gran película de terror. Incluso los videojuegos dan más miedo.

The most important part of the story are the animatronics, the robots inspired by animals, created with the intention of entertaining the customers in the pizzeria. The design they were given in the movie was wonderful, you can perceive every detail we see in the video games and even better, they are terrifying, they are clumsy, you can see how they have deteriorated over time. They impress you when you see them, but at the same time they scare you. Despite being machines, you can perceive their emotions, the differences in their behavior, they're not always hostile and that generates surprise in the audience (at least in me), since in video games I had always seen them malevolent.

I think they were the best bet in the movie, they look incredibly real, from the beginning you expect to see them, and you are in expectation in each of their scenes. The specific details, for example, the change of their eye color depending on their behavior, or their aggressive attitudes, that intelligence when attacking, all that and more tell us that the production gave a lot of love to Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy.

La parte más importante de la historia son los animatrónicos, los robots inspirados en animales, creados con la intención de entretener a los clientes en la pizzería. El diseño que les dieron en la película fue maravilloso, se percibe cada detalle que vemos en los videojuegos e incluso mejor, son aterradores, son torpes, se ve como se han ido deteriorando a través del tiempo. Te impresionan cuando los ves, pero al mismo tiempo te dan miedo. A pesar de ser unas máquinas, puedes percibir sus emociones, la diferencias en sus comportamientos, no siempre son hostiles y eso genera sorpresa en el público (al menos en mí), dado que en los videojuegos siempre los había visto malévolos.

Creo que fueron la mejor apuesta en la película, se ven increíblemente reales, desde el principio esperas verlos y estás en la expectativa en cada una de sus escenas. Los detalles específicos, como por ejemplo, el cambio del color de sus ojos dependiendo de su comportamiento, o sus actitudes agresivas, esa inteligencia al momento de atacar, todo eso y más nos dicen que la producción le brindaron mucho cariño a Freddy, Bonnie, Chica y Foxy.

However, there is one thing I did like, the learning behind Mike's character. A young man completely broken by life's perverse situations, a fact that is unfortunately very real and common in our unfortunate population, and you can feel his pain and trauma. I read comments that they found his reactions exaggerated or that it bothered so much focus on his trauma, but I really understand, what he went through is not easy at all, that feeling of guilt, of loss, is very real and relevant, and Josh Hutcherson is a great actor who shows us all these emotions.

That teaching that no matter how broken we are, how low we are, there will always be an important reason to continue with our lives, and we must hold on to that, that as long as we are still breathing we must take every moment to honor those who are no longer with us, keep fighting for them, and for ourselves.

Sin embargo, hay algo que sí me gustó, el aprendizaje detrás del personaje de Mike. Un joven completamente roto por situaciones perversas de la vida, un hecho que lamentablemente es muy real y común en nuestra desgraciada población, y puedes sentir su dolor y su trauma. Leí comentarios de que les parecía exagerada sus reacciones o que molestaba tanto enfoque en su trauma, pero realmente lo comprendo, lo que él pasó no es nada fácil, ese sentimiento de culpa, de pérdida, es muy real y relevante, y Josh Hutcherson es un gran actor que nos demuestra todas estas emociones.

Esa enseñanza de que sin importar cuán roto estemos, qué tan abajo nos encontremos, siempre habrá un motivo importante para continuar con nuestras vidas y debemos aferrarnos a eso, que mientras sigamos respirando debemos aprovechar cada momento para honrar a quiénes ya no están con nosotros, seguir luchando por ellos, y por nosotros mismos.

But, honestly, you should see the movie to create your own opinion. If you're a fan of video games you'll love it, you'll enjoy the details and winks to the story, and if you're not a fan, you'll also enjoy it, despite what I said it's entertaining, you can be having a tired day and watch it to clear your mind and focus on something else. It's not a bad movie, I just expected more.

They have material to make a saga of movies, nothing is confirmed, but they have the card on the table, the plot is very broad to produce future works, and in the given case that they do, I hope they have a more terrifying touch.

Pero, sinceramente, deberían ver la película para crear su propia opinión. Si eres fan de los videojuegos te va a encantar, vas a disfrutar los detalles y guiños a la historia, y si no eres fan, también la vas a disfrutar, a pesar de lo que les comenté es entretenida, puedes estar teniendo un día cansado y verla para despejar la mente y enfocarte en otra cosa. No es una mala película, simplemente se esperaba más.

Tienen material para sacar una saga de películas, nada está confirmado, pero tienen la carta sobre la mesa, la trama es muy amplia para producir futuros trabajos, y en el dado caso que lo hagan, espero que tengan un toque más terrorífico.
