Comedy for the Family: I Love Lucy

Promotional poster as seen on IMDb.

I remember one of the shows my grandmother liked to watch was I Love Lucy. She was the reason why I knew about this comedy. Of course, I didn't know English well at the time (I was five or six). My grandmother watched it fine without the Chinese subtitles most of the time. As far as I was concerned, I understood none of the plots. Nevertheless, I laughed along with Lucy and Ethel's antics.

When I worked in broadcasting at university, I had the opportunity to pick this show up again. I Love Lucy was one of the regular prime time programmings on the station. I then learned more about the premise of the series. As a child, I didn't know Lucy was a redhead or that her husband, Ricky, was Cuban.

Overall, this show was one of the broadcasting crew's favorites. I remember when my colleagues and I would queue up the series and play it on one of our offline monitors. Some of them found Little Ricky a bit less likable, but I appreciated the mostly family-friendly content that stood the test of time. Most of us chuckled when Ricky went off in Spanish in response to Lucy's actions.

One of my favorite episodes was when Lucy did a commercial for dietary supplements.

         Gotta get yourself some Vitameatavegimen!

Would I subscribe to streaming services to watch this again? No. I don't subscribe to what I can find elsewhere on the internet. However, I recommend I Love Lucy to those who want to check out a classic comedy.

We have a channel in our package that plays a lot of this old content. I think it is called Comet or something like that. When I was a kid all of these old shows were on Nick at Night on Nickelodeon. It was great fun to watch them, but you had to have cable. My parents loved it too because it was some good nostalgia for them.

Yeah, it’s pretty awesome how you don’t need cable these days for that.

Whenever I think of I Love Lucy this song pops into my head

I watched this show as a kid, and as an adult I don't know anyone who didn't love Lucy. She was a woman ahead of her time and not afraid of ridicule. Cheers.

I watched this show with my grandmother also lol, that and The Honeymooners. Good times.

Haha it’s got certain demographic.

Hahaha yeah. The only time i remember watching those was at her house. She didn’t have cable and only a few channels back then.

The way you are telling about this show, now I must watch this poem because I am also very fond of watching the artistic comedy show. I'll let you know how I feel after watching the show. Here in Pakistan there is a talk comedy show on a news channel which is very popular in Pakistan.
