The hero who ran without glory // El héroe que corrió sin gloria

Friends of the entertainment-loving community, I hope you are all well. If you saw the children's movie Balto, then reading this review will surprise you, and if you haven't seen the 2019 movie Togo, you're in for a treat. I recently saw the production (Togo), which tells the true story of the dog who led a race to get serum that would save the lives of many children in Alaska in 1925. This film was directed by Ericson Core, while the screenplay was written by Tom Flynn.

As I said, the film Togo tells the story of the dog who led the expedition that tried to bring diphtheria antitoxin to the town of Nome, Alaska, to cure a group of local children. The 1995 film Balto tried to portray him as the hero, but in reality, he only completed part of the journey, while the sled team led by Togo and his human Leonhard Seppala traveled more than 400 km, enduring extremely difficult conditions. This story shows us that things are often not really as they are told. There are anonymous heroes who are often forgotten, as was the case with Togo and Seppala.

The film tells the story of Togo, with transitions from the present to the past, recounting how Togo was initially disliked by Leonhard, but his determination and desire to lead the team made him the best guide dog in Alaska's history, winning important races, but the most significant of all was the 1925 “Serum Run,” when several sled teams, but above all Togo's, achieved a considerable feat that saved the lives of many children. Togo was 12 years old when he ran the race, so his owner and wife did not want him to lead the sled, but Leonhard Seppala knew that this journey could be accomplished with this dog leading the group. A story based on real events, which caught my attention even more, as I always enjoy these kinds of stories.

Si llegaste a ver la película infantil, Balto, pues al leer esta reseña y si no has visto la película de 2019, Togo, te llegarás a sorprender. Está la producción (Togo) la vi recientemente, que nos cuenta la verdadera historia sobre el perro que lideró una carrera para conseguir un suero que salvaría la vida de muchos niños en Alaska en el año 1925. Esta película fue dirigida por Ericson Core, mientras que el guion estuvo a cargo de Tom Flynn.

Como dije la película, Togo nos narra la historia del perro quien guio la expedición que trataba de llevar a aún pueblo de Alaska, antitoxina diftérica, para curar a un grupo de niños de la localidad de Nome. La historia de la película de 1995 Balto se trataba de decir que este fue el héroe, pero la realidad fue que solo completó un tramo del recorrido, mientras que el equipo de trineo liderado por Togo junto a su humano Leonhard Seppala recorrieron más de 400 km, pasando por condiciones muy, pero muy complicadas. Esto historia nos da a conocer que muchas veces las cosas no son realmente como las cuentan. Pues hay héroe anónimo que suelen quedar en el olvido, tal como fue el caso de Togo y Seppala.

La película nos narra la historia de Togo, con transiciones del presente, al pasado, donde se cuenta como Togo al principio no era querido por Leonhard, pero su determinación y querer liderar al grupo, lo convirtió en el mejor perro guía de Alaska en su historia, logrando ganar carreras importantes, pero la más significativa de todas fue “Carrera del suero” de 1925, cuando varios grupos de trineos, pero sobre todo el de Togo, consiguieron una considerable hazaña que salvó la vida de muchos pequeños. Togo cuando realizó la carrera fue de 12 años, por lo que su dueño y esposa no querían que este fue el que liderará el trineo, pero Leonhard Seppala sabía que esta travesía se podría lograr con este perro liderando al grupo. Una historia basada en hechos reales, lo que aún capto más mi atención, ya que esta historia son siempre de mi agrado.

The first thing the film conveys is the relationship or bond between animals and humans, but above all, I am left with a sense of historical vindication, sacrifice, and perseverance. Historical vindication, because Togo was forgotten, even though the people of Alaska, especially those in the town of Nome, knew what this dog had achieved. History told a different story, as all the credit went to another guide dog. As for the bond between dogs and humans, I like that theme, as I like animals, but I am more struck by the above. The film Togo shows us flashbacks from Togo's youth to when he was old, but still had the same determination he had when he was younger. The changes were well executed and gave meaning to the story, helping us to understand much more what the film wanted to convey. I think both the director and the screenwriter did an outstanding job.

