When People get Greedy
Greedy people was released on the 23rd of August 2024. It is a movie directed by Potsy Ponciroli and written by Mike Vukadinovich. We see a dark comedy here, escalating misadventures, bad decisions and greed; just as the movie title implies.
The Plot
The films kicks off in a peaceful small island town where a rookie cop Will, played by Himesh Patel, and his partner Terry, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitte, stumble upon a million dollars at a crime scene of their own. They made a bad decision by letting their greedy nature get the better of them, which was suggested by Terry anyway.
This leads to a chain of reaction, from an expectant mother who happens to be Will's wife, to a shrimp company owner who happens to be the husband of the deceased whose house Will and Terry found the million dollars, and a masseur (of the deceased). They all get drawn into the chaotic pursuit of mysterious million dollars.
The Review
The movie begins with a breezy and comedic touch, which was one of the things that really captured my interest at the start of the film. But as the plot unfolds and the consequences of the cops actions begin to catch up with them, the film gradually shifts into a more thriller experience. As the film went further it's like it gave way for the comedy aspect out of nowhere and things started to become more serious
It appeared that Terry stole most of the scenes, or should I say had the spotlight on him in this movie. Will on the other side portrays himself as the cool guy on the outside but on the inside he has this corrupt and betrayal instinct in him. There are a few other characters that help to showcase the town's residents and also contributes massively to the chaos which eventually unfolds during the course of the film.
The movie just left me guessing on what was going to happen next as the characters just kept getting themselves into bigger trouble. The movie had a great start, however as it drew towards the middle act I did notice some sort of slow pacing. Greedy people gives us a picture of how people responds when faced with temptations and how in most cases it makes them compromise their moral compass for the temporal gratification.
I'm giving the movie a rating of 5.5/10. See you some other time, good bye.
This movie sounds cool especially with the comic vibe but it seems the comic wasn't that highlighted in the movie as you didn't mention much of it
