Trama - Plot

La historia sigue a Paul, un hombre soltero y ermitaño con problemas para relacionarse con las personas. Tras el fallecimiento de su padre, con el que no tenía una buena relación, recibe una herencia bastante particular, un perro. Él está dispuesto a deshacerse del animal en cuanto pueda, pero el perro tiene otros planes para él. Con el correr de los días lo que parecía una molestia se convierte en un cariño genuino y Perro le dará una perspectiva diferente sobre la vida.

The story follows Paul, a single, reclusive man who struggles to connect with others. After the death of his father, with whom he didn’t have a good relationship, he receives a rather unusual inheritance: a dog. He’s determined to get rid of the animal as soon as possible, but the dog has other plans for him. As the days go by, what seemed like a nuisance turns into genuine affection, and Dog will give him a different perspective on life.

Esta película me llamó la atención por el título, los que me conocen un poco saben que amo las historias con animales como protagonistas. Pensé que esta iba a ser una comedia romántica más con una adorable mascota haciendo de las suyas, y sí ocurre eso, al mismo tiempo que pasan sucesos un poco tristes.

This movie caught my attention because of its title; anyone who knows me a little knows that I love stories with animals as the main characters. I thought this was going to be just another romantic comedy with an adorable pet getting into mischief, and while that does happen, there are also some somewhat sad moments.

La historia me pareció que iba a ser algo cómica de entrada, pero con el correr de los minutos me encontré con sutilezas más profundas que funcionaban muy bien para la trama. El hecho de que Paul no quisiera quedarse con el perro y que nos muestran como poco a poco esto fue cambiando, y al final decide quedarse con él. Por un momento pensé que lo iba a dejar ir, pero se hicieron inseparables. El perro logró ganarse el cariño de Paul y lo llevó a conocer a una bella dama. Ahí es donde empieza la historia de amor.

At first, I thought the story was going to be a bit of a comedy, but as the minutes went by, I discovered deeper nuances that worked really well for the plot. The fact that Paul didn’t want to keep the dog, and how they show us how that gradually changed, until he finally decides to keep him. For a moment I thought he was going to let him go, but they became inseparable. The dog managed to win Paul’s affection and led him to meet a beautiful woman. That’s where the love story begins.

Esa parte me hizo reír mucho, tampoco le tenía fe porque el tipo es un huraño cascarrabias, pero Laura es un soplo de aire fresco que trajo diversión a la historia, y sentido común, fue tan ingeniosa y paciente. El romance se sintió correcto, nada de apresurado. Además, ella es madre soltera, tiene dos hijas encantadoras, pero rebeldes a su manera. La mayor le pondrá varios palos en la rueda a esta relación.

That part really made me laugh. I didn't have much faith in him either, since he's such a grumpy loner, but Laura is a breath of fresh air who brought fun and common sense to the story—she was so witty and patient. The romance felt right—nothing rushed. Plus, she’s a single mom with two lovely daughters, though they’re rebellious in their own way. The older one will throw a few wrenches in the works for this relationship.

Para ese punto yo ya estaba encantada con la película porque me estaba dando más de lo que esperaba en un principio. Me gustó que se tratara un poco lo del tipo de apego evitativo que tienen algunas personas, ese miedo a abrirse y sentir demasiado porque empiezan a pensar en todo lo que podría salir mal y eso los hace alejarse. Fue curioso como estuvo planteado desde el inicio, sin darlo a conocer del todo, pero entendiéndose bien. También por su tipo de trauma de sentirse insuficiente o no querido, ni merecedor de amor en su pasado.

By that point, I was already hooked on the movie because it was giving me more than I had initially expected. I liked that it touched a bit on the avoidant attachment style that some people have—that fear of opening up and feeling too much because they start thinking about everything that could go wrong, and that makes them pull away. It was interesting how it was set up from the start, without revealing it all, but making it clear enough. Also because of the kind of trauma they experienced—feeling inadequate or unloved, or unworthy of love in their past.

Luego pasó algo que lo cambió todo, pero de alguna manera ayudó a que la situación mejorará con Paul y su nueva familia, aunque no fue la mejor noticia. En ese punto yo ya estaba despotricando porque se puede hacer una película linda sin ese tipo de dramatismo. No lo estoy nombrando para no hacerles spoilers, pero sí me molestó y al final lloré un poco. De todos modos, la historia es hermosa y creo que merece la pena verla. Van a adorar a Perro, porque sí, como Paul no quería uno y no vino con un nombre, lo llamó Perro, así a secas.

Then something happened that changed everything, but somehow it helped improve the situation for Paul and his new family, even though it wasn’t exactly good news. At that point, I was already ranting because you can make a heartwarming movie without that kind of drama. I won’t mention it so as not to spoil it for you, but it did bother me, and in the end, I cried a little. Anyway, the story is beautiful, and I think it’s worth watching. You’re going to love Dog, because, well, since Paul didn’t want one and it didn’t come with a name, he just called it Dog, plain and simple.

Sin duda, Perro fue el eje central en la historia. Él fue con una misión y la cumplió con creces, se hizo querer mucho. Así que les recomiendo ver la película. Es de esas que te logran sorprender un poco, recomiendo ir a ciegas y entregarse a la historia.

Without a doubt, Dog was the central figure in the story. He came with a mission and more than fulfilled it; he really won everyone over. So I recommend you watch the movie. It’s one of those films that manages to surprise you a little; I recommend going in blind and letting yourself get swept up in the story.
