Heart of a runner | Opinion [ENG-ESP]

Heart of a runner, whose original title of the film is 1 mile for you, is a film of the year 2017, which was directed by Leif Tilden who previously worked in productions such as The Ninja Turtles of 1990 and the second part The secret of the green boogers of 1991, being these his most important works in which he worked. This film I'm going to talk about today is a teenage romantic drama film, which also touches on the theme of sport, which caught my attention and is the real reason I decided to see the film, so I decided to share my opinion with you.

I must say that my expectations for this film were initially high, but I was certainly disappointed, but I still enjoyed it, so much so that I watched it twice. The plot of this film is mainly about a guy named Kevin Schuler who is a member of a high school athletics team in the United States and who, by a twist of fate, lost his girlfriend and best friend in a traffic accident. This affected not only him, but also the other families in the community where these young people lived.

Young Kevin had to change schools and start all over again, although at first he did not run in track and field competitions anymore, but this one is forced. The boy clings to his memories of his girlfriend, which gives a leap of quality in what he does. Kevin was really good, but after the tragedy he was much better, even causing doubts among the other schools' track and field groups. But, even so, Schuler continued to do his job and concentrated only on running, because it was the only way to keep his girlfriend and friend present. However, this became an obsession, as he ran as if his life depended on it and not because he was really enjoying it.

Corazón de un corredor, cuyo título original de la película es 1 milla para ti, es un filme del año 2017, que fue dirigido por Leif Tilden quien trabajo previamente en producciones como de Las Tortugas Ninja de 1990 y la segunda parte El secreto de los mocos verdes de 1991, siendo estas sus trabajos más importantes en la cual trabajó. Esta película de la cual les voy a hablar hoy es del género de drama romántico en adolescentes, donde además se toca el tema del deporte, lo cual me llama la atención y es la verdadera razón que me animé a ver la película, así que decidí compartir mi opinión con ustedes.


Debo decir que en un principio mis expectativas con esta película eran altas, pero ciertamente me decepcionó, aunque aun así la disfruté, tanto así que la vi en dos ocasiones. La trama de esta película trata principalmente sobre un sobre llamado Kevin Schuler quien es integrante de un grupo de atletismo de una preparatoria en los Estados Unidos y quien por una mala pasada del destino perdió a su novia y mejor amigo en accidente de tránsito. Esto le afecto mucho, no solo a él, sino que a las demás familia de la comunidad de estos jóvenes residían.


El joven Kevin debió cambiarse de escuela y comenzar de nuevo, aunque al principio no correr más en competencia de atletismo, pero este es obligado. El chico se aferra a sus recuerdos de su novia, lo cual da un salto de calidad en lo que hace. Kevin era realmente bueno, pero luego de la tragedia fue mucho mejor, incluso causando dudas entre los grupos de atletismo de las demás escuela. Pero, aun así, Schuler continuaba haciendo su trabajo y se concentraba solo en correr, porque era la única forma de mantener presente a su novia y amigo. Sin embargo, esto se volvió una obsesión, ya que corría como que su vida dependiera de eso y no porque realmente lo estaba disfrutando.

But the romance in youth can not miss, that's where Henny Finch comes in, a girl who studied at Kevin's new school and that since the arrival of this was noticed as there was a connection, but the young man refused to fall in love again. Even so, Henny always tried to be there for the boy to help him and integrate into a normal life, like all young people, but he just wanted to run and nothing more than that. Certainly, Henny's character was one of my favourites, but she lacked more development, much more participation in the film and much more to know about her, not just that she was the typical girl in love who wanted to help someone to win his heart.

On the other hand, we have Coach K who is another of the most important characters in the plot and who, unlike Henny, had a better development, but at the same time I feel that he was also wasted, everything was focused more on Kevin and not on other important issues that could have made more out of the plot, with the incident, making more reference to the life of the characters before this, even the protagonist himself. In general the story is similar to other films, where tragedy changes people's lives and they sink into depression, but also the most important message of the film is to be able to move on and continue with life. So it can be of help to many who are going through a similar situation or a difficult time.

What disappointed me the most about the plot is that everything is focused on Kevin and not on the other characters, they limit themselves to show what Kevin was going through, what his day to day life was like, but not the other people. I think they could have made better use of the story, given it more depth, and thus it could have reached the viewers more. Another point I should mention is that the ending of the film was as expected, I personally liked it, but I missed seeing a little more. Lately, I have seen productions where the ending is made to seem inconclusive, maybe because they had a second film in mind, but this happened. The whole film was focused on showing how bad Kevin was having a hard time, the training and the athletics races and their different modalities. These were the sensations that the plot left me with, but it doesn't mean that I thought it was terrible, I had a bad time at all times, because it wasn't like that, I just expected more.

Pero el romance en la juventud no puede faltar, allí es donde entra Henny Finch, una chica quien estudiaba en la nueva escuela de Kevin y que desde la llegada de este se notó como hubo una conexión, pero el joven se negaba a volver a enamorarse nuevamente. Aun así, Henny siempre trato de estar presente para el chico en ayudarlo y se integrará a una vida normal, como todo joven, pero este solo quería correr y nada más que eso. Ciertamente, el personaje de Henny era uno de mis favoritos, pero le falto más desarrollo, mucha más participación dentro de la película y conocer mucho más de ella, no solo que era la típica chica enamorada que quería ayudar a alguien para ganarse su corazón.


