🎬 Movie Review: The Whisper Man [ES/EN]

¡Hola amigos! Hoy me paso por acá para traerles mi reseña acerca de la película de la plataforma de Netflix llamada Susurran tu nombre.

Hi, friends! I'm stopping by today to share my review of the Netflix movie The Whisper Man.

Trama - Plot

La historia gira en torno a un padre viudo y su hijo que se mudan a la ciudad donde creció la madre del niño para empezar una nueva vida. Una noche, el niño desaparece, pero no es el único niño desaparecido de la misma manera. Se piensa que el caso está relacionado con "El hombre que susurra" que está cumpliendo cadena perpetua por cometer multiples asesinatos de niños en el pasado, pero hay alguien que lo estaría imitando, y ahora necesitarán su ayuda y la del policía que lo llevó a la cárcel, que justamente es el abuelo de Jake, el niño desaparecido.

The story revolves around a widowed father and his son who move to the city where the boy’s mother grew up to start a new life. One night, the boy goes missing, but he isn’t the only child to have disappeared in this way. It is believed that the case is linked to “The Whisperer,” who is serving a life sentence for committing multiple child murders in the past, but someone appears to be imitating him, and now they will need his help—and that of the police officer who put him behind bars, who happens to be the grandfather of Jake, the missing boy.

Un thriller muy intrigante y atrapante de entrada. Puedo decir que me terminó enganchando rápidamente, aunque tiene sus partes más lentas por momentos. Es una buena opción para ver algo del estilo y dejarse atrapar un rato por esta trama de misterios y crímenes que descubrir. Es curioso porque la historia también mezcla un poco de elementos paranormales, como la niña que ve Jake y que su padre piensa que es su amiga imaginaria, pero luego demuestra ser otra cosa que termina por ayudar al niño a sobrevivir.

A very intriguing and gripping thriller right from the start. I can say it had me hooked right away, even though it does have some slower moments here and there. It’s a good choice if you want to watch something in this genre and get swept up for a while in this plot full of mysteries and crimes to unravel. It’s interesting because the story also mixes in a few paranormal elements, like the little girl Jake sees—whom his father thinks is his imaginary friend—but who later turns out to be something else entirely and ends up helping the boy survive.

Pienso que la idea del hombre que susurra fue bastante ingeniosa, aunque me parecio que no estuvo bien ejecutada al no saber el motivo real por el que cometía esos asesinatos. Esto lo descubrimos más tarde, pero aún así hubiera estado bueno saber los motivos de antemano. Aunque también debo decir que me resultó algo predecible porque descubrí quién estaba detrás de los nuevos secuestros y asesinatos de niños de inmediato que dieron una pista, y sí, luego lo confirme. Era muy obvio. Lo que me sorprendió es saber que el policía retirado que lo encarceló en su momento justo es el abuelo del último niño desaparecido.

I think the idea of the “whispering man” was pretty clever, although I felt it wasn’t executed well because we didn’t know the real reason he was committing those murders. We find that out later, but it still would have been nice to know his motives beforehand. Although I also have to say that I found it somewhat predictable because I figured out who was behind the new kidnappings and murders of children as soon as they dropped a clue—and yes, I later confirmed it. It was very obvious. What surprised me was learning that the retired police officer who had put him behind bars back then is actually the grandfather of the last missing child.

Esto último no creo que fuera apropósito en sí, sino que el modus operandi del hombre que susurra es la de secuestrar niños que no son felices y por ende son más vulnerables a ser manipulados por desconocidos que le susurran justo aquello que necesitan oír. Jake estaba pasando por un periodo muy triste al perder a su madre y quería sentirse más comprendido por su padre. Así que era una víctima fácil para este tipo de psicópata.

I don't think the latter was intentional in and of itself, but rather that the “whispering man's” modus operandi is to kidnap children who are unhappy and therefore more vulnerable to being manipulated by strangers who whisper exactly what they need to hear. Jake was going through a very sad time after losing his mother and wanted his father to understand him better. So he was an easy victim for this kind of psychopath.

No sé si me convenció tanto el final, no le vi el sentido a dejar que el condenado original hiciera eso que siempre quiso hacer, y se vio privado, por lo que se desquito con otros niños. La verdad fue una parte confusa. No quiero entrar en detalles por los spoilers, pero si la viste creo que sabes de qué estoy hablando. Literalmente le dieron vía libre para cometer ese último acto. En fin.

I'm not sure if the ending really convinced me—I didn't see the point in letting the original convict do what he'd always wanted to do but was prevented from doing, so he took it out on other kids. Honestly, that part was confusing. I don't want to go into details because of spoilers, but if you've seen it, I think you know what I'm talking about. They literally gave him free rein to commit that final act. Oh well.

Pero bueno, la verdad es que me gustó la película. Me dio intriga y misterio, hubo buenos actores y la trama me resultó interesante, aunque predecible, y el final estuvo un poco flojo. Igual me dio más de lo que esperaba, así que quedé conforme con lo que me mostró. Si no la viste, te la recomiendo, puede resultarte entretenida como para pasar el rato.

But anyway, the truth is that I liked the movie. It had intrigue and mystery, the actors were good, and I found the plot interesting—even if it was predictable—though the ending was a little weak. Still, it gave me more than I expected, so I was satisfied with what it had to offer. If you haven't seen it, I recommend it; you might find it entertaining enough to pass the time.
