Greetings friends of Hive, this time I wanted to participate in this great contest to which we are invited in this community. Without further ado, let's go to the point of focus, I want to share with you two of my favorite TV series. On the one hand I will tell you about "Challenge on Fire" and "CSI: Las Vegas". I must admit that I'm not a big TV watcher, but if a series catches me enough, I won't stop watching it even if they broadcast a repeated episode.

Before telling you about these series I want to make it clear that what I will say next will be my personal appreciation and that any data that can be googled will be ignored, that is to say, my intention is not to give you a list of TV series*, but to tell you why they are my favorite series, why I watch them tirelessly, etc.

Let's go with the first of the series, let's talk about

Forged in Fire

Broadcast by "The History Channel" and still on air, totaling 9 seasons, and if I remember well, on air since 2016 or 2017 is one of my favorite series of all time, as I have already told you I am not a voracious consumer of tv shows, but there are always a couple that catch me, and in this case what is it that caught me of Desafío sobre fuego? The first thing I could say is that it managed to persuade me, I think it was its dynamic way of being, we are talking about a blacksmith competition where 4 blacksmiths compete to be the winner and win 10 thousand dollars. The really cool thing is how they compete for the prize, something characteristic of the series is that each chapter has a surprise, the competitions are never the same. This makes it a challenge for the participants, but in principle there are certain general rules within the competition. There are three rounds, in each round one of the competitors is eliminated and in the third and last round the champion is chosen.

The first round basically consists of forging, according to the specifications of the judges, a knife blade with its tang, but without hilt and even without edge. The second round consists of finishing the weapon, placing the hilt and sharpening the edge, then at the end of the second round, the blades (knives) of the three remaining contestants are put to the test and the one with the most imperfections or with the most damage is withdrawn from the competition. The third round of the competition takes place, and it is most interesting because it consists of replicating a historical weapon and that is something incredible, because the competitors reveal the complexity of the task of forging such weapons even with today's technology, I have wondered how the hell did the blacksmiths hundreds of years ago to forge such weapons?

In this third round the final two competitors have a 5 day time span to replicate the proposed weapon, and when the time is up. They return to the smithy, where the judges will test the weapons. There are three tests, the first one of resistance where the hardness and resistance of the weapon presented will be tested. The second, the sharpness test where it will be verified how sharp the weapon is, even after the first test that can sometimes compromise the integrity of the weapon's edge. And finally the lethality test, by many the favorite, since one of the judges tests the lethality of the weapon after the first two tests, using a human figure built in ballistic gel, I must point out that the test dummy is made as I said of ballistic gel but has a replica of the human bone system and organs that we have, so that when the weapon is rammed against the dummy we can imagine how the weapon could damage a human being and it is terrifying.

The finalist is decided by the weapon that performed the best in the three tests, the winning forger takes home $10,000. I admit that, when I started watching this show years ago, I knew nothing about blacksmithing, but today I at least know the terms necessary to understand many things regarding the forging of bladed weapons, and in a joking way I can admit that I am a theoretical forger (laughs), although that is not feasible, sometimes I make jokes about it.

Now, let's go to the second of my favorite series, this one is no longer on the air. It was only on the air between 2002 and 2012. I am talking about nothing more and nothing less than:

CSI: Las Vegas

I watched this series about twice, with a very different theme from the previous series. This series was my favorite at the time when I was watching crime series, and this one was my favorite because it had a lot of science background in addition to the crime stuff.

Its name CSI comes from the acronym that stands for "CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION", basically it was about solving crimes and murders that occurred in the city of Las Vegas, but this series as I said included the scientific in an exceptional way, starting with one of its protagonists (the head of the forensic investigation corps) who was an entomologist, but his knowledge in the area of science was wide using every possible scientific resource in favor of justice. I remember that each chapter was a different crime and was solved in a different way, in truth the series had an interesting plot, because although the center was the resolution of crimes also addressed the personal processes of each character and each of them had a story that somehow or other touched you as a viewer.

Another thing that really caught my attention in this series was that they gave real scientific data, and as I always liked to learn new things, I tried not to miss any chapter of the series and I even think I saw 80% of the series twice. I remember that at that time my mom used to tell me: "Son, don't you get tired of watching it again" I told my mom that no, I liked it, even though I already knew the outcome, there were details that I wanted to see again, to learn scientific data.

As I said, I'm not much of a TV watcher, now less with the streaming platforms, but sometimes in my free time I turn on the TV and if when I flip through the channels I realize that they are showing an episode of this series, I swear I stop to watch it.

Saludos amigos de Hive, en esta oportunidad he deseado participar en este genial concurso al que se nos invita en esta comunidad. Sin más preámbulo vamos al punto de enfoque, les quiero compartir sobre dos de mis series de televisión favoritas. Por un lado les comentaré sobre “Desafío sobre Fuego” y “CSI: Las Vegas”. Debo admitir que no soy de mucho ver televisión, pero sí una serie me atrapa lo suficiente, no dejo de verla incluso si llegasen a transmitir algún capítulo repetido.

Antes de comentarles sobre estás series quiero dejar en claro que, lo que diré a continuación será mi apreciación personal y que cualquier dato que pueda ser googleado lo pasaré por alto, es decir, mi intención no es hacerles un recuento de las series de TV*, sino contarles ¿Por qué son de mis series favoritas?, ¿Por qué les veo incansablemente?, etc.

