Movie review: Cuando acecha la maldad / When evil lurks
Hello, Hive friends! Today's recommendation is for horror lovers. “When Evil Lurks” is a very good Argentine film that I saw highly recommended by viewers from various countries on social media. The truth is that it didn't disappoint me. Although I'm very critical of this genre, it surprised me in a good way. I highly recommend it.

The film begins when two brothers living in the countryside hear a series of gunshots in the night. The next day, they go out to investigate what happened. On their journey, they discover a corpse, which leads them to some neighbors, where they discover that one of them has been infected by a demon. The demon uses his body as a vessel until it is born. It cannot be touched or killed, lest it release the evil and infect another person, so the characters are faced with a dilemma. It has a very effective “boddy horror” that leaves the viewer disturbed by the impressive images shown. It's something I hadn't seen before and it surprised me. The characters' sense of fear and despair is unmatched.
La película comienza cuando dos hermanos, que viven en el campo, escuchan una serie de tiros en la noche. Al día siguiente salen a investigar qué fue lo que ocurrió. En esa travesía descubren un cadáver, que los lleva hasta unos vecinos, donde descubren que uno de ellos ha sido infectado por un demonio. Este usa su cuerpo como envase hasta nacer. No puede ser tocado ni matado, para no liberar el mal y que infecte a otra persona; por lo que el dilema comienza a verse en los personajes. Tiene un “boddie horror” muy efectivo que hace que el espectador quede perturbado por las imágenes impresionantes que se muestran. Y es algo que no había visto antes y que me sorprendió. La sensación de miedo y desesperación de los personajes es inigualable.
When other neighbors find out and discover that the police knew and are not going to do anything, they decide to move the infected man elsewhere. Then both brothers go to the village to alert the family to what is happening, without much success. They unwittingly spread the evil and everything gets out of control. There are some disturbing images involving children, so I must warn you that if you are sensitive, you should skip them.
Cuando otros vecinos se enteran y descubren que la policía sabía y no va a hacer nada, deciden trasladar al hombre infectado a otro lado. Luego ambos hermanos van al pueblo para alertar a la familia de lo que ocurre, sin mucho éxito. Sin querer esparcen el mal y todo se sale de control. Hay imágenes tan perturbadoras que involucran a niños, que debo advertir que si sos sensible las pases por alto.
The desperate attempts of the two brothers to neutralize evil and counteract the horror they have spread are hampered by demons that explore the deepest fears of human beings, constantly driving them to commit horrific acts. The characters are very well developed and, in my opinion, excellent. What they suffer, the good and bad decisions they make, everything makes sense and has a tremendous psychology of horror. There's a reason why it's the most watched Argentine horror movie in history. If you haven't seen it yet, you can't miss it.
Los intentos desesperados de los dos hermanos para neutralizar el mal y contrarrestar el horror que han esparcido se ven obstaculizados por los demonios que exploran los miedos más profundos del ser humano, llevándolos en todo momento a cometer actos horribles. Los personajes están muy bien desarrollados y, en mi opinión, son excelentes. Lo que sufren, las buenas y malas decisiones que toman, todo tiene un sentido y una psicología del horror tremenda. Por algo es la película de terror argentina más vista de la historia. Si todavía no la has visto, no te la podés perder.
