Stronger than destiny: A journey between tragedy and hope [ENG-ESP]

Stronger than Fate is a 2017 film directed by director David Gordon Green, a production of the drama genre based on true events. This story is the adaptation of the book by Jeff Bauman, who in 2013 was one of the survivors of the Boston Marathon bombing, where in 2013 there was a terrorist attack in that great sporting event in the United States, a situation that shocked the world, just like the attack on the twin towers. The script of the film was in the hands of John Pollono, who as I told you before, John based on what was narrated by the protagonist.

Many times these productions usually have changes with respect to the real story, slight details, in order to bring it to the big screen. Being a movie, many times there is not enough time to show everything, so most of the time it is about showing what is most important, in this case human resilience in the face of adversity. This is a story of personal overcoming, as Jeff Bauman was a victim of the aforementioned attack, losing both legs, which undoubtedly is something that not everyone is able to cope with. I don't want to mention significant things about the story, I would like you to know it for yourself, so I will omit certain details that are often relevant to the plot and what it wants to show.

Jeff is a strong person, with a very particular family and this can be shown in the story. This is a true story and very inspiring, which is why I value it so much more than the rest. Bauman was considered a hero, as he was able to identify one of those involved in the terrorist attack at the Boston Marathon. A film that shows us the physical and emotional process that Jeff lives, who is unbreakable, but losing both legs is a situation that is not easy to bear. But this is not all, it also touches on the complex relationship of the survivor with his mother, his partner and his environment, which causes psychological disorder, our character beyond becoming strong, there comes a time where he can not hide the guilt, anger and confusion for everything that happened.

Esta historia es la adaptación del libro de Jeff Bauman, quien en 2013 fue uno de los sobrevivientes del atentado del maratón de Boston, donde en 2013 hubo un atentado terrorista en ese gran evento deportivo en los Estados Unidos, una situación que conmocionó al mundo, al igual que el atentado de las torres gemelas. El guion del filme estuvo en manos de John Pollono, que como les dije anteriormente, John se basó en lo narrado por el protagonista.

Muchas veces estas producciones suelen tener cambios con respecto a la historia real, detalles leves, con la finalidad de llevarlo a la pantalla grande. Al ser una película, muchas veces el tiempo no alcanza para mostrar todo, así que la mayor parte del tiempo se trata de mostrar lo más importante, en este caso la resiliencia humana frente a la adversidad. Esta es una historia de superación personal, pues Jeff Bauman fue una víctima del atentado mencionado anterior, perdiendo ambas piernas, lo que sin lugar a dudas es algo que no todo el mundo es capaz de sobrellevar. No quiera mencionar cosas significativas de la historia, quisiera que la conocieras por ti misma, así que voy a omitir ciertos detalles que muchas veces son relevante para dar a conocer la trama y lo que se quiere mostrar.

Bauman fue considerado un héroe, pues pudo identificar a uno de los implicados en el ataque terrorista en el maratón de Boston. Una película que nos muestra el proceso físico y emocional que vive Jeff, quien se muestra inquebrantable, pero perder ambas piernas es una situación que no es fácil llevar. Pero esto no queda nada más en esto, sino que también toca la compleja relación del sobreviviente con su madre, su pareja y su entorno, lo que causa en desorden psicológico, nuestro personaje más allá de hacerse el fuerte, llega un momento donde no puede ocultar la culpa, enojo y confusión por todo lo ocurrido.

The film's story is great, even the direction, but it seemed very good. But not everything is perfect, the script of the film is one of the weakest points, it takes away the great thing that could have been the production. The latter I think goes hand in hand with the cast, as this greatly affects what it wants to get across. Jeff was played by Jake Gyllenhaal, who had a masterful performance from my point of view. In the story we meet Erin, Jeff Bauman's girlfriend, but the reality is that the connection between the two is not what I expected, I did not believe the love between them, but this is not the fault of Tatiana Maslany who gave life to the character, but I think it is more the poor script in many of the things. A well chosen cast for the most part, with good performances, some better than others, but beyond the aforementioned, I think the rest goes pretty well.

