The Family Plan 2?!

To be honest, I didn't expect that this movie would have a sequel. For me, the initial sequel was good and the ending was well resolved. However around middle of 2025, I began to see the trailer of Family Plan 2 circulating all around. I saw it and immediately I wasn't impressed just because of one actor that I saw in the trailer, but then I wouldn't want to miss Mark Wahlberg’s movie. No.

The Family Plan 2 is an action comedy mixed with Christmas theme. It was partly produced by Mark Wahlberg alongside Apple studios and Skydance media. It was directed by Simon Cellan Jones and written by David Coggeshall. It starred all the major actors from the previous sequel and with some additional actors like Kit Harington and Sidse Babett Knudsen with some others.

This sequel is set three years after the initial sequel. Now we see Dan Morgan and his family have gone through a lot of changes that come with life in general. Nina is in college now, Kyle is preparing to go to college, and Max (baby of the house) is no longer a toddler. Also, Dan now has his own private security company and his wife Jessica just got a major breakthrough in her career. Everything seems to have been going well for all the Morgans. The question is, can an ex-elite government assassin’s life be without chaos?

Now, I am beginning to wonder what is going to happen next so that I can know the The Family Plan needed a sequel.

It's almost Christmas, Dan is to check the bank's security system as an opportunity to take his family to see Nina at school.

After so much grumbling from his family, they all agree to make the trip to London to see Nina. As they got there, the Morgans met Nina’s boyfriend Omar freshly out of the shower, but Dan was displeased. Nina made the introductions and they all got to meet each other. Afterwards, Dan, his family and Omar went out to a park to have some family time.

Not long, Dan goes to carry out his job task which was the main reason why he was in London. As he got there, things changed in a space of minutes. Dan encountered his younger half brother Fin there. Fin threatened to kill his wife if he didn't perform a heist with him to steal a deposit box with a digital key. What is Fin’s plan for the Morgans?

My Review And Rating.

This sequel should have been good but a lot of things contributed to its failure. It is not a worthy sequel to the initial installment in my own opinion. Don't get me wrong, this movie was a fun watch for me and I enjoyed it. However, this movie’s last impression didn't stick with me. All I kept doing was having good flashbacks of the initial sequel.

The cast of this movie performed well no doubt. The main characters reprised their roles well and I was able to connect with them. Except for Fin (Harington). He didn't perform his villain role well. His performance was weak, and it was like I was watching a nickelodeon villian. I didn't sign up for that. In the initial sequel Dan's father was a worthy villain who was enigmatic but in the end his unveiling was satisfying. I wish Kit wasn't used for his role. He is just there all in glamour but no substance. He pissed me off, throughout the whole movie. Then I got reminded why I didn't like him as an actor to begin with. It all began with GOT. To make the matter worse, his appearance in the movie added more fuel to my dislike of him.

Another reason why this movie failed as a good sequel is because producers tried to ride on the success of the previous sequel, forgetting what made it successful at first. The previous sequel was a mix of good comedy and action but this sequel is a serious straightforward action. The witty mannerism of some characters was absent especially for Mark.

Also, the plot was written well, but its substance was absent. Despite the Christmas aesthetic, the little comedy included in the dialogues fell flat, the action scenes weak like that of an amateur and no fresh solid character. The supposed villain wasn't fueled with rage, jealousy, he wasn't vengeful enough, and not ambitious. It was like he came into the picture to play with them. I thought he would give Dan a tougher time than his father did. Shame. He knows nothing.

Rating this movie, I will give it 5 out 10 stars. This was a painful rating and the sequel was not necessary. Although it would have had potential if the villain aspect and the comedy aspect was fully explored. I hope there is no other sequel because that would be a disaster.

Girl I am just as surprised seeing it has one!

These people ruin things for us by coming up with a sequel after a good movie. lol. The first part ended quite well so what’s the need for a sequel if not greed? Anyway, as long as Mark is in it, who am I to complain?😂

Lovely review btw
