Marvel Studios Becoming A Disappointment?

Marvel Studios are becoming the carcass of their former glory as their script writers and directors water down all their superhero characters. I have been reluctant to watch Thor: Love and Thunder for a while now because I was contemplating if it was going to be interesting or not because of the trailer. When I look back to the old Marvel movies like five years ago, those movies were the real Marvel movies for me. Now, it all has been watered down in a disappointing way.

Thor:Love and Thunder is the fourth sequel to Thor's franchise. I will not lie but I was expecting so much more, considering how the previous sequels were. After I watched it, I was disappointed and crushed by Thor's character and I wonder how a strong character like Thor could become a joke. At the start of the first sequel of Thor, he was portrayed as the god of thunder, feared, admired and his hammer can't be used by anyone, but now Thor's hammer can be used by kids and anyone walking down streets could pick up his hammer and become Thor, son of Odin.

Everything that made Thor's characters special and unique has been watered down and turned into a joke. Now I say Thor as a joker and can't be taken seriously in the upcoming sequels to come in the future. Marvel is crashing, but they don't see or feel it because they are still being shielded with their former glory and fame.

Thor: Love and Thunder is an American superhero movie based on Marvel Comics. It is the sequel to Thor: Ragnarok which was released in 2017. This movie was released on June 23, 2022, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios. Love and Thunder stars, Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tessa Thompson, Christian Bale, Jaimie Alexander, and some other actors that might be familiar to you. This movie was also directed by Taika Waititi who also co-wrote the script of the movie with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.

Speaking about the synopsis of the movie, Thor: Love and Thunder are majorly about how Thor, in the middle of his mid-life crisis tries to find what his purpose is and how he was going to move on in life. But then, the movie starts with a man, Gorr, who was stranded in a dry, deserted land with his daughter, Love. Being the last of their race, Gorr prayed desperately to their god (Tapu) to save Love, but no prayers were answered. Love dies and Gorr becomes devastated in grief and pain. In his state of mind, a sword that can kill any god called The Necrosword called to him and led him to Rapu's forever green realm/forest.

Gorr told Rapu of how he had suffered, prayed to him, and how his daughter, Love, had died. But all that Gorr said seems to be of no concern to Rapu as he mocked him for being insignificant to his existence. In anger, Gorr renounced Rapu as his god and in turn, he gets maltreated by Rapu. The Necrosword chose Gorr, he then kills Rapu with it and then vows to kill all the gods that existed. Gorr was then granted the power to manipulate monsters in the shadow and given control of the shadow world.

Thor on the other hand was battling with his midlife crisis as he travels around the universe after he joined the Guardians of the Galaxy after stepping down as the king of Asgard. Thor receives a distress signal from Sif who fought beside him back in Asgard and Thor departs from the Guardians of the Galaxy ship to journey to the new Asgard where Sif warns that Gorr the god butcher was coming for Asgard.

While Thor was with his people, Gorr came to New Asgard with his shadow monsters. Thor joined in defending the city and the people. Then he discovered that he was fighting alongside Jane Forster, his ex-girlfriend who is now the new Thor-wielding Mjolnir (the hammer). Jane Forster became the new Thor when she went to the city of New Asgardians seeking healing because she had been diagnosed with a stage four terminal cancer disease.

Gorr used the opportunity when Thor was distracted by Jane to abduct all the children of the Asgardians and takes them away to the shadow world. Thor learning of where they were through the ability of Heimdall's son, set out with Jane, Valkyrie, and Korg to the omnipotence City to warn other gods and also ask for their help in defeating Gorr. Their plans failed, and Thor couldn't convince the other gods. What happens to the children of Asgard, will Gorr use them for his bidding? You have to watch the movie to know what happens.

My Opinion About The Movie And Rating.

Truly, Thor: Love and Thunder is an enjoyable film, no denying that, but in many ways a mockery of Thor's character. This movie was annoying to me in every way except for the Villain (Gorr) who played his role as he is meant to. The duration of the movie which was meant to be an hour and a half was stretched out ridiculously to two freaking hours. I was expecting Marvel to give Thor a dark, and unforgettable finish to his character here, but no, he was ridiculed and turned into a joker. I mean Thor was the one who defeated the Frost Giants, saved the nine realms, and defeated the Dark elves, and also he was the only one among the Avengers who came close to killing Thanos in Avengers:Infinity War (2018), he deserved better.

Let's talk about the performance of the Villain (Gorr). Christian Bale did well with his performance and his role was the only role I took seriously. With his performance as the villain (god-killing monster), he wasn't portrayed properly the way he should have been portrayed. His scenes were rushed, and underdeveloped, and his power to kill gods was not portrayed well.

