Action Movie Villains - Bolo Yeung in Bloodspot Acrylic Painting [ENG-ESP]

Hello dear friends of Hive Diy, I hope you are all doing well on this Friday, just as the weekend approaches. Continuing with my series of paintings about memorable villains, today I present my latest drawing. Like the previous painting, I chose a villain from the world of boxing. This time, I chose a memorable villain from the world of martial arts, Mr. Bolo Yeung. He is one of the most iconic villains, a true Final Boss, who faced Jean-Claude Van Damme in two different films. In both, he was a cruel and relentless villain, but one of few words. In this painting, I chose his character, known as Chong Li, from the film Bloodspot, which I believe is the most commercially known. As usual, I made it on a Venezuelan banknote, also using acrylic paint as the main material. Here I briefly explain, step by step, how I did it. I hope you like it.

Hola queridos amigos de Hive Diy espero que se encuentren muy bien en este día de viernes ya en vísperas del fin de semana. Continuando con la serie de pinturas acerca de villanos memorables hoy les presentó mi último dibujo, al igual que la pintura anterior, escogí a un villano del mundo de las peleas de boxeo, en esta oportunidad escogí a un villano memorable del mundo de las artes marciales, al señor Bolo Yeung. Es uno de los villanos más icónicos, un verdadero Final Boss, que se enfrento a Jean Claude Van Damme en dos películas diferentes y en ambos fue un villano cruel e implacable pero de pocas palabras, en esta pintura escogí su personaje conocido como Chong Li, en la película Bloodspot, creo que la más conocida a nivel comercial. Como es costumbre lo he realizado en un billete venezolano y utilizando también pintura acrílica como material principal. Aquí les comento brevemente paso a paso como lo hice, espero les guste.

This time, I chose a somewhat bluish-greenish bill because I wanted the paint to really stand out. Since the face on the bills I'd used in the past was realistic, it took a little more work to achieve this effect, but this background makes it even better. So, I drew Chong Li's silhouette using only pencil, and then I painted the inside with white paint. Then, with the pencil, I began to add every detail of the face until it was complete.

En esta oportunidad escogí un billete de color algo azulado y verdoso porque quería resaltar bien la pintura, al ser un rostro realista en los billetes que usaba anteriormente costaba un poco más de trabajo conseguir este efecto, pero con este fondo si se logra mejor. Así que he dibujado la silueta de Chong Li, unicamente con lápiz y después pinto al interior con pintura blanca, seguidamente con el lápiz comienzo a hacer cada detalle del rostro hasta quedar completado.

I started by painting the skin of the face with a mix of warm colors like red and yellow, with a touch of white to lighten it. So, the skin color will be this warm color, over which I'll then add darker and lighter tones as needed. As you can see, I'm covering most of the entire face.

Comencé pintando la piel del rostro con una mezcla de colores cálidos como el rojo y el amarillo con algo de blanco para aclarar, así que la pase de la piel será este color cálido sobre el cual luego iré agregando tonos más oscuros y tonos más claros según sea el caso. Como pueden observar voy cubriendo la mayor parte de todo el rostro.

You can then see how I've darkened the skin tone on the lower part of the face by adding a larger amount of brown with the white mixture to give a lighter tone, and then gradually add shadows to those areas where the light doesn't reflect much. I'm also painting the visible part of the neck in the same way, adding contrasting light and shadow, playing with the tones to find the best balance and saturation.

Luego pueden observar como en la parte inferior del rostro he oscurecido el tono de la piel agregando color café en mayor cantidad con la mezcla dle blanco para que el tono sea un grado más bajo y así ir agregando sombra en esas zonas donde la luz no refleja mucho. Así también de la misma forma voy pintando la parte visible del cuello, agregando contraste de luces y sombras, jugando son los tonos para encontrar el mejor equilibrio y saturación.

In the next step, I'm adding a little more contrast. I do this by playing with tones. There are brushstrokes where the brown is more predominant, then others where the orange is more predominant, and so I alternate between tones so that the face has volume and proportion. Another important detail is the hair. Before doing this, I put a white base color on the headband that's on the forehead and then paint it after I do the hair. In this part, obviously, I'm using black, but I'm slightly lightened with white so that it looks like a very dark gray.

In the next step, I'm adding a little more contrast. I do this by playing with tones. Another important detail is the hair. Before doing this, I put a white base color on the headband that's on the forehead and then paint it after I do the hair. In this part, obviously, I'm using black, but I'm slightly lightened with white so that it looks like a very dark gray.

Finally, I make the headband that identifies Chong Li as a martial arts warrior in the film Bloodspot. I don't remember if it has the South Korean symbol, since the warriors represent different countries around the world. So I paint it, adding red to the stripes that run along the sides and the small figures in the center. I also go over small details like adding white dots where the light is most intense.

Finalmente hago la cinta que identifica a Chong Li como guerrero de artes marciales en la película BloodSpot. No recuerdo bien si tiene el símbolo de Corea del Sur, ya que los guerreros vienen representando diferentes paises del mundo. Así que la voy pintando poniendo el color rojo en las franjas que van hacia los lados y las pequeñas figuras que se encuentran en el centro. También voy repasando pequeños detalles como poner puntos de color blanco en esas partes donde e ve que la luz es más intensa.

This is how it ended, at which point Chong Li told JVCD's character, "You're next," referring to the fact that he was about to be defeated. It is said that Bloodspot was a true story, about an underground fight where fighters from all over the world met and where someone could lose their lives. Many others claim that it was just a simple invention to generate more hype for the film, and it did succeed, since it was a huge success. I hope you liked this painting; for me it was a pleasure to remember the characters I saw as a child and be able to draw them. Without further ado, I say goodbye, until soon.

Así quedó finalizado, en ese momento Chong Li le decía al personaje de JVCD "Tu eres el siguiente" en referencia a que iba a ser derrotado. Se dice que Bloodspot fue una historia real, acerca de un combate clandestino donde se daban cita peleadores de todo el mundo y donde se podía perder la vida. Muchos otros aseguran que solo fue un simple invento para generar más Hype por la película, y si que lo logro, ya que fue todo un éxito. Espero que les haya gustado esta pintura, para mi ha sido un placer recordar los personajes que veía cuandoe ra niño y poder dibujarlos. Sin más nada que decir, me despido hasta pronto.
