[Movie] The Mask (1994) - Review
I first watched it when I was in my final year in secondary school, and I haven't had enough since then.
The Mask is a comedy, action, romance, and fantasy movie. It was directed by Chuck Russell in 1994. The movie stars Jim Carrey, Cameron Diaz, and Peter Greene.
Jim Carrey, who played Stanley Ipkiss, was an unfortunate banker who lacked confidence in himself and the things around him; because of that, he was disrespected and taken for granted.
Stanley eventually met Tina at work, who came in the guise of a customer to spy on the bank so that her fiancé and boss, Dorian, could rob it.
Stanley fell in love that instant, and it was like a prayer answered for him because the feeling was mutual. It was even more interesting when he discovered that Tina was a star at one of the popular clubs in town.
Unfortunately, the very night he was to watch her perform, he met a series of disappointments that ruined the night for him.
However, the reproach, the disappointments, and misfortune around his life became a story when he discovered an ancient mask with superpowers that can transform any living creature into a perfect being that fulfills the desires of their hearts.
Each time Stanley wears the mask, he transforms into a green human, full of humor and power.
His confidence level measures up, and with the supernatural abilities, he fights bad guys, robs banks, and also impresses Tina, but under the mask.
The story only began from that point as Dorian discovered the powers behind the mask in the possession of Stanley and was willing to do anything to get it.
The movie is quite old, but it looks like it was made just yesterday. The studio work was great for me.
The transformation and supernatural abilities Stanley gets whenever he wears the mask were well made.
It looks real and mature, like it was not made in the 90’s. The mask character was properly made with a touch of everything: a good sense of humor, affection, wisdom, and so on.
Stanley did well in the movie; although he looks more funny for me when he is Stanley and not the mask.
One of the outstanding scenes for me was when Stanley met Tina in a garden, only for the police to ambush him. When the police asked him to freeze, instead of Stanley standing still, he jumped from the bench and used his superpower to just freeze in the air. That was quite funny; I can't count the number of times I replayed that scene.
What I do not like about the movie is that so much attention was given to comedy compared to the other things.
Most of the fights were ridiculous, even when they ought to be serious. At some point, the movie became too simple and almost easy for anyone to tell what would happen next.
However, the ending was perfect; Stanley gave up the mask after defeating Dorian and decided to be himself with Tina, the love of his life.
The movie is quite good, and I must confess, a lot of work was put into it. It's a movie I will recommend to anyone to watch, especially those who are interested in love and comedy movies.

I remember well this movie. Very hilarious and one. The Mask is an interesting movie. Even the last time I watched it, I still get that humour. Jim Carrey is really good when it comes to comedy.
Seriously, they tried and Jim worked well in that movie
This movie is a classic—I've lost count of how many times I've seen it, and honestly, I never get tired of watching it. My favorite part is when they dance with the cops, hehe. It's definitely worth watching; it has great performances, and as you said, for a movie from the '90s, the mask effects were really authentic.
Seriously, the work put in that movie was excellent. It was made with so much authenticity that it still fresh even after many decades.

One of Jim Carrey's best comedy films, and what a coincidence that it was one of the first he starred in. Here we can see not only his mastery in making us laugh, but also his talent as an interpreter in bringing to life a cartoon character that seemed impossible to adapt to the big screen. Very little is said about the excellent collaboration of the special effects team and Carrey's interpretive and acting talent in this film.

That's because Jim Carrey had such skill in performing those facial expressions and ways of walking and acting that it confuses you whether those scenes were really done by CGI or not.
Hey, friend, this is a great movie. Every time I've had the chance to watch it, I've enjoyed it, since it's a great mix of humor and comedy—and above all, it manages to create a character who, instead of being scary, makes you laugh, which is really great and fun. Do you think they'll make a sequel?
It's such a great movie and the end was perfect, I don't think there's a need for sequel but if they decided to put something up again, we are ready to watch 😊