Vamos con la primera de las series, hablemos de

Desafío sobre Fuego

Transmitida por “The History Channel” y aún en emisión, sumando 9 temporadas, y si recuerdo bien, en emisión desde el año 2016 o 2017 es de mis series favoritas de todos los tiempos, como ya les he comentado no soy un voraz consumidor de programas de tv, pero siempre hay un par que me atrapan, y en este caso ¿Qué es lo que me atrapó de Desafío sobre fuego? Lo primero que podría decir es que me logró persuadir creo que ha sido su dinámico modo de ser, hablamos de una competencia de herrería dónde 4 herreros compiten por ser el ganador y llevarse 10 mil Dólares. Lo verdaderamente genial es el cómo compiten por el premio, algo característico de la serie es que cada capítulo tiene algo sorpresa, jamás son iguales las competencias. Haciendo todo un desafío para los participantes, pero en principio hay ciertas reglas generales dentro de la competición. Son tres rondas, en cada ronda se elimina a uno de los competidores y en la tercera y última ronda se escoge al campeón.

La primera ronda consiste básicamente en forjar según las especificaciones de los jueces en esa ocasión una hoja de cuchillo con su espiga, pero sin empuñadura y hasta sin filo. Ya que la segunda ronda consiste en terminar el arma, colocarle su empuñadura y perfilar el filo, luego al finalizar la segunda ronda, las hojas (cuchillos) de los tres concursantes que quedan son puestas a prueba y la que tenga más imperfecciones o salga con más daño, se retira de la competencia. Dando lugar la tercera ronda de la competición, y es de lo más interesante porque consiste en replicar alguna arma histórica y eso es algo increíble, porque los competidores develan lo complejo de la tarea de forjar tales armas incluso con la tecnología que hay hoy, yo me he preguntado ¿Como rayos hacían los herreros hace cientos de años para forjar semejantes armas?

En esta tercera ronda los dos competidores finales tienen un lapso de tiempo de 5 días para replicar el arma propuesta, y al terminar el tiempo. Vuelven a la herrería, donde los jueces pondrán a prueba las armas. Son tres pruebas, la primera de resistencia donde se pondrá a prueba la dureza y resistencia del arma presentada. La segunda, la prueba de filo donde se verificará que tan afilada es el arma, aun después de la primera prueba que a veces puede comprometer la integridad del filo del arma. Y por último la prueba de letalidad, por muchos la favorita ya que uno de los jueces, somete a prueba la letalidad del arma después de las primeras dos pruebas, usando una figura humana construida en gel balístico, debo acotar que el maniquí de prueba, está hecho como dije de gel balístico pero posee una réplica del sistema óseo humano y de los órganos que poseemos, de manera que al embestir el arma contra el maniquí nos podemos imaginar cómo podría dañar el arma a un ser humano y es aterrador.

El finalista se decide por el arma que tuvo un mejor desempeño en las tres pruebas, el forjador ganador se lleva a casa 10 mil dólares. Admito que, cuando comencé a ver este programa hace años, no sabía nada de herrería, pero hoy por lo menos sé de los términos necesarios para comprender muchas cosas con respecto a la forja de armas blancas, y de manera jocosa puedo admitir que soy un forjador teórico (risas), aunque eso no sea viable, a veces hago bromas al respecto.

Ahora bien, vamos con la segunda de mis series favoritas, esta si que ya no sigue en emisión. Ya que solo estuvo en emisión entre los años 2002 y 2012. Les hablo nada más y nada menos que de:

CSI: Las Vegas

Esta serie la vi como dos veces, de temática muy diferente a la serie anterior. Esta serie fue mi favorita en la época que vivía viendo series policiacas, y esta era mi favorita porque además de lo policiaco tenía un gran bagaje científico.

Su nombre CSI viene de las siglas que significa “CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION”, básicamente se trataba de resolver crímenes y asesinatos que ocurrían en la ciudad de las vegas, pero esta serie como dije incluía lo científico de manera excepcional, comenzando por uno de sus protagonistas (el jefe del cuerpo de investigación forense) que era entomólogo, peros sus conocimientos en el área de la ciencia era amplios usando cada recurso científico posible en pro de la justicia. Recuerdo que cada capítulo era un crimen diferente y era resuelto de manera diferente, en verdad la serie tenía una trama interesante, porque aunque el centro era la resolución de crímenes también abordaba los procesos personales de cada personaje y cada uno de ellos tenía una historia que de algún modo u otro te tocaba como espectador.

Otra cosa que me llamó mucho la atención de esta serie fue que daban datos científicos reales, y como siempre me ha gustado aprender cosas nuevas, intentaba no perderme ningún capítulo de la serie y hasta creo que vi un 80% de la serie dos veces. Recuerdo que en aquel tiempo mi mamá me decía: “Hijo no te cansas de ver eso repetido” yo le decía a mi mama que no, que me gustaba, aunque ya supiese el desenlace, habían detalles que quería ver otra vez, para aprender datos científicos.

Como ya dije, no soy mucho de ver televisión, ahora menos con las plataformas de streaming, pero a veces en mis ratos libres prendo el Tv y sí al pasar los canales me doy cuenta que están pasando algún capítulo de esta serie, juro que me detengo a mirarlo.
