When I heard that the ’Road House (1989)’ was going to be remade, I was excited to see what they would do with it. I remember watching the 1989 version back then with so much excitement and it gave me an unforgettable experience that sometimes I still have flashbacks from the movie. Even though it was a B-class action film, the movie still entertained the targeted audience even when they didn't take the movie seriously. For me, I think it was one of Patrick Swayze's best works. It was a good solid action movie from the 80’s.

Now, the remake is out there but I think it was for the audience because the harsh and negative reviews were something else. I don't know what people expect from the remake, but I think they expected an action movie that is not decent and with a lot of unrealistic fighting scenes. I bet that would've hit right on the spot.

It's a pity that people have completely lost the ability to just sit back, shut their brain off and just enjoy a good old decent action movie. Not everything has to be the regular ”phew, phew, phew”. I am getting tired of that because of how unrealistic it is most of the time and it's exhausting. We need a little bit of Tango, Commando, Kick-boxer, Rambo, Predator and so on.

’Road House (2024)’is an action film that was directed by Doug Liman and screenplay written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry. This movie is the remake of the 1989 movie of the same title. It was also distributed by Amazon MGM Studios. It starred Jake Gyllenhaal, Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Joaquim de Almeida and Conor McGregor.

The plot of the movie is according to the 1989 original that revolves around a former UFC middleweight fighter Elwood Dalton who earns a living by fighting underground and scamming the fighters. Until one night, he was approached by a young woman, Frankie who begs him to come work for as a bouncer in her roadhouse which is in the Florida Keys community of Glass Key. Dalton wasn't interested at first but after his sucide attempt, he takes Frankie up on her job offer.

Dalton gets Glass Key town and befriends Charlie, a teenager who runs a bookstore with her father and later that day into the night, he officially starts his job as a bouncer. Dalton wards off a gang of bikers who were destroying the Roadhouse properties. It doesn't go in a civilized manner as Dalton ends up brutally injuring the men and driving them to the hospital to get treatment.

Dalton thought the problem had been sorted out, but what he didn't know was that the biker men were all goons for the notorious local crime boss Ben Brandt. Will Dalton survive the fall back? Or will he pack his bags and go away like the others before him?

My Review And Rating.

This film is a movie that doesn't take itself seriously but obviously the audience took it seriously, hence all the harsh reviews. ’Road House (2024)’ is highly meant to entertain. The tone is mostly light-hearted but still there were some few moments of seriousness which was mostly demonstrated by the lead actor Jake Gyllenhaal.

The plot was well written with a simple tone and mood. The story was easy to follow as I was watching it. I got hooked right from the beginning, it has a good and engaging start. Then right from the start, it begins to spiral from intriguing to funny, light-hearted, electrifying then ends with a thrilling and satisfying energy. Though, there were a few potholes here and there, but it still wasn't obvious.

The cast was an amazing and entertaining one. I loved and enjoyed all their sense of humor. Jake Gyllenhaal was great with his role. He gave a phenomenal performance. He was a mixture of someone relaxed, chill, and carefree, but at the same time one could read from his eyes that he can be ruthless. Then we have Conor McGregor who is a very bad villain that is resilient and persistent. I enjoyed his role and his humor. He acted like some psycho bastard who doesn't have an off switch and he was a FORMIDABLE foe for Dalton.

Billy Magnussen acted his role well as the spoiled rich son of a local crime boss. He was exactly what he was meant to be and also he was funny. Then finally, Daniela Melchior who acted as the love interest for Dalton. For me, I wish they'd explored their part more since the movie itself was alright full of profanity, nudity, violence, and a little bit of blood. So that shouldn't have stopped them from exploring this part. She performed well except there was no chemistry between her and Jake.

The scene arrangements were fantastic, the action scenes were portrayed especially the fighting scenes. Then I realized that some punches were, I think close to being real because of how they focus on letting us see the hit. I don't know how they did that but I felt the impact. The cinematography was cool and ambient. All the humor didn't seem forced.

Rating this movie, I will give it a good 8 out 10 stars. It was a good movie, it was funny, not that serious, entertaining and finally it was thrilling. I had a good time when I saw this movie.

To be honest, I was actually emotionally down before I saw the movie. After I did, I couldn't remember why I was down in the first place. So set aside the negative reviews and go see this movie if you haven't.
