🎬 Movie Review: The Wrong Paris [ES/EN]

¡Hola amigos! Hoy me paso por acá para contarles que por fin revivieron las romcom. Así que les traigo la reseña de la nueva película de Netflix que lo hizo posible: El otro París.

En esta historia conoceremos a Dawn, una chica pueblerina que se encarga de su abuela, sus hermanas y de la granja donde viven. Pero ella aspira a conocer el mundo y su sueño es estudiar arte en la universidad de París. La vida le sonríe cuando recibe la carta de admisión, pero no le darán una beca y no puede costear los gastos. Así que su hermana la convence para que se anote a un reality show que sucede en París donde un montón de chicas competirán para ganar el corazón de un millonario que las puede ir eliminando de a una hasta quedarse con la que le guste y ahí se hará la pregunta final, la chica puede elegir si quedarse con la miel o el dinero. Parece una idea descabellada, pero es la única forma que tiene de costear el pasaje a París con el único plan de hacer todo lo posible para ser eliminada y cobrar parte del dinero que le corresponde para sus estudios.
¿Qué podría salir mal?

In this story, we meet Dawn, a small-town girl who takes care of her grandmother, her sisters, and the farm where they live. But she aspires to see the world, and her dream is to study art at the University of Paris. Life smiles on her when she receives her acceptance letter, but she won't be given a scholarship and can't afford the expenses. So her sister convinces her to sign up for a reality show in Paris where a bunch of girls will compete to win the heart of a millionaire who can eliminate them one by one until he is left with the one he likes, and then he will ask the final question: the girl can choose between love or money. It seems like a crazy idea, but it's the only way she can afford the trip to Paris, with the sole plan of doing everything possible to be eliminated and collect part of the money she is entitled to for her studies.

De verdad siento que es lo mejorcito que vi estos últimos meses en cuanto a comedias románticas porque sí, acá tenemos romance, comedia y, dato no menor, nadie se está muriendo de ninguna enfermedad. Además me dio vibras similares a un libro que leí hace un montón donde la protagonista competía con otras chicas para ganarse el corazón del príncipe en una especie de reality de la realeza. Ese no era el cometido, ella también quería el dinero que iba a obtener durante el espectáculo para darle una mejor calidad de vida a su familia, pero se imaginaran cómo termino todo jajaja. Igual que en este caso.

I truly feel that this is the best romantic comedy I've seen in recent months because, yes, we have romance, comedy, and, not insignificantly, no one is dying of any disease. It also gave me vibes similar to a book I read a long time ago where the protagonist competed with other girls to win the prince's heart in a kind of royal reality show. That wasn't her goal, though; she also wanted the money she would earn during the show to give her family a better quality of life, but you can imagine how it all ended, ha ha ha. Just like in this case.

Pero esto no es todo, la película transcurre en un escenario campestre al mejor estilo cowboy y eso me encanto. Nada como un pueblito remoto llamado París donde la protagonista tiene una meta clara, pero el corazón hace lo que quiere y ahí sucede la magia. Y los planes pueden verse alterados. Además tenemos caballos y animales de granja adorables, sin contar con el hermoso paisaje silvestre que le da el toque.

But that's not all. The film is set in a cowboy-style rural setting, which I loved. There's nothing like a remote little town called Paris, where the protagonist has a clear goal, but her heart does what it wants, and that's where the magic happens. And plans can be altered. We also have horses and adorable farm animals, not to mention the beautiful wilderness that adds the finishing touch.

Me pareció una película muy divertida, con el toque justo de escenas absurdas, de verdad me reí con ruido esta vez. Y el romance me encantó, sentí que los dos protagonistas tenían una linda química. Me gustó mucho cómo se fue dando su relación, no es algo que surgió de la noche a la mañana, pero tampoco se sintió forzado. Tuvo todo lo que tenía que tener en su medida justa, hasta una pizca de dramatismo hacia el final donde no se sabía qué era lo que iba a pasar.

I thought it was a very funny movie, with just the right amount of absurd scenes. I really laughed out loud this time. And I loved the romance; I felt that the two main characters had great chemistry. I really liked how their relationship developed; it wasn't something that happened overnight, but it didn't feel forced either. It had everything it needed in just the right measure, even a touch of drama towards the end where you didn't know what was going to happen.

Una de mis partes favoritas fueron las de los créditos finales, así que si la ven quédense hasta los créditos que también tienen su magia. Sentí que hace tiempo no veía una película de este estilo que me diera todo lo que prometía y todo lo que espero de una romcom. Por lo que si son fans del género como yo, esta película les encantará.

One of my favorite parts was the end credits, so if you watch it, stick around until the credits roll—they have their own magic too. I felt like it had been a long time since I'd seen a movie like this that delivered everything it promised and everything I expect from a romcom. So if you're a fan of the genre like me, you'll love this movie.

También me gustaron los personajes secundarios, cada uno le aporta lo suyo a esta producción. Con esto no estoy diciendo que sea una obra maestra ni mucho menos, pero es una película que se deja ver, es linda, divertida, no te hace llorar y se siente bien verla. Eso ya es un montón con todos los fiascos que estuve viendo en cuanto a este género últimamente. Así qué está más que recomendada por mi parte.

I also liked the supporting characters, each of whom brings something unique to this production. I'm not saying it's a masterpiece, far from it, but it's a film that's easy to watch, it's cute, it's funny, it doesn't make you cry, and it feels good to watch. That's a lot considering all the flops I've been seeing in this genre lately. So, I highly recommend it.