Then up to Jane Forster, her fighting skills were too fine-tuned even though she got the power of Thor recently. I mean I couldn't wrap my head around that change quickly. She was almost at par with Thor and is it supposed to be like that? I was almost thinking she was stronger than Thor himself. Let's talk about the Goats. The director did a terrible job with the Screaming Goat, I mean why the noisy goats? The goats made me angry that I wondered if there were any other quiet magical creatures the director would have used instead of the goats. The goats made the movie noisy and barely could one hear some of what the actors said during the scenes.

Let's talk about the dialogue, plot, and language. The dialogue is not developed well, it was too sprung out that it became uninteresting and blatantly boring. The plot was dull with lots of flaws and potholes. The characters were underused, ridiculed, and incompetent. The Romance also was rushed, there was no spark between Jane and Thor. The emotional impact was absent. Talking about the language, there was more swearing, and nudity than what we have seen before in the Thor franchise.

If I continue to talk more about the flaws in this movie, this post will be lengthy. My final thoughts, Marvel movies these days feel like quantity over quality. They keep producing movies and TV shows within a short period of time and watering down their quality and characters. Rating this movie, I will give it a 4 out of 10. I was disappointed and unimpressed with it. It pissed me off. I hope you enjoy watching the movie if you haven't.

I feel like Marvel films have always been more glitter than anything. I can't really find a golden age but I enjoy certain elements of certain movies...Doctor Strange and his psychedelic moments, Thor's ridiculousness, Wakanda, and Natalie Portman (my high school crush)!

I agree totally with you on this and to top it up, negative critics with low ratings are all hidden. Wakanda is also my best Marvel movie and also, I enjoyed Doctor Strange. Waiting for next sequel 😊.

Being a marvel fan from years it is really disappointing to see marvel ruining these characters and films.

Not Gonna Lie, Disney involvement in marvel is like Warner bros involvement in DC but Disney literally make villains or heros look weird or cheap. PG 16!

Was disappointed to see Thor love and thunders but can hope Phase Five will revive marvel once again like after end Game or Spiderman NWM ain't watched anything Good.

Well, Anyways "The Boys" is only Good thing happened to marvel and phase 5!

Let's see how marvel will really do in the future!

You said it all with this. Disney involvement with Marvel bred ridiculousness and involvement of kids into superhero characters.

Like you said, let hope phase five brings us joy and something good to talk about for a long time. 'The Boys' is an amazing Marvel TV show I am enjoying for now. The rest, I see no why they were produced into series in the first place.

Thank you for visiting and supporting my blog. I appreciate your comment. Have a fantastic day ahead 😊.

As far as Disney is involved I ain't expecting any masterpiece by marvel. They really need a refresh button > Hulk few years ago was like Super dope and now like a Kid and also other superheros.

Hopefully phase five will be great comeback for marvel.

Hehe, yea it is and have watched all 3 seasons of the boys ~ waiting for 4th one.

You welcome. Really Glad someone talked about Marvel here. Have a fantastic day ahead to you too!

In short: Yes.

Although Thor was a mess, a lot of the poor decisions taken in that movie were a direct consequence of the state of the modern MCU as a whole.

It's sad, the concept of Love and Thunder wasn't really that bad.

avatar

Agree with you. Alot of poor decisions. I think I will stick the former MCU 😅. The modern MCU not working for me..

Of course love and Thunder story wasn't that bad. Hence why it was watchable.. Thank you for the visit and comment. I appreciate it.

I saw the movie recently in the theater, but it seems to me that MARVEL is now a complete maze. I'll stick with phase 1, 2, 3. Infinity gems was a great saga.

Thor meets the love of his life again, that earthly woman Jane Foster, never to be torn from his heart, who was a great help to him in this battle.

Greetings my companion

An annoying maze 😂! Exactly phase 1,2,3 are they really Marvel that took them years of preparation to produce. Those are the gems.

That's a well written review! In my opinion since the end of Avengers series, every other movie/series after that has been 'unlike' Marvel except for the Spider-Man sequel.

I had downloaded this movie and was looking forward to watching. Now I'll just watch it flimsily 😛. !LADY !PIMP

avatar

Hahaha oh don't watch it that way lol. Because of Thor, just enjoy it until the goats piss you off. But there is still hope for Marvel, for when they begin their phase 5. I hope they regain their glory then.

Thank you so much for tips and your comment here. I appreciate it. Have a great day ahead. 😊

It's hard to debate these points because Marvel seems to be trying to appeal to a much broader audience now and this strategy is taking its toll. Quality is slowly dropping off a cliff it seems.

avatar

It's appealing to new audience that really didn't have a taste of Marvel back in the first phase.. But let's see what more Marvel has in install for us.

Thank you for the visit. I appreciate your comment and support. Have a wonderful day ahead. 😊

Facts watched this movie last week and I was truly disappointed how could anyone pick up thor's hammer used by even kids wow am truly disappointed in marvel. They are really messing up I hope they don't end up like DC

Gotta agree on the argument of marvel being quantity over quality, at this point in time, they are cheeky and sure of success, so by doing quantity of "mid level films" they expect to earn more than a few digits quality films as they would have done before end game for example.