Por otro lado, tenemos al entrenador K quien es otro de los personajes de mayor importancia dentro de la trama y que al contrario de Henny, este sí tuve un mejor desarrollo, pero a la vez siento que también fue desaprovechado, todo sequizo central más en Kevin y no otros temas importantes que le podrían haber sacado más provecho a la trama, con el incidente, hacer más referencia a la vida de los personajes antes de esto, incluso del propio protagonista. En general la historia es parecida a otras películas, donde la tragedia cambia la vida de las personas y estos se sumergen en la depresión, no obstante también el poder seguir adelante y continuar con la vida, es el mensaje más importante que nos deja el filme. Así que puede ser de ayuda para muchos que están pasando por una situación similar o por un momento difícil.


Lo que más me decepciono de la trama es que todo se centra en Kevin y no en los otros personajes, se limitan a dar a conocer todo por lo que estaba pasando Kevin, cuál era su día a día, pero no de las demás personas. Creo que se pudo aprovechar mejor la historia, darle una mayor profundidad y así podría llegar más a los espectadores. Otro punto que debo mencionar es que el final del filme era lo esperado, en lo personal me gustó, pero me faltó ver un poco más. Últimamente, he visto producciones donde el final se hace como inconcluso, puede que sea porque tenían pensado una segunda película, pero esto ocurrió. Todo el filme se centró en mostrar lo mal que lo estaba pasando Kevin, el entrenamiento y las carreras de atletismo y sus diferentes modalidades. Estas fueron las sensaciones que me dejo la trama, pero no quiere decir que me haya parecido fatal, la pase mal en todo momento, porque no fue así, solo que me esperaba más.

The cast included Graham Rogers Kevin, Billy Crudup as Coach K and Liana Liberato as Henny, the main characters of the film, whose involvement in the plot was the most important. They all gave outstanding performances, without a doubt some of the best in the film, without detracting from the work of those who brought to life the more minor characters in Heart of a Runner. My favourite performance came from Liana, but again I repeat, she lacked a lot more character development that would have made the film more successful in terms of cast.

The director Leif Tilden's work could be said to have delivered with wonderful shots and sequences that I enjoyed watching it. The biggest flaw of the film was the plot and the script, it lacked a lot more information so that we can understand more of the story and the why of things. The script was written by Marc Novak and something I forgot to mention is that this production is inspired by the novel written by Jeremy Jackson under the title Life at this speed. As for the photography, I can tell you that it was one of the best things I liked about the film, everything was very well chosen, with beautiful locations that were a pleasure to see, especially the cross-country races and the athletics tracks where the young people from the high school where most of the story takes place trained. The soundtrack was just right, nothing more to say, the music was in keeping with the moment we were watching, nothing more than that.

Final opinion

Heart of a Runner (1 Mile to You) may not be one of the best films I've seen in the genre, it has its faults, it's a film of self-improvement, but in the end it lacks more convincing story and much more use of its characters. Otherwise I think it's pretty good. The things I didn't like don't mean that they ruined my experience, because they didn't, I liked a lot of things, because that's what I like about watching a film production. Would I recommend it? Of course I would, for the fact that if the genre is to your liking, I think you can have a good time, have a good time, beyond the negative things you might find.

El reparto de la película estuvo integrado por Graham Rogers Kevin, Billy Crudup como el entrenador K y Liana Liberato como Henny, siendo estos los principales personajes de la películo, cuya participación de la trama era mayor. Todos hicieron una actuación destacada, sin lugar a dudas de lo mejor de la película, sin desmeritar la labor de aquellos que le dieron vida a los personajes más segundarios de Corazón de un corredor. Mi actuación favorita fue de Liana, pero vuelvo y repito, le falto mucho más desarrollo a su personaje que sin lugar a dudas le fuese dado un mayor exito al filme en cuando al cast.


El trabajo del director Leif Tilden se podría decir que cumplió con maravillas tomas y secuencias que disfruté viéndola. El mayor fallo de la película fue la trama y el guion, le falto mucha más información para qué podemos entender más la historia y el porqué de las cosas. El guion estuvo a cargo de Marc Novak y algo que se me pasó comentarles es que esta producción está inspirada en la novela escrita por Jeremy Jackson bajo el de La vida a estas velocidades. En cuanto a la fotografía les puedo decir que fue una de las mejores cosas que me gustó del filme, todo muy bien elegido, con lugares muy hermosos y que daban gusto apreciar, sobre todo en las competencias de las carreras de campo travieso y las pistas de atletismo donde entrenaban los jóvenes de la preparatoria donde se desarrolla la mayor parte de la historia. La banda sonora muy correcta, sin más que decir, la música era acorde al momento que estábamos viendo, nada más que eso.


Opinión Final


Corazón de un corredor (1 Mile to You) puede ser que no sea una de las mejores películas que he visto del género, tiene sus fallos, es un filme de superación personal, pero que al final le falta convencer más con su historia y sacarle mucho más provecho a sus personajes. Por lo demás creo que está bastante bien. Las cosas que no me gustaron no quiere decir que hayan arruinado mi experiencia, porque no es así, muchas cosas me agradó, ya que es lo que me gusta de ver una producción cinematográfica. ¿Te la recomendaría? Por supuesto que sí, por el hecho de que si el género es de tu agrado, creo que la puedes pasar bien, tener un rato agradable, más allá de las cosas negativas que te puedas encontrar.
