This film is an adaptation of Freida McFadden's novel. I didn't have high expectations. I had read very positive reviews and knew that the book is famous and beloved, but I always keep a certain distance from literary adaptations. It's something personal: I find it hard to trust that a story that works on paper will have the same impact on screen.

Even so, I'm at a point where I want to consume more psychological thrillers, explore more stories that play with the mind. So I went in eager, but without high expectations. And honestly... I went in expecting little and came out having everything.

From the very first minutes, you sense that something is not right. There is a strange vibe, a latent mystery, secrets that you can sense even though no one says them out loud. It starts by arousing your curiosity and ends up completely captivating you. It's not a movie that slowly builds momentum: it hooks you from the start and doesn't let go.

Aun así, estoy en un momento en el que quiero consumir más thriller psicológico, explorar más historias que jueguen con la mente. Así que entré con ganas, pero sin expectativas altas. Y sinceramente… entré esperando poco y salí teniéndolo todo.

Desde los primeros minutos se siente que algo no está bien. Hay una vibra extraña, un misterio latente, secretos que se perciben aunque nadie los diga en voz alta. Comienza despertando curiosidad y termina atrapándote por completo. No es una película que se enciende lentamente: te engancha desde el inicio y no te suelta.

A young woman is desperately looking for a job. She finds work as a maid in a luxurious house, but soon discovers that not everything is as it seems. The family's apparent kindness hides dangerous secrets, and the tension between the maid and the wife unleashes a psychological game full of mystery, manipulation, and unexpected twists that keep the viewer on the edge of their seat.

The relationship between the maid, Millie, and the wife, Nina, feels strange from the start. There is a kindness that doesn't quite feel genuine. Something doesn't fit. It's not an explicit discomfort, it's more of a subtle feeling that you're being manipulated. I didn't suspect anyone in particular at first, but I did know that something wasn't right.

And yes, my psychologist's mind was probably already analyzing everything, looking for patterns. Especially when they mention certain clinical elements, which automatically set off my radar. But the interesting thing is that the movie plays with you. It makes you think you've solved the mystery... until it shows you that you were completely wrong.

Una joven está buscando, desesperadamente, empleo. Consigue trabajo como empleada doméstica en una lujosa casa, pero pronto descubre que no todo es lo que parece. La aparente amabilidad de la familia oculta secretos peligrosos, y la tensión entre empleada y esposa desata un juego psicológico lleno de misterio, manipulación y giros inesperados que mantienen al espectador al borde de la pantalla.

La relación entre la empleada, Millie, y la esposa, Nina, se siente rara desde el principio. Hay una amabilidad que no termina de sentirse genuina. Algo no encaja. No es una incomodidad explícita, es más bien esa sensación sutil de que estás siendo manipulado. No sospechaba de nadie en concreto al principio, pero sí sabía que algo no estaba en orden.

Y sí, probablemente mi mente de psicóloga ya estaba analizando todo, buscando patrones. Especialmente cuando mencionan ciertos elementos clínicos, que automáticamente activaron mi radar. Pero lo interesante es que la película juega contigo. Te hace creer que ya resolviste el misterio… hasta que te demuestra que estabas completamente equivocada.

I'm not usually a fan of her performances, but here she surprised me. I didn't feel she was weak like in other works. She convinced me as the protagonist and, above all, I empathized with her.

Her character is strong and fragile at the same time. She is a victim, yes, but she also tries to resist in a situation that clearly overwhelms her. At various points, I just thought, “Get out of there, please.” She was a scapegoat in a game that didn't belong to her. And that desperation felt real.

Her performance is simply spectacular. Uncomfortable, disturbing, but perfectly measured. It doesn't feel exaggerated; it feels precise. Every gesture, every glance, every reaction has intention.

From the very first moment, you suspect there's something about her. She effortlessly dominates the screen. Her presence sets the emotional pace of the story. And the way she embodies that psychological imbalance is believable. You believe her. That's what makes her so unsettling.

The tension between the two is the best part of the film. You can feel the power struggle, the constant manipulation, the silent discomfort. There are scenes where the energy between them is so strong that it almost becomes palpable. It's not just a narrative confrontation; it's a psychological duel.

No suelo ser fan de sus actuaciones, pero aquí me sorprendió. No la sentí floja como en otros trabajos. Me convenció como protagonista y, sobre todo, me generó empatía.

Su personaje es fuerte y frágil al mismo tiempo. Es víctima, sí, pero también intenta resistir dentro de una situación que claramente la supera. En varios momentos solo pensaba: “sal de ahí, por favor”. Fue un chivo expiatorio dentro de un juego que no le pertenecía. Y esa desesperación se sintió real.

Su actuación es simplemente espectacular. Incómoda, perturbadora, pero perfectamente medida. No se siente exagerada; se siente precisa. Cada gesto, cada mirada, cada reacción tiene intención.

