This American-Mexican film, which runs for 2 hours and 33 minutes, is available on Netflix. It was directed and written by Guillermo del Toro and falls into the fantasy category.

It is an adaptation of the novel Frankenstein or the modern Prometheus, written by Mary Shelley and published in 1818.

Synopsis :

The film is divided into Prelude, Part I – Victor's story, and Part II – the creature's story.

In the Prelude, we are in 1857, when a Danish Royal Navy ship is trapped by ice in the Far North. Sailors are on the ice floe trying to free the ship. As the crew returns on board in the evening, an explosion occurs in the distance. Approaching the site of the explosion, they discover a dying man, Baron Victor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac).
The ship's first mate decides to take him on board to treat him, when a creature attacks the ship, shouting that it wants Victor. The creature is eventually knocked unconscious and thrown under the ice floe.

The baron begins to tell his story, and so Part I begins.

We learn how the creature was created and why it rebels.

At the end of Part II, we return to where we began in the Prelude, and the circle is complete.

Le film est divisé en Prélude, Partie I - le récit de Victor et Partie II - le récit de la créature.

Dans le Prélude, nous sommes en 1857, quand un navire de la marine royale danoise est coincé par les glaces dans le Grand Nord. Des marins sont sur la banquise pour tenter de dégager le navire. Alors que l'équipage est remonté à bord en soirée, une explosion a lieu au loin. En s'approchant, en marchant du lieu de l'explosion, ils découvrent un homme agonisant, le baron Victor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac).
Le second du navire décide de l'emmener à bord pour le soigner, c'est alors qu'une créature s'acharne sur le bateau, criant qu'il veut Victor. La créature finit par être assommée et envoyée sous la banquise.

Le baron commence à raconter son histoire et c'est donc la partie I qui commence.

Nous apprendrons comment la créature a été créée et pourquoi elle se rebelle.

A la fin de la partie II, nous reviendrons là où nous avons commencé le Prélude et la boucle sera bouclée.

My opinion and useful information /Mon avis et petites infos :

I'm usually wary of Guillermo del Toro, whom I find rather gory, but I decided to give him a chance and figured that in Frankenstein, I should expect to see body parts being assembled, which was indeed the case.

I ended up really enjoying it.

D'habitude, je me méfie de Guillermo del Toro que je trouve assez gore, mais je me suis dit que j'allais lui donner sa chance et que, dans Frankenstein, je devais m'attendre à voir des morceaux de corps qui sont assemblés, ce qui fût le cas.

J'ai bien aimé, finalement.

A good film, but not necessarily for the faint-hearted.
