¡Hola amigos! Hoy les traigo reseña de la película At Midnight.
Es gracioso como resulta todo porque no tenía planeado ver esta película, de hecho quería ver otra, pero me llamó la atención porque la empezaron a promocionar en la televisión y ahí vi que uno de los actores es Diego Boneta, quien interpretó a Luis Miguel en su serie autobiográfica. Eso hizo aumentar mi curiosidad, quería ver cómo se desempeñaba en una película de comedia romántica. Acá les traigo el resultado.

Hello friends! Today I bring you a review of the movie At Midnight.
It's funny how it all turns out because I wasn't planning to see this movie, in fact I wanted to see another one, but it caught my attention because they started promoting it on TV and there I saw that one of the actors is Diego Boneta, who played Luis Miguel in his autobiographical series. That made me even more curious, I wanted to see how he performed in a romantic comedy movie. Here I bring you the result.

La película nos muestra la vida de Sophie Wilder, una actriz que es conocida por interpretar una trilogía de superhéroes junto con su pareja Adam. En uno de los rodajes Sophie descubre que su novio la está engañando con otra, pero tiene que fingir que todo está bien y seguir con la relación hasta que terminen de filmar la última película para no provocar un escándalo. Además sus respectivos mánager parecen coincidir en que los dos son más famosos cuando están juntos que por separado. Así que acepta continuar la farsa.

The movie shows us the life of Sophie Wilder, an actress who is known for playing a superhero trilogy along with her partner Adam. On one of the shoots Sophie discovers that her boyfriend is cheating on her with someone else, but she has to pretend that everything is fine and continue the relationship until they finish filming the last movie so as not to cause a scandal. Plus their respective managers seem to agree that the two are more famous when they are together than separately. So he agrees to continue the charade.

El rodaje de la última película transcurre en México, lo que hace que se tengan que quedar un mes entero en un hotel donde trabaja Alejandro. Él es un mujeriego, solo tiene relaciones de una noche, y el deseo de que lo manden a trabajar a la sucursal de Nueva York por lo que hace todo al pie de la letra para lograr su meta. Sin embargo, el hotel tiene la política de que no hay que tener relaciones con los clientes porque podría perder su empleo, pero como esta es una comedia romántica, es lo que va a pasar. Alejandro y Sophie se van a sentir atraídos el uno al otro, y así empezarán sus citas, todas al abrigo de la medianoche.

The shooting of the last film takes place in Mexico, which makes them have to stay a whole month in a hotel where Alejandro works. He is a womanizer, only has one-night stands, and the desire to be sent to work in the New York branch so he does everything to the letter to achieve his goal. However, the hotel has a policy that you don't have to have relationships with clients because you could lose your job, but since this is a romantic comedy, that's what's going to happen. Alejandro and Sophie are going to be attracted to each other, and so their dates will begin, all under the cover of midnight.

La película me resultó bastante entretenida y creo que cumple con su función de hacer reír en ocasiones. Tiene bastantes clichés pero funcionan bien. La trama no es de lo mejor que haya visto, ni es una película que provoque muchos suspiros como a mi me gusta. Sin embargo, me gustó mucho la química entre los actores, mantuvieron el romance funcionando. Aunque sí siento que ocurrió todo muy rápido y hubo cortes de escenas que se sintieron un poco bruscos, como si su cometido fuera llegar hacia el final lo más rápido que se pudiera.

I found the movie quite entertaining and I think it fulfills its function of making people laugh at times. It has quite a few clichés but they work well. The plot is not one of the best I have seen, nor is it a movie that provokes a lot of sighs like I like. However, I really liked the chemistry between the actors, they kept the romance working. Although I do feel that it all happened very fast and there were scene cuts that felt a bit abrupt, as if their job was to get to the end as fast as they could.

Los que le aportan el humor fueron los personajes secundarios, la mejor amiga de Sophie, que además es su asistente, fue uno de mis personajes favoritos. Y el mejor amigo de Alejandro también le metió cierta chispa. Ellos trajeron alivio a la trama, y pusieron en su lugar a los protagonistas, como es debido.

The ones who bring the humor were the secondary characters, Sophie's best friend, who is also her assistant, was one of my favorite characters. And Alejandro's best friend also added some spark. They brought relief to the plot, and put the main characters in their place, as they should.

Algo que destacó de este film es que las escenas donde solo había diálogos entre mexicanos las hicieran en español y no en inglés. Se agradece mucho porque a veces es muy común hacer toda la película en idioma inglés lo que le quita credibilidad, ya que quién en su sano juicio hablaría en otro idioma con una persona que habla tu misma lengua materna. Es más, les diría que fue un 50 y 50, o tal vez más, de conversaciones en español porque Sophie también hablaba un poco el idioma y se interesaba por aprender y Alejandro la ayudaba.

Something that stood out in this film is that the scenes where there were only dialogues between Mexicans were done in Spanish and not in English. It is very appreciated because sometimes it is very common to make the whole film in English, which takes away credibility, because who in their right mind would speak in another language with a person who speaks the same language as your mother tongue. In fact, I would say that it was 50-50, or maybe more, of conversations in Spanish because Sophie also spoke a little bit of the language and was interested in learning and Alejandro helped her.

A pesar de esto, y de que la película transcurre mayormente en México, sigue teniendo una mirada estadounidense del asunto. Sentí una mezcla extraña entre escenas Hollywoodenses y de telenovelas, hasta en los planos que usaban y en el foco de la cámara. Admito que me gustó esto. Fue interesante de ver.

Despite this, and the fact that the film takes place mostly in Mexico, it still has an American look to it. I felt a strange mix between Hollywood and telenovela scenes, right down to the shots used and the focus of the camera. I admit I liked this. It was interesting to watch.

Bueno, siento que es una buena película para disfrutar en la tarde o en la medianoche para hacerle honor a su nombre. Tiene una trama bastante simple pero se deja apreciar, aunque no me gustó el ritmo acelerado que llevo en muchas ocasiones. De todos modos, me creí la historia de amor y pase un buen rato viéndola.

Esta fue mi opinión sobre la película At Midnight. Espero que les haya gustado y se animen a verla. Si ya lo hicieron me gustaría saber su opinión.

Well, I feel it's a good movie to enjoy in the afternoon or at midnight to live up to its name. It has a fairly simple plot but it is easy to appreciate, although I didn't like the fast pace in many occasions. Anyway, I believed the love story and had a good time watching it.
