General Info

Everyone was talking about Cyberpunk and i don't know, maybe i was living under a rock but i did not know that this anime was out yet. Thanks to Hive i discover that the anime was out by a post and the next day i watched every single episode.

The anime is based on a game called Cyberpunk 2077 created by CD Project Red, the same company behind the Witcher. Now together with Netflix, they brought over Cyberpunk to our screens around the globe. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners aired on September 13 of 2022 and has 10 episodes in total.

Plot

In a futuristic city, everyone is obsessed with technology and body modifications. Of course, the city is divided into the parts where the rich live and therefore have the best body modifications parts whereas the poor ones have modifications parts of low quality.

David Martinez is a teen who is enrolled in a prestigious college where apparently the rich ones are there and a bright future is to be certain. In order to manage to get to that college his mom which works a lot of hours for healthcare and also has a side job selling some body modification items that can steal from dead bodies, they have at work and sell to her clients.

So the last item his mother steals is a military body modification part that a few can handle and it's like a mechanical spine that gives you the ability to have advanced speed for some seconds. His mom dies in an accident and David in order to survive transplants this item to himself.

After a while, he meets with a young girl called Lucy who is basically a thief and her gang that does side jobs, like stealing information and stuff for their clients. David begins his journey as part of that gang and we get to see their adventures.

What I Liked and what i Didn't

The first thing i liked was the whole animation. It's a little bit different that what we are used to, especially during battles but it's cool, it's the cheap 3D rip-off that Berserk had for example. Also even though there are only 10 episodes the team behind the animation developed the character and showed both their progress and emotions throughout the series. Most of the fight scenes are good as well as the music that goes with them and the plot progress smoothly.

The negative ones are, that we needed more episodes to further develop the characters because due to the time limit of each episode some of the characters lack in that aspect. Also due to the animation in some fight scenes, you cannot see clearly what's going on. Moreover, if i read correctly Netflix did not want a loli character called Rebecca but CD Project Red insisted and btw we are talking about a pretty awesome character.
