MOVIE REVIEW ON PURPLE HEARTS

Purple Hearts is an emotional movie with fake arranged marriage, sacrifice and unexpected love. Directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, it is based on a novel with same name by Tess Wakefield. This movie centers on Romance, Comedy, Melodrama, Music and Drama. Can love which starts with a lie ever feel so real?

I’ve been seeing edits about this movie on my Instagram fyp, and I thought “Why don’t I give it a try?” So I did.

The Plot

Cassie Salazar is a girl diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and apparently, the insurance she had wasn’t enough to cover up the treatment she needed.

On the other hand, there’s Luke Morrow a Marine with a rather difficult past and a hanging debt. Luke also owes money to his drug dealer, Johnno. Yes, Luke was once a drug addict. And was getting threatened by Johnno to pay back 15 grand.

These two met at the bar Cassie works at and Luke seemed to have an interest in her at a glance but she’s feisty, she shunned him off. That was their first encounter, they didn’t click the first time, but I could already feel the spark.

Cassie’s Insulin’s were running out. She found out that marine’s spouses get health benefits which would be able to cover up whatever medications she needed.

They were both desperate. So they decided to get married just for the benefits. Cassie believes that marriage is just a pointless legal arrangement that turns lovers into enemies. Their marriage was only meant to be temporary and simple. But nothing about their story is simple.

So I'm sure we all know how this is going to end. Yeah… They ended up falling in love.

My Thoughts

The chemistry between Cassie and Luke was undeniable. I liked Cassie. I admire her courage and her love for music, She was the perfect wife figure even though she doesn’t believe in marriage.

She even wrote a song about Luke, and she called him her muse. I really liked that she called him that.

It broke me so much when everything was later exposed and Luke was charged with fraud, and sentenced to 6 months in prison. He received a discharge from the Marines. And in court, Luke takes responsibility and said he’d tricked Cassie into marrying him.

My Rating

Purple Heart is a movie I’m glad I didn’t sleep on it. When I first saw the name of the movie, I almost lost interest immediately. But I was also curious about why the movie was named such.

I’ll rate this movie a 8 out of 10. It’s definitely worth the watch. I’d recommend it anytime.
