Misjudged! Nefarious (2023) || Movie Review.

This movie took a different route that I didn't expect. I thought this movie was going to be the same thing I have seen so many times in horror movies, but no it wasn't. It was actually about the basics of good, evil and religion. However, something baffles me about this movie which is the critics and reviews. The critics and reviews were negative and harsh which made a lot of people not see this movie thereby, shadow-banning the movie. In my opinion, this movie was misjudged and was not given a chance to make it in the theater.

Nefarious (2023) is not an ordinary movie but it is a movie that comes with a plot that is enriched with a lot of knowledge and facts. You know, they always say knowledge is power and sometimes when we don't have knowledge about something, it's a weakness that might lead to mistakes someday. Having knowledge makes one enlightened and powerful.

The producers of this movie contributed to the negative and harsh reviews this movie got from its viewers. The producers of this movie categorized this movie in the horror genre, making people already expect gore, strong language, bloody scenes and so on. However, that was not the case because at the end a lot of the audience were very disappointed and their expectations brought down. I felt the same way too at the end of the movie.

Nefarious (2023) is actually a psychological thriller and Christian based movie not a horror film. This movie is based on Steve Deace's book titled, 'A Nefarious Plot' which was published in 2016. It was also written and directed by Chuck Konzelman and Cary Solomon. The story of the movie revolves around Edward Brad (Sean Patrick Flanery) who was convicted of six or more murders on death-row and claims to be a demon. To be executed, the government has to evaluate him psychically to know if he would be fit for the execution. It starred Sean Patrick Flanery, Jordan Belfi, Tom Ohmer and Glenn Beck.

Little About The Synopsis.

At the state prison, a psychiatrist Dr. James Martin goes to evaluate a vicious serial killer Edward Brady who is on death-row to know if he will be fit for execution. Dr. Martin's duty is to report back to the government with a valid and professional evaluation of Edward. However, Dr Martin was replacing Edward's former psychiatrist who committed suicide a day earlier. Getting to the prison, he meets the warden, Tom who specifically warned him about the deceitful ways Edward uses to control his psychiatrists and then they end up killing themselves.

Not appreciating Tom's warning, Martin says, he is professional and he is very good at his job, so Tom won't dictate to him how he does his Job. With that state of prideful mind, Dr Martin goes to see Edward and he introduces himself as his psychiatrist. The evaluation started but things got intense when Edward introduced himself to Martin as a demon. He also assured Martin that he was going to commit three murders before the end of their session.

Martin brushed off his words and insisted that he was there to evaluate Edward to know if he was fit for execution. Laughing hysterically, Edward assured him that was not the case and that he had other plans for Martin. Who is Martin evaluating? Who is the psychiatrist here now? Is it Edward or Martin?

My Review And Rating.

This movie is not for everyone to watch, but I highly recommend it because it puts viewers' personal values and beliefs to test. It makes the viewers reevaluate their own conceptions of what is right and wrong as a result of the difficult ethical issues it provokes. In general, it is a deep thought-provoking movie that unravels a lot of misconceptions about faith and what you already think you know.

Also, the story of this movie explored a lot of themes that deal with human nature and how we all struggle with the scale of good and evil coupled with choices we all make in terms of the moral aspect in life. It is a very controversial and sensitive movie. If you are not ready to believe the truth, accept the truth and also think about some of the choices you have made in life, DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE because it will just aggravate you instead.

Some of the themes this movie explored are; morality, belief, manipulation, blasphemy, truth about abortion, insanity, nature of good and evil, power, the power of suggestions and stages of possession. All these themes were widely explored in this movie with good instances, scenarios and examples to back it up. Like I said, if you are not ready to face the truth and actually evaluate yourself don't watch this movie because it will be a waste of time at the end for you.

I must commend the writers of the movie because they did a fantastic job of exploring every possible detail of the truth. The script was written in a unique way and the dialogues were amazing and engaging. The tension in this movie was psychological. It was well portrayed by the two main characters. It is also one of the things that kept me engaged in this movie. There were also twists to the story that made the viewers want to keep watching till the end.

Let's talk about the star of this movie, Edward (Sean Patrick Flanery). This man did an excellent job with his role. He was able to maintain two strong characters, Edward and the Demon. His transition between the two characters was so fantastic that I hardly noticed that a character transition happened. He is an amazing actor, I will give him that compliment. He was the star and spotlight of the movie even though Dr Martin (Jordan Belfi) was not that good with his role.

The scene arrangements were good, the cinematography was excellently done and also the cinematic atmosphere was done to perfectly fit the tone and mood of the story of this movie. The storytelling was amazing and engaging. The only flaw of this movie was the incorrect genre category. It is a Christian psychological thriller not horror.

Rating this movie, I will give 4.5 out of 5 stars. It is an amazing movie that everyone needs to watch if you are ready to be challenged about your ideas, concepts and beliefs. If you haven't seen it yet, you should soon. I highly recommend this movie to be watched.

Hola amiga @esther-emmanuel

Today we matched the movie for our publication. I liked this movie too much, went to see it expecting horror, exorcism, special effects and I have received a great movie, with a great performance by Sean Patrick and a great script.

I put it in my top 3 possession movies, dethroning Hereditary.

I liked your post 👍
