Movie review: A Haunting in Venice [ES/EN]

¡Hola amigos! En el día de hoy les traigo mi opinión sobre la película Misterio en Venecia.
Parece que sigo en una racha de ver estás películas, pero prepárense porque pronto voy a empezar con las navideñas 🤭.

Hello friends! Today I bring you my opinion about the movie A Haunting in Venice.
It seems I'm still on a streak of watching these movies, but get ready because soon I'm going to start with the Christmas ones 🤭.

Trama - Plot

La película se centra en un famoso detective llamado Hercule Poirot que está desencantado de su trabajo y decidió retirarse, pero es persuadido por una autora de libros de crímenes y misterios a que retome los casos. Para esto, lo lleva a una casa donde ocurrió un aparente suicidó de una joven y ahora la madre va a aprovechar la noche de Halloween para celebrar una sesión de espiritismo con una médium para contactar con el alma de su difunta hija y descubrir lo qué pasó, ya que se dice que la casa está embrujada porque fue el escenario de una tragedia hace muchos años atrás y se tomó venganza llevando a la joven a la locura haciendo que saltará desde la ventana de su habitación.

The film focuses on a famous detective named Hercule Poirot who is disenchanted with his work and decided to retire, but is persuaded by an author of crime and mystery books to resume the cases. For this, she takes him to a house where there was an apparent suicide of a young girl and now the mother is going to take advantage of Halloween night to hold a séance with a medium to contact the soul of her deceased daughter and find out what happened, as it is said that the house is haunted because it was the scene of a tragedy many years ago and revenge was taken by driving the young girl to madness by making her jump from her bedroom window.

Sin embargo, Poirot no cree en fantasmas y piensa que hay un asesino entre ellos. Su sospecha se confirma cuando alguien intenta ahogarlo y posteriormente encuentran el cuerpo sin vida de la médium. Ahora es su turno de desempolvar su intuición y averiguar quién es el asesino.

However, Poirot does not believe in ghosts and thinks there is a murderer among them. His suspicion is confirmed when someone tries to drown him and later they find the lifeless body of the medium. Now it is his turn to dust off his intuition and find out who the murderer is.

No es una película que estuviera entre mis pendientes, de hecho, estaba buscando qué ver y me topé con ella. Me llamó la atención y quise darle una oportunidad, la verdad es que me terminó gustando bastante.

It is not a movie that was among my pending, in fact, I was looking for what to see and I stumbled upon it. It caught my attention and I wanted to give it a chance, the truth is that I ended up liking it a lot.

Siento que fue un poco predecible en algunos puntos, aunque tenía varias teorías de lo que podría haber ocurrido y la película se encargó de guiarme hasta la correcta. De todos modos, debo destacar que en un momento fue difícil no creer en que de verdad todo había sido producto de un suceso paranormal. Pero cuando las piezas del rompecabezas fueron cayendo en su lugar fue como muy obvio en ese entonces.

I feel that it was a bit predictable at some points, although I had several theories of what could have happened and the movie was in charge of guiding me to the right one. Anyway, I must point out that at one point it was hard not to believe that it was really all the product of a paranormal event. But as the pieces of the puzzle fell into place it was kind of obvious at the time.

Aunque la película juega con esa carta todo el tiempo, qué tanto es real y qué otro tanto pertenece a fuerzas que desconocemos. Me gustó ese paralelismo porque creo que estuvo bien hilado meter un poco de los dos como para hacer las cosas más interesantes y no dar algo por sentado. Como si quisieran quedar bien con Dios y con el diablo por decirlo de alguna manera.

Although the film plays with that card all the time, how much is real and how much belongs to forces we don't know. I liked that parallelism because I think it was well spun to bring in a bit of both to make things more interesting and not take something for granted. As if they wanted to get along with God and the devil, so to speak.

La verdad que me pareció muy entretenida la película, tuvo momentos interesantes y otros perturbadores y dramáticos. Siempre me gustaron los casos de detectives y misterios cuando están bien ejecutados y acá sentí que lo estaba.

The truth is that I found the movie very entertaining, it had interesting moments and other disturbing and dramatic ones. I always like detective cases and mysteries when they are well executed and here I felt it was.

También me gustó la actuación de los actores, casi que no suelo destacar este hecho ya que lo doy por sentado al gustarme alguna producción que veo también es porque me gustó la actuación de los involucrados. Me sorprendió ver a Jamie Dornan, ya que no tenía idea que formaba parte de este film hasta que apareció en pantalla.

I also liked the acting of the actors, I almost don't usually highlight this fact as I take it for granted when I like any production I see it's also because I liked the acting of those involved. I was surprised to see Jamie Dornan, as I had no idea he was part of this film until he appeared on screen.

Por otro lado, siempre es bienvenido conocer un poco del mundo, sus paisajes y ciudades aunque sea a través de una pantalla. Uno de mis sueños es conocer Venecia y aquí tuve un vistazo de esta magnífica ciudad sumergida.

On the other hand, it is always welcome to know a bit of the world, its landscapes and cities even if it is through a screen. One of my dreams is to know Venice and here I had a glimpse of this magnificent submerged city.
