The Fantastic Four: First Steps Movie Review
As always if it's a Marvel or DC film, chances are that i will go to the cinema to watch it. To tell you these past years i have witnessed a slow decline in how many people are watching this kind of movies in cinemas and i think this must happen for various reasons. Marvel and DC have made movies that such bad and people lost faith in them and ofc a lot of people face financial issues these days, even wars.
Moving on to the movie. It was released a while ago it's around 2 hours long. Mat Shakman is the director and this is supposed to be another fresh start for the Fantastic Four franchise, and it is in a way.
Plot
The plot is pretty straightforward. This movie is not about how they got their powers, it fast forwards shows you that in order you have no idea, as some of the enemies and good things the team did. Now they have basically solve all the major issues, beaten down all the major enemies and are considered icons and heroes in their city and the world.
At the same time Reed and Sue wait for their first baby, and Reed starts to be extra careful with everything as he doesn't know whether his child will have powers or not.
Silver Surfer appears out of nowhere and is a woman just because, announcing to everyone that their world will end in a month and that they can't do anything about it. Galactus will be the one who will destroy the planet. Hearing this the team gets ready to find more about Galaktus ending up visiting him.
They realise that he is more powerful than they thought and a tough one to beat. Galaktus mentions that in order to save their world they can offer their child as this will stop his endless hunger, something of they decline. They end up getting back to Earth, announcing the news. Then the people start getting crazy as they prefer to save their son's life instead of billions out there.
With the power of friendship, family and motherhood, Sue ends up bringing the people together just like that, while Reed finds an idea on how to "beat" Galaktus, or basically teleporting him to a world far away.
Good & Bad
I will start with the good things. The actors are doing amazing, the sceneries are quite good as well as the whole vibe which resembles a lot the comics back in the days and how they had in mind the future. Honestly, the vibe was awesome. The fight scenes and graphics were quite good as well.
Now what i didn't like and i will start with the least of my issues and end up with the n1, was first that the Silver Surfer a fan favorite character, was a woman, for no reason at all. Just because. Julia Garner, though is quite a good actor so for someone who doesn't even know who Silver Surfer is, there will be no issue. Then we got the Thing. Good actor, lame CGI and i mean LAMEE, especially the beard thing, extra cringe.
Finally, the plot was something that we were used to in the past years. For some reason it's pretty predictable as they don't take risks. We got freaking Galaktus, with amazing CGI and costumes and acting and such, he doesn't even highlight much of his power and poof out to another world. Lame...
Overall, the movie has a 7.4/10 on IMDB. I would give it a 7/10

I have seen the ads of this movie but I can’t bring myself to watch it for fear it won’t meet up to the standards of the first one and just leave me disappointed.
yeah don't expect anything "bit", it's decent but let's just keep it that way :P
I wasn't a big fan of the main conflict but it was a pretty decent movie.
I specially like the aesthetic and the chemistry between the fantastic family.
Totally agree! and if you go with zero expectations it can't go wrong :P
I kind of agree with you. I know silver surfer has different versions. Even human torch has been a herald of Galactus before. But the main problem is marvel has been leaning a little bit too much into this switching of character lately, and to be honest I think Disney has a big role played in it. I mean... They are known to be good at doing it.
