¡Hola amigos! Hoy les vengo a traer mi reseña acerca de la película Obsesión. Sé que hay opiniones diversas dando vueltas y acá les va una más, así que los invito a quedarse a leer.

La historia sigue a Bear, un hombre tímido que está interesado en su mejor amiga, pero que no se anima a decirle lo que siente. Hasta que un día va a una tienda a comprar un cristal de cuarzo que se le perdió a Nikki y le llama la atención un sauce del deseo que afirma cumplirte un deseo al partir la rama que trae. Él lo compró para regalárselo a Nikki, pero en un momento desesperado decide usar su deseo para hacer que ella se enamoré de él y esto termina por generarle una obsesión a la chica, al punto de no ser ella misma y empezar a tener ataques de histeria y comportamientos extraños que dan miedo.

The story follows Bear, a shy man who has a crush on his best friend but can’t bring himself to tell her how he feels. Until one day, he goes to a store to buy a quartz crystal that Nikki had lost, and his attention is caught by a “wishing willow” that claims to grant a wish when you break off one of its branches. He bought it to give to Nikki, but in a moment of desperation, he decides to use his wish to make her fall in love with him. This ends up causing her to become obsessed, to the point where she is no longer herself and begins to have hysterical outbursts and strange, frightening behavior.

La película da para varias críticas. Para empezar, tenía mucha curiosidad por verla y entender la polémica que traía, pero a decir verdad, no me engancho tanto. Es más, hasta tuvo momentos un poco aburridos o densos. No empatice con ninguno de los personajes, todos estaban en su mundo individual pensando en ellos mismos. Esto la hizo bastante monótona, no salía de la misma encrucijada, este chico tímido, con baja autoestima y bastante introvertido que pide un deseo y, de repente, cuando se da cuenta de la realidad, ya no lo quiere. Es lo típico que suele pasar, una persona deseando algo que cuando lo tiene se da cuenta que no era como lo imaginaba y termina arrepentido. En ese sentido es realista.

The movie leaves a lot to be desired. To start with, I was really curious to see it and understand the controversy surrounding it, but to be honest, it didn’t really grab me. In fact, there were even moments that were a bit boring or slow-moving. I didn’t connect with any of the characters; they were all in their own little worlds, thinking only of themselves. This made it pretty monotonous—it never really moved beyond the same dilemma: this shy, self-conscious, and rather introverted boy who makes a wish and, suddenly, when he realizes the reality of it, no longer wants it. It’s the typical scenario: someone wishing for something, only to realize once they have it that it wasn’t what they imagined, and ending up regretting it. In that sense, it’s realistic.

También se puede abordar desde el lado del terror, de cómo esta chica se obsesiona con él y empieza a tener comportamientos cuestionables y violentos, ataques de celos desmedidos y acciones que ponen en peligro su vida y la de terceros. En varias escenas es bastante terrorífica su actitud, te da miedo en serio. Pero, al mismo tiempo, comprendes que no es ella, es otro ser el que está en su cuerpo y eso te da algo de lástima. Al menos eso es lo que me paso a mí.

You can also approach it from a horror perspective—how this girl becomes obsessed with him and starts exhibiting questionable and violent behavior, bouts of uncontrollable jealousy, and actions that endanger her own life and the lives of others. In several scenes, her attitude is quite terrifying—she really scares you. But at the same time, you realize that it’s not really her; it’s another being inside her body, and that makes you feel a little sorry for her. At least that’s how I felt.

Al final termine enojada porque Nikki era una chica normal que por culpa de alguien que no supo resolver sus sentimientos y confesar lo que sentía por ella, aceptando un posible rechazo, le terminó por arruinar la vida. Porque eso es lo que pasó, el tipo se arrepiente de sus actos e intenta remediar lo que hizo, pero ya es tarde, pasaron muchas cosas y la vida de Nikki ya está arruinada para siempre. Si me preguntan, esto fue lo más terrorífico.

In the end, I was angry because Nikki was a normal girl whose life was ruined by someone who couldn’t figure out his feelings or confess what he felt for her—even though he might have been rejected. Because that’s what happened: the guy regrets his actions and tries to make things right, but it’s too late—too much has happened, and Nikki’s life is already ruined forever. If you ask me, that was the scariest part.

No les voy a dar más detalles para no spoilearlos, pero sí es una película que me hizo enojar más que disfrutarla. También entiendo que uno desde la inocencia y la ignorancia no tendría porque saber todo lo que pasaría a raíz de pedir ese deseo, ni que se cumpliría realmente. La verdad es una película que te deja reflexionando acerca de esto que sucede.

I won't give you any more details so as not to spoil it for you, but it is a movie that made me angry rather than enjoy it. I also understand that, out of innocence and ignorance, one wouldn't necessarily know everything that would happen as a result of making that wish, or that it would actually come true. The truth is, it's a movie that leaves you reflecting on what happens.

No quiero dejar de destacar lo que dije al principio de que todos los personajes eran individualistas y solo se fijaban en ellos mismos, porque incluso entre amigos se ocultaban cosas y cuando Nikki empezó a tener esos comportamientos raros, ninguno se acercó a saber cómo estaba o si necesitaba ayuda de verdad. En fin. Ahí lo dejo. La verdad es que no me gustó mucho, será una de esas películas olvidables que tampoco ofrece nada nuevo.

I want to reiterate what I said at the beginning—that all the characters were self-centered and only cared about themselves—because even among friends, they kept things from each other, and when Nikki started acting strangely, none of them reached out to see how she was doing or if she really needed help. Anyway. I’ll leave it at that. The truth is, I didn’t like it very much; it’s one of those forgettable movies that doesn’t offer anything new.
