Espíritu de lucha (12 Huérfanos poderosos) || Fighting spirit (12 powerful Orphans)

En mi última publicación les hable sobre mi top 3 de películas de drama y deportes, todas eran basadas en una historia real relacionados a hechos que sin lugar a dudas han inspirado a muchas personas en el mundo fútbol americano, ya sea fanáticos o personas ligadas directamente con el deporte, y con estas fueron con las que más conecte, aunque también habían otras producciones que podrían haber estado en la lista por sus buenas historias y lo bien realizadas o adaptadas que estaban. Lo cierto es que en estos días vi una nueva película muy interesante de deportes, específicamente de fútbol americano, que lleva por nombre Espíritu de lucha, que también se conoce como 12 poderosos huérfanos. El día de hoy les voy a dar mi opinión sobre esta cinta.

Espíritu de Lucha, que también se conoce como 12 Huérfanos poderosos, es una película del 2021 dirigida por Ty Roberts. Esta película es una adaptación de la novela de Jim Dent. La historia de este filme nos cuenta como un veterano de guerra (Primera guerra mundial) se convierte en un entrenador de fútbol americano en la época de la gran depresión, una crisis mundial que hubo en la economía en el 1929 y que tuvo un gran impacto en las finanzas del mundo, incluso en los Estados Unidos, lugar donde se desarrolla toda esta historia. Este entrenador llamado Rusty Russell se muda junto a su familia para el orfanato de Fort Worth, Texas, con la labor de ser profesor de matemáticas y el nuevo entrenador para formar un equipo de fútbol americano para competir en distrito, en la cual al conocer a los chicos que se encuentran en esta casa hogar, se va dando cuenta de todo lo que estos pasan y los quiere ayudar y que mejor forma que el deporte para ello.

Este filme nos muestra la cruel realidad que pasaban estos chicos, maltratos, explotación laboral y otras cosas más, ya que cuando no llegaban a lugar porque perdían a sus padres, eran abandonados por lo cual tenían un gran rencor con la vida y por esto Russell los quería ayudar. La trama está centrada principalmente a los chicos y esto se ve en la película, pero en realidad en el orfanato habían jóvenes de ambos sexos, pero la trama se centra principalmente en como 12 huérfanos lograron superarse e inspirar a todo el país en la época, ya que lograron superar todos las adversidades, del maltrato, el no tener las condiciones de poder practicar ya que no contaban con los equipos (uniformes, balones, entre otras cosas más) necesarios para tener las condiciones mínimas, pero aun así lograron inspirar y salir adelante.

In my last post I told you about my top 3 drama and sports movies, all of them were based on a true story related to events that undoubtedly have inspired many people in the American soccer world, either fans or people directly linked to the sport, and these were the ones I connected with the most, although there were also other productions that could have been on the list for their good stories and how well made or adapted they were. The truth is that these days I saw a very interesting new sports movie, specifically about American soccer, called Fighting Spirit, which is also known as 12 Mighty Orphans. Today I am going to give you my opinion about this film.


Fighting Spirit, which is also known as 12 Mighty Orphans, is a 2021 film directed by Ty Roberts. This film is an adaptation of the novel by Jim Dent. The story of this film tells us how a war veteran (World War I) becomes an American soccer coach at the time of the Great Depression, a global crisis that occurred in the economy in 1929 and had a great impact on the world's finances, including in the United States, the place where all this story takes place. This coach named Rusty Russell moves with his family to the orphanage in Fort Worth, Texas, with the task of being a math teacher and the new coach to form a soccer team to compete in district, in which to meet the boys who are in this home, is realizing all that these pass and wants to help them and what better way than sport to do so.


This film shows us the cruel reality that these boys went through, mistreatment, labor exploitation and other things more, because when they did not get to place because they lost their parents, they were abandoned so they had a great resentment with life and for this reason Russell wanted to help them. The plot is mainly focused on the boys and this is seen in the film, but in reality in the orphanage there were young people of both sexes, but the plot focuses mainly on how 12 orphans managed to overcome and inspire the whole country at the time, as they managed to overcome all adversity, abuse, not having the conditions to practice because they did not have the equipment (uniforms, balls, among other things) necessary to have the minimum conditions, but still managed to inspire and move forward.

