The Prosecutor (2024)|| Movie Review

The prosecutor is a movie released in the year 2024. Donnie Yen, who is also the director of the movie, takes the lead role as a cop who later turns to a prosecutor in order to serve justice better. This happens to be a movie based on true life events, which makes it even more interesting for me because I like those kinds of movies. I think the ability to take a real-life story and transform it into a movie that catches the attention of the viewers is just incredible.

Seeing Donnie Yen (after now I'll be calling him Fok because that is his name in the movie) show up in the opening scene as a police officer didn't really surprise me because I have seen a good number of his movies where he played the role of a police officer apart from IP Man and a few others. But the sudden change from his profession as a police officer to a prosecutor is something I didn't see coming in the movie. One thing I know him for in his movies kicking butts of bad guys, so I was trying to see the connection between him and that as he turned into a Prosecutor. But it turned out that that didn't stop him from doing his thing.

In this movie, Fok tries to get justice for a young man who was misjudged for drug trafficking. This happened to be a frame-up being carried out drug lord who also happens to be a barrister. What he does is use innocent and vulnerable people to receive a package containing drugs, but unknown to the recipients, so as to save himself from the risk of falling into the hands of the cops, and when the coast is clear he'll find a way to acquire the drugs. Unlucky for the young man who received the package containing drugs, the cops got an Intel and traced it to the boy's house and got him arrested.

After being manipulated by the law-educated drug lord to plead guilty in order to reduce his sentence, which the boy accepted thinking it was the best option, the boy got a twenty years plus court sentence. Fok sensed that something wasn't right and took it upon himself to dig out the truth and see that justice was served.

As usual, the movie contained mad action which is a typical kind of Donnie Yen's style of movie. The fact that the movie is based on real-life just makes me overwhelmed of the height of injustice that goes on in our world today. I think one popular quote that the movie debunks is "Seeing is believing." I don't completely agree with that statement, at least not in all cases. This is because the boy was nearly denied justice because the truth was being covered while they exposed deception to the judge and the rest of the court.

It was really a touching movie, seeing how The prosecutor was determined to go any length to see that justice was served even though it had little or nothing to do with his profession as a Prosecutor. It was more like in the court of law he fought with his words, and while on the streets he fought with his fists and legs also.

I really love Donnie Yen's movement when he fights. Another thing I liked in the movie is how they didn't really make the Protagonist seem so invisible. Yeah he's good, but they were times he received beatings too just as the bad guys did from him but he still prevailed at the end. I rate the movie 8/10. Thanks for your time.
