Breathe (2024) || Movie Review.

Watching a near-futuristic sci-fi film is an interesting thing to do for me. I love them, they are entertaining and they explore the dark sides of humanity. So I came across this movie a week ago and I was eager to watch the movie immediately. The cast on board was the specific reason I chose to watch this movie. However, the outlook of the movie is not attractive, but I decided to see this movie without any good performance expectations.

’Breathe (2024)’ is a near-futuristic sci-fi thriller that was directed by Stefon Bristol, written by Doug Simon. This movie centers around when the world becomes inhabitable because of low oxygen levels. To survive, humans have to breathe with a specialized breathing instrument. This movie starred Jennifer Hudson, Milla Jovovich, Quvenzhané Wallis
Common and Sam Worthington.

The movie started by introducing us to Darius, an engineer who built a survival bunker for his family and constructed a generation that regulates oxygen levels for his family to breathe and live without the assistance of the specialized breathing device. Darius one day went out with his father to bring back things they might need in the bunker when accidentally his father was trapped in the ceiling which destroyed his breathing device causing him to die.

The next day Darius decided to go give his father a proper burial. He left without his Daughter and wife. Expecting that Darius would return home by nightfall, his family began to worry. Few hours turned into days, days into months Darius didn't return back to the bunker. His wife, Maya went out to look for him but didn't find him.

A couple of months later as Darius' family continued to survive in his absence, they received an unexpected visitor claiming that they knew Darius and they would like to get into the bunker to copy the oxygen generator blueprint for a remake in their survival unit. However, these visitors turned out to be people with a selfish agenda. Will Maya and her daughter survive this phase?

My Review And Rating.

The impression this movie left me with at the end was that of confusion. This movie is a survive near-futuristic sci-fi but in the end it turned to be a house invasion sci-fi film. I don't know what went wrong along the way during the production but it was obvious that the production crew went off course.

The plot was too generic, predictable, except for weak twist and mystery that was inserted in the third act. The characters were not well developed. There a lot of loopholes throughout the whole movie. Missing backstories, missing sub-plots and missing suspense. I had lots of questions about the plot, like what led to the depreciation of oxygen level in the world? How the oxygen generator constructed by Darius?

Also, in relation to the plot, the ending was weak, rush and I think the ending was thought of during film. There was no creative to it and it was impactful nor didn't it leave a sense of unforgettable impression.

The cast for this movie went to waste. An exceptional cast for generic sci-fi movie. I was disappointed watching these amazing actors perform their best to make the worth the watch but in the end there was a big gap which made it all obvious that the amazing cast were not used to their full potential.

The only good thing about this movie that made it manageable to watch was the cinematography, CGI, the editor’s skill, the visual and the sound. The camera work was done properly, the light exposure were perfect and the post damage world was excellently portrayed I will give them that.

Rating this movie, I will give 4 out of 10 stars. I wouldn't recommend that avid fans/lovers of sci-fi should watch this movie. This movie is a forgettable one with no impactful impressions. It wasn't that entertaining because the action was dull and bland.

Although I haven't seen Jovovich for a long time and I was looking forward to seeing her again in these roles she usually plays, I'll take your opinion into account since you usually express your tastes very similar to mine.

With your review you helped me to definitely not see it, I'm a fan of Milla Jovovich but the plot flaws you mention are disappointing, no wonder IMDb gave it 3.7/10.

Honestly, this was the first time that IMDb ratings were accurate. I love Milla Jovovich too. I appreciate your comment and time here.