Al ser esta una película sobre jóvenes huérfanos, el drama no puede faltar y es que es habitual de cuando las cosas van bien, siempre suele pasar algo que cambien las cosas, pero por suerte estos chicos lograron salir adelante de cada mal momento y todo gracias a que con ellos se encontraban buenas personas, que querían un bien para los chicos y por ello realizaron todo lo posible para que estos estuvieran bien, enfrentando muchos contratiempos, entre ellos Frank Wynn, un empleado del orfanato, quien se encargaba en la parte del trabajo de la casa hogar, era quien le tocaba poner a trabajar a los chicos, pero este siempre los maltrataba e incluso se robaba el dinero que estaba destinado para la ayuda de estos jóvenes.

Sin lugar a dudas la trama de esta película me encantó, logra inspirar a las personas y al ver el filme nos transmite muchas emociones, tanto de alegría y también de tristeza al ver muchas de las escenas. La producción no solo nos muestra como estos hechos aprendieron las técnicas para el fútbol americano, sino que también las clases donde se les enseñaban contenidos académicos para la mejoría de estos huérfanos y que cuando salieron de la casa, pudieran tener un futuro, una familia, un trabajo y que realmente fueran responsables. Antes de llegar Rusty todo era lo contrario, eran unos chicos mala conductas, ya que no solo eran abandonados y no tenían familia, sino que además eran maltratados. Por suerte esto cambio, gracias al deporte y a la ayuda de buenas personas. La trama nos muestras que si hay personas malas en el mundo, pero también hay personas de buenos sentimientos que quieren ayudar a los demás.

El reparto de Espíritu de lucha estuvo bien elegido, cada una realizó una buena actuación, pero sobre todo me gustó la interpretación de Luke Wilson quien le dio vida al profesor y entrenado Rusty Russell. Todo lo que hacía se veía muy genuino y conecte mucho con su personaje. Otro que me gustó mucho su actuación fue Martin Sheen, quien era Doc Hall, el doctor de los chicos y ayudante del entrenador Rusty. Ambos personajes mostraban una gran conexión, con muchos momentos divertidos. Vinessa Shaw hizo el papel de Juanita, la esposa de Russell y quien fue de gran ayuda para los chicos dentro de las aulas de clase y en lo que a la parte académica respecta. El cast que les dio vida a los jóvenes huérfanos hizo un gran trabajo. No sé si el trabajo del reparto fue excepcional o no, pero lo más importante es que mostraron lo que el dirección y la producción querían transmitir al público, puede que no haya sido perfecto, pero si ciento que cumplió con su cometido.

As this is a film about young orphans, the drama can not miss and it is usual when things are going well, something always happens to change things, but luckily these kids managed to get ahead of every bad moment and all thanks to the fact that with them were good people, who wanted a good for the kids and therefore did everything possible for them to be well, They faced many setbacks, among them Frank Wynn, an employee of the orphanage, who was in charge of the work of the home, was the one who had to put the children to work, but he always mistreated them and even stole the money that was destined to help these young people.


Undoubtedly, I loved the plot of this film, it manages to inspire people and when watching the film it transmits many emotions, both of joy and sadness when watching many of the scenes. The production not only shows us how these facts learned the techniques for soccer, but also the classes where they were taught academic content for the betterment of these orphans and that when they left home, they could have a future, a family, a job and that they were really responsible. Before Rusty's arrival, everything was the opposite, they were misbehaved children, because not only were they abandoned and had no family, but they were also mistreated. Luckily this changed, thanks to sports and the help of good people. The plot shows us that there are bad people in the world, but there are also people with good feelings who want to help others.


The cast of Fighting Spirit was well cast, each gave a good performance, but I especially liked the performance of Luke Wilson who brought to life the teacher and trained Rusty Russell. Everything he did looked very genuine and I really connected with his character. Another one I really liked his performance was Martin Sheen who was Doc Hall, the boys' doctor and assistant to Coach Rusty. Both characters showed a great connection, with many funny moments. Vinessa Shaw played the role of Juanita, Russell's wife, who was a great help to the boys in the classroom and academics. The cast that brought the young orphans to life did a great job. I don't know if the work of the cast was exceptional or not, but the most important thing is that they showed what the direction and the production wanted to transmit to the audience, it may not have been perfect, but I think it did the job.

