Not Relatable! Greenland 2: Migration (2025) || Movie Review.

Greenland 2?!
I thought the movie Greenland 2020 was a forgotten project. However, it was resurrected. I didn't expect to see a sequel from this movie because I feel the initial installment ended averagely well and the fact that it took 6 years to come up with another sequel.
Regardless of my intuition telling this sequel might be a disappointment, I still decided to watch it. Most of you who engage frequently with reviews know that Gerald Butler is one of my favourite actors and I am a fan of his works. So I saw this movie because of the lead actor and I was curious as to what the storyline entails.
Greenland 2: Migration is a post-apocalyptic film that was directed by Ric Roman Waugh and written by Chris Sparling and Mitchell LaFortune. It is the sequel to Greenland 2020 and it was distributed by Lionsgate. It majorly starred Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin and Roman Griffin Davis. However, other supporting characters like Amber Rose Revah, William Abadie with some others were featured.

Greenland 2: Migration was set around five years after the first sequel when Clarke interstellar comet destroyed most of the Earth and killed off over 90% percent of the population. So this sequel was right after five years when the incident happened. From the beginning of the movie, we were meant to understand that the bunker which the Garritys escaped and made it to at the end of the first sequel has now become unstable due to sudden earthquakes from the electromagnetic storms. Also to make matters worse, the air in some places on earth is not breathable due to radiation.

Not long, the bunker collapsed from the impact of an earthquake causing an emergency evacuation. John and his family were able to escape. Afterwards, the Garritys, Dr. Amina and some others escaped on a lifeboat which they barely made it to with some of the survivors from the bunker while the others perished with the tsunami. Eventually, they made it to Liverpool and in the course of looking for shelter, some of the survivors with them were shot and killed. I gasped here. Okay, let 's keep going.

On the other hand, John's aim was to make sure that his family got the Clarke crater. As it is known that the Clarke now has turned into the garden of eden, which permits the survival of life permanently. The air is breathable, and the water there is drinkable. How did that happen? Why didn't another storm destroy the place? Did John and family make it to the Clarke?
My Review And Rating.
This is a controversial movie that a small percentage of the audience enjoyed while a quite large percentage of the audience didn't enjoy it at all. For me, it was an average performance. Before I saw the movie I knew it was not going to impress me rather will it meet my expectations, but I still watched regardless.
The movie started so well that I was on the edge of my seat when they were all running for their lives trying to get to safety. The tension was there, the human desperation for survival was there, and then we saw how humans are fragile against the strength of natural disasters. Watching those scenes makes me come to the conclusion that we humans are what is wrong with this planet.
The pace was okay, not fast nor was it too slow. It was just right. The scene arrangements were hmm okay which made the storyline of the movie easy to follow and straightforward. There is no suspense or mystery.
As the movie progressed I started to realise that it was becoming like I was watching a game of survival because The Garritys began to survive all manner of bad disasters happening around them while the characters around them were killed off like rag dolls. Instead of giving a little attention to side characters, they were killed off quickly as if they had no value to the plot.
Also, their son Nathan was a character I tried to have a connection with but it was not possible due to his dull performance and the weird questions he asked all throughout the movie. Honestly, I was annoyed with his performance. From the movie you would notice that Gerald was at a time wearing a WTF face. When he asked one of his weird questions. I was beginning to wonder where the producers got him from.
What made the movie’s storyline fail was the fact that the life challenges that happen during a disaster or a post-apocalyptic event were not appropriately conveyed or portrayed. This mishap made the whole plot not believable, convincing, realistic or relatable. I couldn't connect with the characters, the plot and the setting. It seemed like I was watching an unrealistic movie. Also, the end would have been heartwrenching and impactful if the lead was not already dying from a lung disease.
Rating this movie, I will give it 4.8 out 10 stars. I wasn't impressed with this sequel. I wish the sequel was not produced in the first place. Many things went wrong with this sequel. It was a messy job. It failed in a lot of aspects. Is it the storyline, relevance of characters, convincing story, and narrative technique, all terrible!. I guess the writer ran out of ideas.
