The Kiiler 2023 // Movie Review
It's been a while since I last saw something from Michael Fassbender after I watched Assault Creed which was a bit below my expectations. So I came across The Killer and thought it might not be a bad idea to go into it. In this movie, Michael Fassbender plays the role of an assassin once again, only this time he doesn't go around jumping from rooftops to another like he did in Assassin's Creed, although he did have a relationship with storey buildings in this movie as well, and that's because he plays the role of a Sniper.
Michael is being assigned a mission to eliminate someone but unfortunately he missed his target and a lady gets hit by the bullet that was meant for his target. Before he tries to redirect he shot back the target his guards quickly intercept living him without a clear vision of his target. With nothing more left to do he vacates the premises and boards a flight. On reaching his house, he realizes that his home has been intruded and his wife was been attacked. It was clear that this was due to the incident that had taken place in his operation. He takes it upon himself to make everyone involved in this to pay for their actions.
So I've watched a lot of Sniper movies. I wouldn't say they are amongst my best type of movies, but they try their best though. One thing I've observed about Sniper movies is that somehow there is always a storey building within the location of their target. I kind of find that interesting. The first fifteen minutes of the movie were a bit empty and somehow got me yawning already. But as it progressed it gradually began to take on a new tone. The film seemed to contain less of combat, as a matter of fact I only recall one scene in which Magnito engaged in combat, the rest were just more of bullets going off from a Silencer.
I did feel that most of the people Magnito assassinated during his quest taking out revenge on his wife who was hospitalized were not really necessary. It was like he engaged on a killing spree. Well I guess that's why the film was named "The Killer", cause clearly that was what he portrayed in the film, and a cold-blooded one at that. The movie was split into a series of chapter, six to be precise, and these had to do with the set of victims gunned down.
The narrating that went on at the background of the movie created a different feeling entirely I as watched the film. One of the set of sentences that stuck to my head was when he was about assassinating a target and he would go like *"Stick to the plan. Anticipate, don't improvise. Trust no one. Fight only the battle you are paid to fight. This is what it takes to succeed." They managed to get stuck in my head that when it got to these areas I found myself completing the sentences. I guess that's some sort of Sniper's philosophy or something.
Like I said, Sniper movies are not really my best, and same goes for this one. I found the ending a bit too simple. It's one of those films were you're patiently anticipating the ending and when it comes you're like, "It's that it?" Frankly speaking, it was quite disappointing, in my opinion anyways. I rate the movie 5.5/10.
Michael Fassbender is a very good actor, this movie is a bit slow for a sniper but I still think it's watchable, at least the acting is pretty decent. I saw it a while ago and at least I wasn't bored, that's saying a lot.