The film maintains a steady build-up of tension. It has a clear introduction, a well-constructed plot, a shocking climax, and a satisfying ending. The twists are undoubtedly the best part. It begins by telling you a version of the story that you accept as truth. You think you've solved the mystery. You think you know who the villain is.

But no. Nothing is as it seems.

The film plays with appearances and your perception. It shows you that you can't trust anyone, and that what you see on the surface is rarely the whole truth. It doesn't feel long or heavy. It lasts as long as it needs to. It leaves no loose ends and never gets boring. You're always building theories, looking for clues, trying to stay ahead... and yet it still surprises you.

Furthermore, I didn't feel like it was a commercial thriller designed solely to entertain. It has clear psychological layers in its characters and narrative. It's not made for you to simply enjoy and leave the theater; it's made to make you think, to connect the dots, to question what you think you understand.

La película mantiene un avance progresivo en la tensión. Tiene una introducción clara, un desarrollo bien construido, un clímax impactante y un desenlace satisfactorio. Los giros son, sin duda, lo mejor. Comienza contándote una versión de la historia que tú aceptas como verdad. Crees que ya resolviste el misterio. Crees que sabes quién es el villano.

Y no. Nada es lo que parece.

La película juega con las apariencias y con tu percepción. Te demuestra que no puedes confiar en nadie, y que lo que ves en la superficie rara vez es toda la verdad. No se siente larga ni pesada. Dura lo que necesita durar. No deja cabos sueltos y no se vuelve aburrida en ningún momento. Siempre estás construyendo teorías, buscando pistas, intentando adelantarte… y aun así te sorprende.

Además, no la sentí como un thriller comercial diseñado solo para entretener. Tiene capas psicológicas claras en sus personajes y en la narrativa. No está hecha para que simplemente la disfrutes y salgas del cine; está hecha para que pienses, para que unas puntos, para que dudes de lo que crees estar entendiendo.

Beyond the clinical elements mentioned, the real heart of the story is not a diagnosis or a specific condition. It is appearance. The viewer is constantly deceived by what the characters show. No one is exactly who they appear to be. Everyone shows a superficial layer, and you choose to believe it. How many times in real life do we get carried away by what others appear to be? How many times do we idealize or condemn without really knowing what lies behind?

In addition, something I really liked was that they didn't try to “romanticize” the situation. It was what it was, cruel, uncensored. They didn't look for justifications or reflections. Of course, everything has its background, and reasons why that character became who it was. But the evil of their actions remains the same, even if you know more about their history. And I like that they don't give it to you; you're left with the cruelty they committed. We live in a society that tries to soften many things that shouldn't be softened, that should be shown as they are.

It is not a light entertainment film. It is a film that demands attention, that requires you to observe the gestures, the silences, the details that the camera shows you without emphasizing them. The signs are there, but the intention is that you don't see them.

Más allá de los elementos clínicos que se mencionan, el verdadero corazón de la historia no es un diagnóstico ni una condición específica. Es la apariencia. El espectador es engañado constantemente por lo que los personajes muestran. Nadie es exactamente quien parece ser. Todos enseñan una capa superficial, y tú decides creerla. ¿Cuántas veces en la vida real nos dejamos llevar por lo que aparentan los demás? ¿Cuántas veces idealizamos o condenamos sin conocer realmente lo que hay detrás?

Además, algo que me gustó mucho, fue que no intentaron "romantizar" la situación. Fue lo que fue, cruel, sin censura. No buscaron justificaciones ni reflexiones. Claro que todo tiene su trasfondo, y razones para que ese personaje se convirtiera en quién era. Pero la maldad de sus acciones continúa siendo la misma, aunque sepas más de su historia. Y me gusta que no te la dan, te quedas con la crueldad que hizo. Vivimos en una sociedad que intenta suavizar muchas cosas que no deben serlo, que deben mostrarse tal cual son.

No es una película de entretenimiento ligero. Es una película que exige atención, que necesita que observes los gestos, los silencios, los detalles que la cámara te muestra sin subrayarlos. Las señales están ahí, pero la intención es que no las veas.

If you like psychological thrillers, mysteries built with clues and unexpected twists, this movie is for you.

I haven't read the book, so I can't compare them. I've seen comments saying that the novel is even better, and I wouldn't be surprised (books are always better). But as a film adaptation, it works. It is said to be faithful to the original story and manages to hold its own.

It's a film that leaves you thinking even after it's over. And remember that sometimes the real danger isn't in what we see... but in what we choose to believe.

No he leído el libro, así que no puedo compararlos. He visto comentarios que dicen que la novela es incluso mejor, y no me sorprendería (los libros siempre son mejores). Pero como adaptación cinematográfica, funciona. Se dice que es respetuosa con la historia original y logra sostener su propia fuerza.

Es una película que te deja pensando incluso después de terminarla. Y recuerda que, a veces, el verdadero peligro no está en lo que vemos… sino en lo que elegimos creer.