The cinematography of Stronger than Destiny is another of the film's strong points, as it shows the emotional state of Jeff Bauman and the intimate tone of the story. Also within the film we find wonderful places, sporting events where the protagonist of the story was invited, such as the stadium of the Boston Red Sox of the MLB and also the NHL, because as I said before, Jeff was considered a hero and wanted to be used as an inspiration for people who have gone through a difficult situation, inviting to move forward, that life goes on and we must take advantage of the opportunity that we have been given.

The soundtrack of the film, Stronger than Destiny, was composed by Michael Brook. The music of the film was very good, it was at the level of what was expected, it gives us many times an atmosphere of sensitivity, to show the moments of greater sentimentality, although not falling into exaggeration. This film brings us several tears, but we also have good moments that will invite us to live each of the stages, the complicated moments, but at some point we have to accept what happened and move on as Jeff Bauman and director David Gordon Green showed us throughout the 116 minutes of film.

La historia del filme es genial, incluso la dirección, pero pareció muy buena. Pero no todo es perfecto, el guion del filme es uno de los puntos más débiles, le quita lo grandiosa que pudo ser la producción. Esto último creo que va de la mano del reparto, pues esto afecta considerablemente lo que se quiere llegar a transmitir. Jeff fue interpretado por Jake Gyllenhaal, quien tuvo una actuación magistral desde mi punto de vista. En la historia nos encontramos con Erin, la novia de Jeff Bauman, pero la realidad es que la conexión de ambos no lo esperado, no me creía el amor entre ambos, pero esto no se culpa de Tatiana Maslany quien le dio vida al personaje, sino que creo que es más el pobre guion en mucho de las cosas. Un reparto bien elegido en su mayoría, con buenas actuaciones, unas mejores que otra, pero más allá de lo ya mencionado, creo que lo demás va bastante bien.

La fotografía de Más fuerte que el destino es otro de los puntos fuertes del filme, pues muestra el estado emocional de Jeff Bauman y el tono íntimo de la historia. También dentro del filme nos encontramos lugares maravillosos, eventos deportivos donde el protagonista de la historia fue invitado, como el estadio de las Medias Rojas de Boston de la MLB y también de la NHL, ya que como les dije anteriormente, Jeff era considerado un héroe y quería ser usado como inspiración para personas que hayan pasado por una situación difícil, invitando a continuar adelante, que la vida sigue y hay que aprovechar la oportunidad que se nos ha dado.

La banda sonora de la película, Más fuerte que el destino, fue compuesta por Michael Brook. La música del filme fue muy buena, estuvo al nivel de lo esperado, nos da muchas veces una atmósfera de sensibilidad, para mostrar los momentos de mayor sentimentalismo, aunque no caer en la exageración. Este filme nos saca varias lágrimas, pero también tenemos buenos momentos que nos invitará a vivir cada una de las etapas, los momentos complicadas, pero en algún momento tenemos que aceptar lo sucedido y continuar adelante tal como nos mostró Jeff Bauman y el director David Gordon Green a lo largo de los 116 minutos de película.

Stronger than Destiny is a film that highlights the story of inspiration and although there are moments when the story becomes heavy because of the script, overall it is a good film, I keep the story, its message and other sections that highlight much more of the story. These were the feelings that the film left me, after watching the movie, but you may have another perspective. This review is a personal opinion according to my experience. Do I recommend it? Despite the detail of the script, it is a film that I would recommend, a story based on true events that can help many people.

Más fuerte que el destino es una película que resalta la historia de inspiración y aunque hay momento que la historia se vuelve pesada por el guion, en general es una buena película, me quedo con la historia, su mensaje y demás apartados que resaltan mucho más de la historia. Estas fueron las sensaciones que me dejó el filme, tras ver la película, pero puede que ustedes tengan otra perspectiva. Esta reseña es una opinión personal de acuerdo a mi experiencia. ¿La recomiendo? A pesar del detalle del guion, es un filme que sí recomendaría, una historia basada en hechos reales que puede ayudar a muchas personas.
