Twelve men in struggle or the best movie to learn logic, at least that is what I consider after having seen this movie and that precisely this subject has been one of my favorites in the first two years of my university career. It can be said that logic is the branch of philosophy that studies the principles of valid argumentation, detecting fallacies, paradoxes and other elements that can be found in a discourse, whether oral or written, so that what logic tries to do is to build a study that is useful in obtaining a notion of truth.

Now, I have not come to give a class on logic, but what I intend to do in this opportunity is to tell you how this film, released in the 50's, is for me one of the best films to learn logic. Undoubtedly, the length of the film is a master class on how to argue.

The plot of the film would be as a jury of twelve men, debate the guilt or innocence of a young man who has been accused of first degree murder, and to make the case even more delicate, the victim has been the father, the accused. And although everything indicates a "clear guilt", this jury in an interesting way decides to stop and review the case carefully, since it is in their hands the life of a young man, who although he seems to be guilty, they consider that he deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Basically, the film takes place in a single room, so in terms of the film's production, there was no need for a large investment in props or different sets. What is truly enriching about the film is the skill that the screenwriters have had in crafting a masterfully impeccable discourse. We are talking about the construction of twelve main characters, since they all have the same scope in making the decision, that is, twelve speeches not only coherent with each other to drive the film, but also coherent with each character.

The hour and a half that lasts this installment are very worthwhile, in fact, I must confess that I have already seen this film about 4 times, as I love logic, I feel that this film is a jewel, I must say that it is a film that requires much attention to detail, and not precisely visual details, but argumentative details.

By the way, there is a detail that I forgot to mention, it is a black and white film, although if you noticed the year of release you will have already deduced it. Something that I liked from the first time I saw this film, was that it made me reflect on how I would do in a situation like that, how I would act if I had the opportunity to sentence a person to death for a crime he committed. Because, that's something interesting (extremely interesting), the decision that these twelve men will make will or will not lead to the young man's death.

If you are wondering what the verdict was, what conclusion they came to, these twelve men should watch the movie and find out for themselves. If you get caught up enough in the film, it will change the way you think, you will no longer make judgments about facts lightly.

I hope you are encouraged to watch this movie. See you next time...

VERSIÓN EN ESPAÑOL

Doce hombres en pugna

Doce_hombres_sin_piedad-205973530-large.jpg

Saludos

I am not one to find films all about logic quite entertaining. I would only see them for the purpose of learning something I had never thought about before.

I am now curios to what basis and fundamentals these certain twelve men will construct their verdict upon.

Your desription of the movie sure make me want to consider it. Nice one.
