Andrzej Zulawski's "Possession" is arguably the creepiest film I've seen, but with it one of the most beautiful.

"Possession" is the relationship of a man and a woman is bizarrely crossed through the prism of black magic and politics. And these things, if you think about it, are not that far apart.
The apotheosis of horror blooms at the end - the theme of doubles and substitution of the living by the dead, which leads to the apocalypse, is important here.

Isabelle Adjani performs an aria of ritual hysteria, a primitively beautiful witch, fondled from the inside by a tenderly beloved creature. The triumph of the Adjani game is witchcraft convulsions in the subway crossing. The creature from "Possession" can be understood literally or metaphorically, as the fruit of an unhealthy relationship, a sick female psyche, the fantasies of a jealous man, or can be the product of geopolitical chaos.

The context of the Cold War plays a prominent role in the film, the action takes place under the shadow of the Berlin Wall, and the main character himself is associated with the special services. Zulawski, who fled to France from party censorship, combined his erotic, marital and political frustrations, giving rise to a monster that is mistakenly referred to as horror films. Yes, this is a horror film, but it is much more than a horror film.