Ty Roberts dirigió muy bien esta película, la trama estuvo bien dirigida y me gustó la forma en que adaptaron mucho la producción, allí es donde entra los guionistas, que este caso fueron Lane Garrison, Kevin Meyer el mismo Ty Roberts. Lo que si no estoy seguro es que si Jim Dent (escritor de la novela literario) tuvo alguna participación. La fotografía fue muy destacado, con lugares muy bonito, pero sobre todo lograron plasmar en pantalla muy bien los lugares en la época en la cual se desarrolló la historia. Lo mismo siento de vestuario. Todos estos detalles estuvieron muy bien cuidado. La banda sonora es una de los aspectos que más me gustan de una película porque la música en el momento idóneo puede hacer que el momento sea épico o no. En el caso de 12 Huérfanos, la banda sonora fue una de las cosas más destacado, buenos temas en los momentos alegres, de tensión pero también en los momentos tristes, me llegó bastante y eso es lo importante, así que estuvo bien entonces.

Opinión Final

Espíritu de lucha es una de las mejores películas que he visto de las actuales del género, sin tomar en cuenta las clásicas que sabemos el éxito que tuvieron y que aún lo siguen haciendo. Lo que más me gusta de esta película es que está basada en hechos reales, sobre un veterano de guerra que se convirtió en profesor y entretenedor de un grupo de 12 huérfanos quienes fueron convertidos en jugadores de fútbol americano, con la finalidad que estos cambiaran sus vidas para que fueran buenas personas en la sociedad. Puedo decir que Rusty si le cambió la vida a estos chicos, pero también viceversas. Incluso Russell cambió el estilo de juego, fue quien empezó a implementar nuevas estrategias, como expandir a los jugadores en el campo en una formación especial. Algo que cambio el deporte y fue bueno verlo en esta película.

La historia fue excepcional, sin lugar a dudas estos huérfanos fueron una inspiración para la sociedad en la época, tanto así que recibieron el apoyo de las personas en los momentos más difíciles, cuando se pensaba que todo había acabado. Les recomiendo esta película, es buena y podemos pasar el rato y que mejor que ver una adaptación de una historia basada en la vida real. En lo personal le doy un 9 a esta película. Recordar que es tan solo una opinión personal de acuerdo a mi experiencia, las opiniones pueden ser variadas.

Ty Roberts directed this movie very well, the plot was well directed and I liked the way they adapted a lot of the production, that's where the screenwriters come in, which in this case were Lane Garrison, Kevin Meyer and Ty Roberts himself. I'm not sure if Jim Dent (writer of the literary novel) had any involvement. The photography was very outstanding, with very nice locations, but above all they managed to capture on screen very well the places in the era in which the story took place. I feel the same about the costumes. All these details were very well taken care of. The soundtrack is one of the aspects I like most in a film because the music at the right time can make the moment epic or not. In the case of 12 Orphans, the soundtrack was one of the highlights, good themes in the happy moments, of tension but also in the sad moments, it got to me a lot and that's what is important, so it was good then.


Final Opinion


Fighting Spirit is one of the best movies I have seen of the current genre, without taking into account the classics that we know how successful they were and still are. What I like most about this movie is that it is based on real events, about a war veteran who became a teacher and entertainer of a group of 12 orphans who were turned into soccer players, with the purpose of changing their lives to become good people in society. I can say that Rusty did change the lives of these boys, but also vice versa. Even Russell changed the style of play, he was the one who began to implement new strategies, such as expanding the players on the field in a special formation. Something that changed the sport and it was good to see it in this movie.


The story was exceptional, undoubtedly these orphans were an inspiration for society at the time, so much so that they received the support of people in the most difficult moments, when it was thought that everything was over. I recommend this movie, it is good and we can pass the time and what better than seeing an adaptation of a story based on real life. Personally I give this movie a 9. Remember that this is just a personal opinion according to my experience, opinions may vary.
