The end titles for the Beatles started on the 10th of April, when Paul McCartney stated in the papers that he is quitting thw Beatles. But that was just a statement for an event that had already happened.

The Beatles seemed to have already disbanded during rehearsals and recordings of what was to be the last album of their joint career, Let it be

Ladies and gentlemen, our journey in the musical history of

The Beatles

through the movies continues

Let it be (1969)

In January 1969 the band assembled to record songs for the album with the working title "Get Back". The whole project was filmed with the aim, as was McCartney's idea, of showing the film (documentary) at the same time as the release of the new album.

The director was Michael Lindsay-Hogg, who chose to remain a silent observer of what everyone thought would be the process of creating an album, but in reality it was the recording of the last joint moments of the Beatles. Nerves and tensions were evident in the studio, Harrison - the Beatles' quiet power had "fought" with McCartney and left for a few days, John was busy with Yoko and the record he was preparing and the whole situation smelled of gunpowder.
Lindsay-Hogg had many hours of filming that didn't used in his project, the documentary "Let it be" on which Peter Jackson's "The Beatles: Get Back" was based on.

The Beatles: Get back (2019)

Peter Jackson used all this archive footage that still existed in the possession of Apple, the company that had signed with the Beatles then. Due to the quantity of the material, Jackson created an eight-hour documentary that had to cut it into three episodes in order to make it easier for someone to watch (No matter how much you loved the Beatles it isn't easy to watch 8 hours film continuously!).

The image and sound were restored and the film is now one of the most important archival monuments in the history of the Beatles. Among others, we can see the four guys who due to the pressure of time, (to record an entire album in twenty days and prepare for a live show) have tensions, disagreements, quarrels, but also moments of laughter and relaxation during their time together.

We can see Harrison getting the recognition he deserved as a song writer (I love "I, me, mine"), Ringo playing the playful but quiet, John and Yoko being in love,.. From this it seems, in my opinion, that the reasons that led to the dissolution were not the obvious ones that we all suspected or even whispered Peter Jackson breathed new life into the Beatles.

And we owe it to him for the restored copy of their last joint appearance on the rooftop of the Apple building.

The complete dissolution came in the 1970s with the court a year later laying the gravestone on the Beatles. Each member had started their own project and any idea of re-establishing the group was eliminated on December 8, 1980 with the assassination of John Lennon by Dave Chapman. The remaining members collaborated individually on other projects, but nothing was the same as before.

Many films were inspired by the Beatles. Some even were produced by them. Did you know George Harrison had mortgaged his own house to produce "Life of Brian"? Or that Ringo Starr starred in many movies? Even Paul McCartney played roles, apart from himself in 1980s...

The Rutles (1978)

Eric Idle (of Monty Pythons) created for a sketch a group-parody for the Beatles, the Rutles. The made up group was a sucess, causing him to even make a mockumentary about them with the witty title "All you need is Cash" (you can see the irony)

As a closure for this post, I want to showcase two of my favourite Beatle-themed movies...

Across the universe (2007)

A film full of Beatles music starting from Liverpool, where the Beatles started, too, to end up in America of the 1960s and the social issues that occupied young people at the time. The peace movement, the Vietnam War, free love are presented through the Beatles songs with a great Jim Sturgess, along with the rest of the cast to sing and take us to the atmosphere of the time.

Yesterday (2019)

But the second movie is what our life would be like without the Beatles songs. How would it feel if we had never heard "Yesterday" or "Eleanor Rigby"? Or how we would feel if instead of "Hey Jude" we had "Hey, Dude".Yesterday narrates the opportunity for an unemployed musician who is the only that remembers Beatles and their songs and uses them to make a career. But music and love is above all.

Bonus scene: the moment he searches for what happened to the Beatles and finds Lennon alive, without anyone threatening him.

That's all folks! That was Beatles' history through the movies.

No more words from me. Let's just hear their music and remember the "Fab Four"

Thank you for reading!

Excellent the documentary of Peter Jackson, a very clear and sharp image and a spectacular sound, I saw it in the biggest TV I own and with a Home Theater at full volume, Across the Universe I like it very much and in it Bono of U2 acts. Yesterday is a very nice movie, where love triumphs over all things, and I recommend another movie, which is a guilty pleasure: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band features Aerosmith, Billy Preston, Peter Frampton, The BeeGees, Alice Cooper and Earth, Wind and Fire among others. Greetings.

Great post, I'll run to read the first part!

Thank you for stopping by. Hope to enjoy part one, too.
I believe this kind of music must be heard loud, too. So I am kind of jealous of your viewing with a home theater set. 😆
I didn' t remember that Alice Cooper was in Sgt. Pepper' s film.
Thanks for reminding me.

Cheers!

The part of Peter Jackson's Get Back that moves me to the verge of tears is when Paul McCartney creates, out of thin air, the song that gives the film its title.

It's a beautiful moment where we can see before us the creative process of a true artist, who not only relies on his sheer talent, but who strives and works to achieve a work of art... even strumming the bass as if it were a guitar! Here there were no excuses, it wasn't the perfect moment (the working environment was horrible), it wasn't the ideal tool, but a great song was composed.

You are right. You can see at that moment the creativity that these persons had. It was a eye opening documentary from many aspects.
