Nosferatu (2024) || Movie Review.

Watching a movie is not just all about the storyline, actors, setting or the choreography, it is also about the performance of each other actor as they play their roles. I guess that why theater plays are still in demand up till date. I love movies that portray pure performance; I mean performance that comes from the gut. That is the beauty of art itself.
Nosferatu (2024) is gothic horror film that was written and directed by Robert Eggers. It is based on and a remake of Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror by Henrik Galeen which was inspired by the classic Bram Stoker's novel Dracula. This movie’s budget was around $50 million and the money made from the box office was around $181.3 million. I think this an success if you ask me.
Nosferatu starred quite a handful of amazing actors and actresses suchk as Lily-Rose Depp, Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin and Willem Dafoe. It was distributed by Universal Pictures and Focus Features.

The storyline of this movie is about a young girl, Ellen who prays out into the universe for a companion to ease her loneliness. However, unknown to her, she unconsciously contacts a powerful being of darkness, a vampire known as Nosferatu. This prayer of hers woke Nosferatu from a long time slumber and a psychic link was forged between both of them.

Some years passed and In 1838, Ellen had newly gotten married to Thomas Hutter and they both settled down in Wisburg, Germany. As a newly wed couple, they were supposed to honeymoon phase, but then a job offer from Hutter’s employer came in. His employer sent him to Transylvania to the Grünewald Manor to the Count Orlok.

So Hutter had no option than to leave his Ellen with a friend, Friedrich Harding, his pregnant wife Anna and their two daughters. However, Hutter is unaware that he is about to encounter an evil being that wants his wife for himself. Will Hutternsurvive the journey? Did his employer set up?
My Review And Rating.
Nosferatu is a movie that is filled with performance from the soul and it makes you wonder what passion and zeal the actors all have to put out such a performance.
This movie is a masterpiece for me and Egger once again did not disappoint with his directorial style of this movie. What made this movie stand out for me was the meticulous arrangements of the setting, CGI, camera work/angles, directorial style, the cast performance, the outlook and the costumes. What Egger did here is something most directors in Hollywood lack when doing their work. Egger didn't restrict himself in a box, he didn't manage funds, rather he explored out of the box and he used the large budget for this movie judiciously.
I love the lavish, gothic set design. It gave off the vibe of eerie and dreamlike nature with a cold and muted color palette. This mood wraps one up and pulls you into the world building without stress. Some of the viewers that had issues with the dark and moody settings are people who are not conversant or appreciate the work put into gothic settings.
The cinematography was satisfying and fantastic! I enjoyed it and so much work was put into achieving the mood of the movie. The sweeping camera shots that made it look as if the audience were Nosferatu. Giving us the feel of omnipresent from thebworld building, its characters and the town itself. The closeups are amazing too.
Lily-Rose Depp’s performance was theatrical and amazing. I guess it runs in the family. I especially love how she was able to portray when the psychic link between her and Nosferatu got stronger. It was convincing and very believable. I think she poured her soul into it. Although I wish there was more to her story. I wanted to know why she was lonely at first. I wanted to know what made her special to be able to form a psychic link with a being of darkness just from mere words/wishes.
Bill Skarsgard was honestly not recognizable in this movie. At first I thought I'd been deceived because I didn't notice him throughout the movie. It was after I'd finished watching the movie that I discovered that Skarsgård was the Count Orlock. Under those costumes I didn't know it was him. The accent also did it for me. His performance was amazing and Nicholas Hoult didn't disappoint me either.
Rating this movie, I will give it 8.5 out of 10 stars. It's not a movie I will forget soon. I love it and I enjoyed it. I would recommend this movie to gothic lovers and horror lovers. Have you seen this movie? How was it for you?
