Synopsis :

Tova Sullivan is a widow and works as a cleaner at the town’s aquarium. Since her son’s death, she has preferred to keep to herself; she favours peace and quiet, and the aquarium is the ideal refuge, whilst also allowing her to be useful and earn some money.
She often chats with Marcellus, an octopus nearing the end of his life, whilst cleaning the windows.

Cameron is travelling in his mother’s van, which he inherited when she died. The van breaks down on arrival in Sowell Bay, where he had come to look for his father. He has very little information about his father, but the few clues he found amongst his mother’s belongings point to this town.

Whilst waiting for his van to be repaired, he looks for a job to earn enough to pay the mechanic, but also to find somewhere to stay.

As Tova has had a bad fall and has been ordered by her doctor to rest, her manager takes Cameron on as an intern.

Cameron isn’t exactly a domestic whizz and gets told off by Tova, who likes her work done properly. Their initial interactions aren’t perfect, but the more they get to know each other, the better things will go.

Cameron voyage dans la camionnette de sa mère, dont il a hérité à son décès. Le véhicule tombe en panne en arrivant à Sowell-Bay, où il était venu chercher son père. Il a très peu d'infos sur celui-ci, mais les quelques indices qu'il a trouvé dans les affaires de sa mère pointent vers cette ville.

En attendant la réparation de sa camionnette, il cherche un boulot pour avoir de quoi payer le garagiste, mais aussi pour se loger.

Comme Tova fait une mauvaise chute et doit prendre du repos sur ordre du médecin, son responsable engage Cameron comme stagiaire.

Cameron n'est pas une fée du logis et se fera réprimander par Tova qui aime le travail bien fait. Les premiers contacts ne sont pas parfaits, mais plus ils apprendront à se connaître, mieux cela ira.

It was a moving and heart-warming film.

It reminds us that we all harbour preconceptions about the people we meet, because we are influenced by our own experiences and upbringing. It advises us to listen to others before judging them and to be at least a little open towards them, so that they can do the same.

Sometimes, all it takes is to talk about what we’re looking for (traces of a father, a part-time job, a course, a piece of information, etc.) to the right person – or to several people – and we’ll make much faster progress in our search, because we’ll be steered in the right direction, or even straight to our ultimate goal. It’s like casting a fishing line into a river – you might just be lucky enough for a fish to take the bait.

C'était un film émouvant et sympathique.

Il nous rappelle que nous avons tous des préjugés sur les personnes que l'on rencontre, parce que nous sommes influencés par notre vécu et notre éducation. Il nous conseille d'écouter l'autre avant de le juger et de s'ouvrir un minimum à lui, pour qu'il puisse en faire de même.

Parfois, il suffit de parler de nos recherches (les traces d'un père, un petit boulot, une formation, une information, etc.) à la bonne personne ou à plusieurs personnes et on avancera d'autant plus vite dans nos recherches, parce qu'on sera aiguillé dans la bonne direction, voire même directement vers le but final. C'est comme jeter un hameçon dans une rivière, il se peut qu'on ait la chance qu'un poisson y morde.
