Hello everyone! Welcome back to this space, where I usually discuss not only movies but also things that appeal to me about cinema in general, or curious facts. If you're like me, there's nothing we love more in a movie than that exact moment when your jaw drops, you stare at the screen in silence, and you think, "How could I not have seen that coming?" And that's a great plot twist, something you don't expect to happen, and your world is turned upside down. I've made a selection—perhaps a bit cliché—of what I consider to be the best plot twists in film history. They all shocked me when I first saw them, and many are part of popular culture, so I've included them as well. Here's a brief top ten list, counting down. I hope you enjoy it. Let's begin!

Y eso es un buen giro de guion, algo que no esperas que suceda y tu mundo se voltea de cabeza. Hice una selección, tal vez un poco trillada, de lo que considero son los mejores giros de guion en la historia del cine. Todos me impactaron cuando los vi por primera vez, muchos pertenecen a la cultura popular, así que también los menciono. Aquí haré un breve top ten considerándolos en cuenta regresiva, espero les gusten. Comencemos!

1. Planet of the Apes (1968)

We begin with an absolute classic in all its splendor. Throughout the film, we accompany Taylor on a strange planet dominated by talking apes, with a highly advanced culture, where humans barely existed in prehistoric conditions. The best part of this twist is that it's not a character revelation, but rather a revelation of the setting. That moment, when he sees the Statue of Liberty buried in the sand, not only does the character break down, but I was shattered: it wasn't another planet, it was our own Earth, destroyed by ourselves. Fortunately, I saw it before spoilers existed, or at least not like they do now.

Lo mejor de este giro es que no es una revelación de un personaje, sino de la ambientación, ese momento, cuando ve la Estatua de la Libertad enterrada en la arena, no solo se rompe el personaje, yo me hice pedazos: no era otro planeta, era nuestra propia Tierra destruida por nosotros mismos. Afortunadamente la vi antes de que existieran los spoileres, o al menos no como ahora.

1. The Others (2001)

Director Alejandro Amenábar gifted us with an incredible atmosphere of terror. It's a good film that, in its initial scenes, seems somewhat linear and predictable, but when I saw it, it was quite the opposite. I was terrified throughout the entire movie by the famous "intruders" haunting Nicole Kidman's house, only to discover that the ghosts were actually them. It was a tremendous gamble because it gives a new meaning to fear: We don't feel fear from what comes from the outside, but from our own condition, of which we were unaware. Brilliant!

El director Alejandro Amenábar nos regaló una atmósfera de terror increíble, una buena película la cual en los primeros cambios de escena pinta para ser algo lineal y predecible, pero cuando la vi fue todo lo contrario. Estuve toda la cinta muy asustado por los famosos "intrusos" que acechan la casa de Nicole Kidman, solo para descubrir que los fantasmas en realidad eran ellos. Fue una apuesta tremenda porque otorga un nuevo sentido al miedo: No sentimos temor por lo que viene del exterior, sino a tu propia condición de la que no eras consciente. Brillante!

1. Psycho (1960)

Hitchcock was a genius and a pioneer in many things, including what we know as suspense; he redefined the very foundations of that feeling. What extraordinary thing happens in this film? Well, first, he kills off the protagonist halfway through the movie (something inconceivable at the time). But the real shock is discovering that Norman Bates's "mother" is nothing more than his own fractured personality and a corpse in the basement. It's the twist that changed suspense cinema forever.

"What's in the box?" That line still gives me chills. What makes this twist one of the best is that the villain "wins." It's not an identity reveal, it's the unveiling of a perfect and macabre plan that turns the hero into the final piece of the seven deadly sins puzzle.

Before the franchise became all blood and gore, the first film was a brutal psychological thriller. Seeing the "corpse" that had been lying in the middle of the room the entire movie rise from the floor at the end is, quite simply, one of the most shocking images I've ever seen. I saw this in the theater when it premiered, so it was one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had. M. Night Shyamalan became the king of plot twists thanks to this. The best part isn't discovering that Bruce Willis was dead, but realizing that the film gave you all the clues: he never interacted with anyone other than the boy, the clothes he wore, the cold... He was there, but we didn't want to see it.

It wasn't just a surprise; it altered Luke's motivation and the mythology of an entire galaxy. It's the gold standard of how a twist can elevate an adventure story to a Greek tragedy. It was so groundbreaking at the time that it has spawned countless references in film, and when a scene is truly great, it deserves its own reference.

La cuktura pop se impone, así que no podía ser otro. "No... Yo soy tu padre". Son cinco palabras que cambiaron la cultura pop para siempre. No solo fue una sorpresa, sino que cambió la motivación de Luke y la mitología de toda una galaxia. Es el estándar de oro de cómo un giro puede elevar una historia de aventuras a una tragedia griega. fue tan bueno en su momento que ha generado miles de referencias en el cine, y cuando una escena es buena debe tener su referencia.

I know my list was quite long, but it's something I couldn't pass up. Honestly, these are the ones that have impacted me the most, and even knowing the ending, I still enjoy rewatching them to find the hidden clues. Do you think I missed any?
