Cuando se anunció esta serie muchos no esperaban nada ya que su creador era Seth Mcfarlane quien es más conocido por crear Family Guy y American Dad, los primeros episodios parecían darle la razón ya que la comedia no ayudaba mucho y era difícil empatizar con los personajes, pero en cierto punto la serie encontró su rumbo. Fue un viaje largo y dudoso que visto en retrospectiva se puede ver que así funciona una serie de televisión, tomarse su tiempo y construir una buena historia al establecer las reglas que regirán la trama sin importar el tiempo que tome.

The Orville tuvo la suerte de poder acumular una audiencia lo suficientemente grande que les permitiera seguir avanzando aunque pareciera que el producto no era confiable. La ciencia ficción es un género que permite colar mensajes filosóficos y reflexivos que pueden servir como paralelismo o critica a el mundo real, también puede tomar interacciones humanas simples y exagerarlas de una manera que sea graciosa y a la vez interesante y eso es algo que Seth Mcfarlane supo aprovechar con esta serie, como un planeta que se rige mediante el horóscopo, otro dónde las redes sociales deciden si son buenas o malas personas o incluso una raza donde las separaciones matrimoniales se vuelven peleas a muerte.

También logran equilibrar la seriedad y la comedia, primero te hacen reír con cualquier rareza como un robot que quiere entender cómo prepararse para una cita o un alien gelatinoso y lujurioso, pero luego te muestran a una raza que buscan conquistar el universo porque según ellos así lo indica su religión o también una raza de una población principalmente masculina que subestima a las mujeres, son todos estos elementos que hacen a esta serie tan llamativa y atrapante. Esta serie paso de regular a notable gracias a como se va desarrollando su trama y personajes a lo largo de los episodios, no busca ser pretenciosa no dejar una huella sino ser una serie que sea entretenida.

Esta serie está muy inspirada en Star Trek, las similitudes son imposibles de ignorar, pero este show tampoco es un plagio, también se puede ver que este programa no buscaba ser oscuro y serio sino que decidió aprovechar todos los elementos que proporciona la ciencia ficción y hasta usar una mejor iluminación, de esta manera obtuvimos un programa que no es ni demasiado serio pero que tampoco es ridículo. También sabe aprovechar el formato episódico, permitiendo que se pueda ver la historia desde cualquier punto y luego aventurarse con la historia completa.

Como ya dije antes cada personaje es muy carismático lo que hace muy fácil interesarse en cada uno de ellos, el universo de la serie está muy bien construido y dan deseos de recorrerlo y explorarlo con la tripulación del Orville, me he vuelto muy fan de esta serie y considero que la deben ver tanto fans como no tan fans de la ciencia ficción.

When this series was announced many did not expect anything since its creator was Seth Mcfarlane who is best known for creating Family Guy and American Dad, the first episodes seemed to prove him right since the comedy did not help much and it was difficult to empathize with the characters, but at a certain point the series found its way. It was a long and dubious journey that seen in retrospect one can see that this is how a TV series works, taking its time and building a good story by establishing the rules that will govern the plot no matter how long it takes.

The Orville was fortunate enough to be able to amass a large enough audience that allowed them to keep moving forward even though it seemed like the product was unreliable. Science fiction is a genre that allows for philosophical and reflective messages that can serve as a parallel or criticism of the real world, it can also take simple human interactions and exaggerate them in a way that is both funny and interesting and that is something that Seth Mcfarlane knew how to take advantage of with this series, such as a planet that is ruled by the horoscope, another where social networks decide whether they are good or bad people or even a race where marital separations become fights to the death.

They also manage to balance seriousness and comedy, first they make you laugh with any oddity such as a robot who wants to understand how to prepare for a date or a gelatinous and lustful alien, but then they show you a race that seeks to conquer the universe because according to them so indicates their religion or also a race of a mainly male population that underestimates women, are all these elements that make this series so striking and catching. This series went from regular to remarkable thanks to how it develops its plot and characters throughout the episodes, it does not seek to be pretentious, not to leave a mark but to be a series that is entertaining.

This series is very inspired by Star Trek, the similarities are impossible to ignore, but this show is not a plagiarism, you can also see that this program did not seek to be dark and serious but decided to take advantage of all the elements provided by science fiction and even use better lighting, thus we got a program that is neither too serious but not ridiculous. It also knows how to take advantage of the episodic format, allowing you to see the story from any point and then venture into the full story.

As I said before each character is very charismatic which makes it very easy to be interested in each of them, the universe of the series is very well built and makes you want to explore it with the crew of the Orville, I have become a big fan of this series and I think it should be seen by both fans and not so big fans of science fiction.
