Yesterday i discovered another hidden gem, this time not a movie or a series but an anime. I don't know how this one was under my radar for over a month but the has come or more precisely came yesterday.

Ninja Kamui is an anime that aired on February the 10th of 2024 and in total will have 12 episodes. So far 7 are out and each week and more particularly each Saturday a new episode will be out until the anime is completed. The producer behind it is called Sola Entertainment and is the same people that were behind God of High School and Tower of God. The studio is pretty much a small one, or at least that's what i think, it's called E&H production and it's not actually known for any big hits.

Plot

The plot is pretty straightforward and it should be, as we are talking about an anime with 12 episodes in total. So we got a somewhat futuristic set where basically the story set is around ninjas. Ninjas were used to do their work behind the scenes for Japan, but apparently in order for their leaders to achieve a certain goal they decided to expand to the world, have students that were not Japanese and share their secrets with them.

Some of those people though decided to leave the "clan" as they disagreed with these kinds of plans. All those people were considered to be outcasts and therefore should be eliminated. That's why all of these ex ninjas let's say tried to live a life hiding from the new order of ninjas who is actively searching them in order to kill them.

The protagonist is one of the Ninjas who together with his wife, another ninja live a happy life outside of the big cities along with their kid. Ofc they find them and basically kill them but somehow the husband, called Higan
remains alive. Now Higan is seeking revenge for his family and he tries to take down everyone involved.

Good and Bad

Starting from the good side, the animation is amazing, the fight scenes are out of this world and you never get bored. There are tons of different characters with different kinds of powers and personalities which make the anime even better. I will say it and hate me later, it gave me since episode one Afro Samurai vibes which was freaking awesomeeee!

The only negative thing that i have to say is that in episode 6 and now in episode 7 we were introduced to some suits, like robotic armor that enhance the power of the person wearing it. In regards to that the fight scenes seemed a bit more heavy and dull as now we get to see metal hitting metal and stuff like that which are not my cup of tea, to be honest.

Due to that, i would rate the anime with a 7/10, i would rate with 8 but that mecha stuff are not something that i like, especially in a ninja set. Hopefully, it will get better but who knows. What can i say for certain is that if you are like me you will definitely enjoy the anime! Except blood and gore scenes as well, don't say i didn't warn you!

It looks pretty good, and, although I haven't seen it, I think I could share your opinion about the robotic suits, as it doesn't make sense in a ninja series 😅
