¡Hola amigos! Hoy me paso por acá para compartirles mi reseña acerca de una adaptación de cine basada en un libro. Les estoy hablando de No te olvidaré.

Hi, everyone! I'm stopping by today to share my review of a film adaptation based on a book. I'm talking about Reminders of Him.

Trama - Plot

La historia sigue a Kenna, una mujer que acaba de salir de la cárcel tras 5 años y busca una nueva oportunidad para empezar de nuevo. Ella fue acusada de ser la responsable del accidente automovilístico que mató a su novio en ese entonces. En prisión se entera que está embarazada, y en el momento del parto la separan de su bebé que será criada por sus abuelos paternos. Ahora que acaba de salir, lo único que quiere es conocer a su hija, que ni siquiera la dejaron ver cuando la parió, pero su pasado todavía la condena y el dolor de aquel día está más presente que nunca.

The story follows Kenna, a woman who has just been released from prison after five years and is looking for a fresh start. She was accused of causing the car accident that killed her boyfriend at the time. While in prison, she learns she is pregnant, and at the time of her delivery, she is separated from her baby, who will be raised by her paternal grandparents. Now that she’s just been released, all she wants is to meet her daughter, whom they didn’t even let her see when she gave birth, but her past still haunts her, and the pain of that day is more present than ever.

Es una película con una historia más profunda de lo que parece, es complejo porque hay una niña en el medio. Pero se entiende el dolor de esos padres que perdieron a su hijo de una manera trágica. Aunque, por acá siempre fui del equipo de Kenna, me parece que fueron muy injustos con ella, ya que también sufrió la pérdida de Scotty y encima no pudo conocer a su hija, además de que la mantienen apartada de su vida.

It’s a movie with a deeper story than it seems; it’s complex because there’s a little girl caught in the middle. But you can understand the pain of those parents who lost their son in such a tragic way. Although I’ve always been on Kenna’s side, I think they were very unfair to her, since she also suffered the loss of Scotty and, on top of that, never got to meet her daughter—not to mention that they’re keeping her out of her life.

Aunque la película tiene el plus de que fue bastante más amena con la protagonista, en el libro es todo mucho más crudo. Todos la trataban muy mal y yo solo podía leer su dolor y sus ganas de conocer a la pequeña Diem, fue una historia que padecí leerla. En ese sentido la película es mucho más dinámica y llevadera. Además, se me pasó volando mientras la veía. Es algo emotiva, lógicamente, así que alguna que otra lágrima va a aparecer, sobre todo si son sensibles.

Although the movie has the advantage of being much more enjoyable thanks to the lead actress, the book is much more raw. Everyone treated her terribly, and all I could sense was her pain and her longing to meet little Diem—it was a story that was painful to read. In that sense, the movie is much more dynamic and easy to watch. Plus, it flew by while I was watching it. It’s a bit emotional, of course, so a tear or two is bound to fall, especially if you’re sensitive.

También me sorprendió para bien que haya sido bastante fiel al libro. Incluso hay cosas que me gustaron más como las mostraron en la película, por momentos hasta me pareció algo divertida y eso me gustó mucho. También me agradaron los actores elegidos, no los conocía, pero personificaron muy bien a sus personajes. En esta ocasión no odie tanto a Ledger.

I was also pleasantly surprised that it stayed pretty true to the book. There were even some things I liked better the way they were portrayed in the movie; at times, I even found it kind of funny, and I really liked that. I also liked the actors they cast—I didn’t know them, but they portrayed their characters very well. This time around, I didn’t hate Ledger as much.

Ledger es el nuevo interés amoroso, porque sí, no todo es drama, también hay romance y me gustó cómo estaba planteado y cómo fue naciendo. Él era el mejor amigo de Scotty y se convirtió en la figura paterna de la niña desde que nació. Es interesante pensar en qué hubiera pasado si algo fuese diferente, hay preguntas que me intrigan mucho acerca del destino. La niña que hace de Diem es un amor y es increíble la madurez de los niños para tomarse temas tan serios con tanta naturalidad. Realmente no les damos el suficiente crédito.

Ledger is the new love interest—because, well, it’s not all drama; there’s romance too, and I liked how it was handled and how it developed. He was Scotty’s best friend and became a father figure to the girl from the moment she was born. It’s interesting to think about what might have happened if things had been different; there are questions about fate that really intrigue me. The girl who plays Diem is a sweetheart, and it’s amazing how mature the kids are in tackling such serious topics so naturally. We really don’t give them enough credit.

Es una película sobre segundas oportunidades, dejar el pasado atrás y aferrarse a la vida aunque duela. Tiene frases muy bonitas y seguro les deja alguna reflexión. Está más que recomendada por mí parte. Eso sí, tengan pañuelos a mano, están avisados.

It’s a movie about second chances, leaving the past behind, and holding on to life even when it hurts. It has some really beautiful lines and is sure to give you something to think about. I highly recommend it. Just make sure to have tissues handy—you’ve been warned.
