Synopsis :

A major power cut has hit the United States, and power is unlikely to be restored any time soon.
Reese lives with her father and is well-versed in escape games, with a strong mind.

They need to think quickly – with no electricity, lots of things have stopped working.
Reese finds an old radio in the shed and manages to get it working. Her grandfather was listening in and advises them to come and join him as soon as possible, before people realise what’s happening and start panicking.

She and her father get the car and their belongings ready. They set off, driving through the town, which is already in turmoil with a spate of attacks and petrol stations and supermarkets being looted.

They think they’ve got the worst behind them, but that’s far from the case.

Son père et elle préparent la voiture et leurs affaires. Ils démarrent, ils traversent la ville qui est déjà en effervescence avec des agressions en série, les stations-services et les supermarchés qui sont dévalisés.

Ils pensent avoir passé le plus dur, mais il n'en est rien.

Would we be able to survive without electricity?
Even with just a half-hour power cut, we start to go a bit mad, because we worry about the fridges and freezers, our computers, and everything that needs recharging.
For some things, we can manage and carry on as before – such as doing the washing or cooking – but even for that, we’d need to rethink the layout of our homes, especially if it were to be a long-term situation.

We should have survival skills lessons at school, so that we can all fend for ourselves if such a disaster were to happen.

We really need to rethink the way we live and consume in order to preserve the planet and live in harmony with it, rather than constantly extracting more and more resources without giving it time to regenerate.

Le sujet aurait, certainement, pu être plus approfondi, mais cela donne déjà matière à réflexion.
Serions-nous capables de survivre sans électricité ?
Rien qu'avec une coupure d'1/2h, on devient déjà un peu fou, parce qu'on pense aux frigos et aux congélateurs, à nos ordinateurs, à tout ce qui doit se recharger.
Pour certaines choses, on peut se débrouiller et faire comme avant, comme pour la lessive, les repas, .. mais même pour cela, il faudrait repenser l'agencement de nos logements, surtout si c'est pour du long terme.

Nous devrions avoir des cours de survivalisme à l'école, qu'on puisse chacun se débrouiller si une telle catastrophe arrivait.

Il faut vraiment repenser nos façons de vivre, de consommer pour préserver la planète et vivre en accord avec celle-ci, au lieu de prélever toujours plus de ressources sans lui laisser le temps de les régénérer.

Will Patton starred in Armageddon (as Charles Chick Chapple), but has appeared in loads of other films and series. For example, in the series Yellowstone, where he plays Garrett Randall.

It was pretty good, all in all.
