¡Hola amigos! Hoy les traigo la reseña de una serie que tenía muchas ganas de ver, aunque no soy fan de esta temática en particular, pero fue un gran descubrimiento. Les estoy hablando de Off Campus.

Hi, everyone! Today I'm bringing you a review of a series I've been really looking forward to watching—even though I'm not usually a fan of this particular genre, it turned out to be a great discovery. I'm talking about Off Campus.

Esta historia se centra en unos jóvenes universitarios. Hannah Wells es una chica que ama la música y es muy buena estudiante. De eso se da cuenta Garrett Graham, el capitán del equipo de Hockey de la universidad, que necesita aprobar una materia para que lo dejen jugar. Así que hacen un trato con Hannah de que ella lo va a ayudar a estudiar y a cambio él fingirá ser su novio para darle celos al joven músico del que está interesada ella. Sin tener en cuenta que al pasar tiempo juntos y entrar en el mundo de ambos empezará a nacer una atracción verdadera entre los dos.

This story centers on a group of college students. Hannah Wells is a girl who loves music and is a very good student. Garrett Graham, the captain of the college hockey team, notices this; he needs to pass a class in order to be allowed to play. So they make a deal with Hannah: she’ll help him study, and in exchange, he’ll pretend to be her boyfriend to make the young musician she’s interested in jealous. Little do they know that as they spend time together and get to know each other’s worlds, a genuine attraction will begin to blossom between them.

No le tenía tanta fe a esta serie porque me imaginé que sería otra historia más de romance universitario mezclado con deportes, lo que en el mundo literario se conoce como un sport romance, y no soy fan de este trope. Pero me equivoque totalmente, es una serie increíble, súper madura y con cero toxicidad, lo que termina sorprendiendo por su temática. Quedé muy satisfecha con esta producción, me cerro la boca, tal cual. Además, tengo que destacar lo adictiva que es, yo la empecé a medianoche después de ver una película y quería seguir viendo algo más, así que me dije que iba a ver qué onda con la serie y cuando me quise dar cuenta iba por el capítulo 4. Se me pasó rapidísimo, es muy cautivadora la historia.

I didn't have high hopes for this series because I figured it would be just another college romance mixed with sports—what's known in the literary world as a “sport romance”—and I'm not a fan of that trope. But I was completely wrong; it's an incredible series, super mature, and completely free of toxicity, which is actually surprising given its subject matter. I was very satisfied with this production—it really blew me away, plain and simple. Also, I have to point out how addictive it is. I started watching it at midnight after seeing a movie, and I wanted to keep watching something else, so I told myself I’d check out the show—and before I knew it, I was on episode 4. It flew by so fast; the story is really captivating.

Voy a ser honesta, la historia es interesante por sí sola, pero también ayudó la química de los personajes, la increíble elección de los actores y la musicalización. No hay una sola cosa que no me haya gustado de la serie, es más, quisiera que tuviera más capítulos porque me dejó con muchas ganas de seguir. Quiero conocer la historia de todo el equipo de hockey, y de esa increíble pareja secundaria que ya tendrá su tiempo de brillar porque también se robaron la pantalla, acá Allie y Dean. Adoré la relación que surgió entre Hannah y Garrett, todo muy cuidado y respetuoso, desde el cariño genuino y el apoyo mutuo cuando ambos lo necesitaron, sin juzgarse o hacerse la vida imposible. También me gustó la hermandad que había entre los compañeros de equipo.

I'll be honest, the story is interesting on its own, but the chemistry between the characters, the incredible casting, and the soundtrack also helped. There isn’t a single thing I didn’t like about the series—in fact, I wish it had more episodes because it left me wanting more. I want to learn the stories of the entire hockey team, and of that incredible secondary couple who will surely have their time to shine because they also stole the show—Allie and Dean. I loved the relationship that developed between Hannah and Garrett—it was so thoughtful and respectful, filled with genuine affection and mutual support when they both needed it, without judging each other or making life difficult for one another. I also liked the camaraderie among the teammates.

Me sorprendió lo sana que fue la serie en todos los sentidos, y lo mal pensada que fui en algunas escenas varias veces, no paso nada de lo que me imaginaba. Eso me hizo pensar en que tengo quemada la cabeza con otras producciones y espere más peleas sin sentido, celos desmedidos o que alguien fuera un poco egoísta y no paso. Un aplauso por eso. Sí, realmente a esta altura hay que agradecerlo. Por supuesto que hay escenas subidas de tono y bastante picante, pero todo muy cuidado, y hasta un tanto cómico.

I was surprised by how wholesome the series was in every way, and by how prurient my mind was during certain scenes—nothing like what I’d imagined actually happened. That made me realize that I’d been conditioned by other shows, and I’d expected more senseless fights, excessive jealousy, or someone being a bit selfish—but none of that happened. Kudos for that. Yes, at this point, we really have to be grateful for it. Of course, there are risqué and quite steamy scenes, but everything is handled very carefully—and even a bit comically.

Este es un comentario muy de colegiala, pero quedé enamorada de estos chicos de hockey, el mejor equipo, y eso que no tengo idea de este deporte. También adoré a Allie, la mejor amiga de Hannah y la hermosa amistad que tienen a pesar de que son bastantes diferentes. De alguna manera, todos encajan entre sí.

This is such a teenage girl thing to say, but I fell in love with these hockey guys—the best team ever—even though I don't know anything about the sport. I also loved Allie, Hannah's best friend, and the beautiful friendship they share even though they're so different. Somehow, they all just click.

La serie también trata temas duros como la violencia física, el maltrato psicológico y la violación. En mi opinión, siento que estuvo bien tratado, aunque no sentí que fuera lo central de la trama, sino el punto de conflicto en sí. Pero al final la trama es de superación, de sanar y seguir adelante, de darse una segunda oportunidad y apoyarte en los tuyos. Nos recuerda que nada más importa, no hay que dejar que el pasado nos defina, las cicatrices también pueden ser bellas.

The series also tackles difficult topics such as physical violence, emotional abuse, and rape. In my opinion, I feel these topics were handled well, although I didn’t feel they were the central focus of the plot—rather, they were the source of conflict itself. But ultimately, the story is about overcoming adversity, healing, and moving forward—about giving yourself a second chance and leaning on your loved ones. It reminds us that nothing else matters; we mustn’t let the past define us, and that scars can also be beautiful.
