¡Hola amigos! Hoy les traigo mi opinión sobre la serie de La reina Charlotte, basada en los libros de Julia Quinn sobre la saga Bridgerton.

Hello friends! Today I bring you my take on the Queen Charlotte series, based on Julia Quinn's books about the Bridgerton serie.

Como ustedes saben, tengo debilidad por el género romántico y si es de época mejor. Soy una gran fan de la serie Bridgerton, así que estaba esperando este spin off con muchas ansias. Si vieron la serie probablemente ya conozcan al personaje de la Reina Charlotte en su etapa adulta. En esta serie de 6 capítulos nos cuentan la historia de cómo pasó de ser una joven que vivía en Alemania junto con su hermano a convertirse en la reina de Inglaterra con tan solo 17 años sin estar preparada para su nuevo rol, ya que sucedió todo de imprevisto.

As you know, I have a weakness for the romance genre and if it's period all the better. I'm a big fan of the Bridgerton series, so I was looking forward to this spin off. If you saw the series you probably already know the character of Queen Charlotte in her adult stage. In this 6-episode series we are told the story of how she went from being a young girl living in Germany with her brother to becoming the Queen of England at only 17 years old without being prepared for her new role, as it all happened unexpectedly.

Esto no es todo, también tiene que lidiar con una situación bastante desfavorecedora y desconcertante, su esposo el Rey George, no quiere pasar tiempo con ella y eligió vivir en otra casa. This is not all, she also has to deal with a rather unfavorable and puzzling situation, her husband King George, does not want to spend time with her and chose to live in another house. Charlotte doesn't understand what the reason for this is, so she spends her days alone in her new residence with a bunch of employees she doesn't know, in a country that is foreign to her. Until she decides to confront the king and he finally decides to move in with her. But one night it becomes clear that something is not right with King George's mind and Charlotte must fight against all odds to keep both the secret and George safe in order to preserve her reign and her love.

Esta serie superó mis expectativas, la verdad que le tenia fe pero aun así no tenia idea de lo mucho que me iba a estrujar el corazón. Ya hubo vistazos alrededor de las dos temporadas que vimos de la serie Bridgerton sobre la reina y su relación con el rey, esta parece distante y fría, como si a ella no le importara él, pero también es cierto que hubo algunas escenas que nos indican que en realidad lo amaba (y todavía lo hace), y con esta serie quedó comprobado. Lo que no sabía era la magnitud de todo lo que sucedió con ellos y lo que tuvieron que vivir.

This series exceeded my expectations, the truth is that I had faith in it but I still had no idea how much it was going to squeeze my heart. There were already glimpses around the two seasons we saw of the Bridgerton series about the queen and her relationship with the king, this one seems distant and cold, as if she did not care about him, but it is also true that there were some scenes that indicate that she really loved him (and still does), and with this series it was proven. What I didn't know was the magnitude of everything that happened with them and what they had to live through.

Aunque lo más impactante es saber que aunque esta sea una historia de ficción, y los personajes están ficcionalizados, se mezclan con matices y retazos de hechos reales: como la salud mental del Rey George; la teoría de que la Reina Charlotte era mestiza y tenía la piel negra, aunque se intentaba ocultar este hecho en sus pinturas; así como el peligro que corría la línea sucesoria al trono por la falta de un heredero oficial por parte de los hijos de ellos dos.

Although the most shocking thing is to know that although this is a fictional story, and the characters are fictionalized, they are mixed with nuances and snippets of real facts: such as the mental health of King George; the theory that Queen Charlotte was mixed race and had black skin, although she tried to hide this fact in her paintings; as well as the danger that the line of succession to the throne was in due to the lack of an official heir by the children of the two of them.

Fue difícil ver lo mal que eran tratadas las enfermedades mentales en aquellas épocas, al no saber como encararlas lo que hacían era intentar corregir el mal a base de castigos y torturas, una locura. Lo bueno es que Charlotte acepto a George tal como era y lo acompaño en su enfermedad lo mejor posible.

It was difficult to see how poorly mental illness was treated in those times, not knowing how to deal with it, what they did was to try to correct the evil by means of punishments and tortures, a madness. The good thing is that Charlotte accepted George as he was and accompanied him through his illness as best she could.

La verdad que la encontré muy interesante porque también nos mostraron la vida de Lady Danbury y cómo llego a convertirse en lady a pesar de ser negra y haber enviudado muy joven, por lo que ya no contaba con la protección de un hombre. Nos hablan del racismo y del como tener una nueva reina de color les cambió la vida porque empezaron a tener participación en las cortes.

I found it very interesting because they also showed us the life of Lady Danbury and how she became a lady despite being black and being widowed very young, so she no longer had the protection of a man. They talk about racism and how having a new queen of color changed their lives because they began to participate in the courts.

También, siguiendo con la inclusión, nos presentaron un romance entre dos hombres, Brimsley, quien le sirve a la Reina Charlotte, y Reynolds, que le sirve al Rey George. Tuvieron una historia muy linda, aunque puedo deducir que no terminó muy bien aunque no nos hayan mostrado qué es lo que sucedió. Esa es una queja de mi parte, no dejes una historia contada por la mitad, todavía tengo esperanzas de que se haga mención más adelante.

Also, in keeping with the inclusion, we were introduced to a romance between two men, Brimsley, who serves Queen Charlotte, and Reynolds, who serves King George. They had a very cute story, although I can gather that it didn't end very well even though they didn't show us what happened. That's a complaint from me, don't leave a story told in the middle, I still have hopes for a mention later on.

El soundtrack estuvo excelente como siempre, la manera de usar canciones actuales para hacerlas parecer clásicas le da el toque a esta serie. Además del hecho de que hayan utilizado canciones de mujeres negras para demostrar un punto. El vestuario estuvo impecable, al igual que la fotografía, me dan ganas de meterme adentro y vivir un rato allí. Esto ya lo dijeron mucho también, pero adoré el cast, los actores elegidos lo hicieron muy bien y fue genial el parecido físico a sus versiones adultas encarnadas por otros actores. También fue una sorpresa saber que la actriz que interpreta a la princesa Augusta, madre del Rey George, es Michelle Fairley, que le dio vida a Catelyn Stark en Game of Thrones.

The soundtrack was excellent as always, the way they use current songs to make them sound like classics gives this series the edge. Plus the fact that they used songs by black women to prove a point. The costumes were impeccable, as was the photography, it makes me want to get inside and live there for a while. This has been said a lot already too, but I adored the cast, the actors cast did great and it was great the physical resemblance to their adult versions played by other actors. It was also a surprise to learn that the actress playing Princess Augusta, King George's mother, is Michelle Fairley, who played Catelyn Stark in Game of Thrones.

Ahora puedo decir que entiendo mucho más a la reina Charlotte de Los Bridgerton, ya que el final de esta historia me estrujó el corazón, y saber todo lo que tuvo que soportar con una entereza y fortaleza de acero no hizo más que aumentar mi admiración por este personaje, es mi nueva protegida. De nuevo se renovaron mis esperanzas para la tercera temporada de la serie y ojalá se siga ampliando el universo contando aquellas historias que falten.

Now I can say that I understand Queen Charlotte of The Bridgerton much more, since the end of this story squeezed my heart, and knowing everything she had to endure with a fortitude and strength of steel only increased my admiration for this character, she is my new protégé. Once again my hopes for the third season of the series were renewed and hopefully the universe will continue to expand by telling those stories that are missing.