One of the things I want to highlight most about this film is the cinematography, with breathtaking scenes showing different landscapes, but also how harsh nature can be, with the adverse conditions faced by the sled teams, especially Togo's, which was the longest and most dangerous part of the journey. We can see the snow, the storms that occur in Alaska, and the different seasons. The cinematography is considered one of the highlights of the film, in addition to the excellent shots shown in the film, with moments of considerable tension about what might happen. Although, having seen the 1995 animated film, I had an idea of the ending, but not about Togo, as the journey was long and, given his age, it was unlikely that he would survive, which created a certain tension and uncertainty about the ending of this heroic dog's story.

Lo primero que transmite la película es la relación o vínculo entre los animales y los humanos, pero sobre todo me quedo con reivindicación histórica, sacrificio y perseverancia. La reivindicación historia, pues Togo fue dejado en el olvido, por más que las personas de Alaska, sobre todo del pueblo de Nome sabían lo que había logrado este perro, la historia contaba otra cosa, pues todo el crédito se lo llevó otro perro guía. En lo que respecta al vínculo, perro-humano, ese tema me gusta, ya que me gustan los animales, pero me quedo más con lo anteriormente expuesto. La película Togo nos muestra flashbacks entre la juventud de Togo, hasta cuando a estaba viejo, pero aún tenía la determinación que cuando era más joven. Los cambios fueron bien ejecutados, le dieron sentido a la historia, para entender mucho más lo que se quería transmitir y creo que tanto el director, como el guionista hicieron un trabajo destacado.

Una de las cosas que más quiero destacar de esta película es la fotografía, con escenas impresionantes donde se mostraron diferentes paisajes, pero sobro lo inclemente que puede llegar ser la naturaleza, con condiciones adversas que pasaron los grupos de trineos y sobro todo el de Togo, siendo la trama más largo y riesgoso del recorrido. Podemos ver la nieve, las tormentas que se dan en Alaska y las diferentes estaciones. La fotografía consideró que es de lo más destacado del filme, además de las excelentes tomas que se mostraron en el filme, con momentos de bastante tensión por lo que podría ocurrir, aunque bueno al ver la película animada de 1995, tenía una idea del final, aunque no de Togo, pues el viaje era largo y con su edad, lo más probable es que no fuese sobrevivido lo que le daba cierta tensión e incertidumbre del final de la historia de este heroico perro.

Willem Dafoe played Leonhard Seppala, a strong man with a tough personality, but deep down he was a great person. He risked his own life and that of his faithful friend Togo to save the children's lives, regardless of the consequences. I thought the actor's performance was excellent. The role suited Dafoe perfectly, as he knew how to convey his character and this came across on screen. On the other hand, Julianne Nicholson played his wife, who, although she also has a certain character, is much more tender with animals and people, which shows that people don't always have to be the same to love each other. This film not only shows heroism, giving value to what Togo and his human did, but also the different facets and personalities that people can have.

As for the soundtrack, I can tell you that it was composed by Mark Isham, with compositions that lived up to the film, with backgrounds of tension, adrenaline, sad moments, happy moments, which as a viewer I can tell you that I perceived those different moments. The 2019 film Togo is a magnificent film with a great story that touches on the themes already mentioned. To conclude what I have written above in this review, I can tell you that this film is worth watching. I give it a 10, although of course it may have certain details, but the impression it left me with is that of an almost perfect story and a wonderful execution. So I can say that I recommend it, and I am sure you will love it.

Willem Dafoe hizo el papel de Leonhard Seppala, un hombre fuerte, qué carácter duro, pero en el fondo era una gran persona, arriesgó su propia vida y la de su fiel amigo Togo por salvar la vida de los niños, sin importar las consecuencias. La actuación del actor me pareció excelente, el papel le quedó genial a Dafoe, ya que supo transmitir a su personaje y esto traspasó la pantalla. Por otro lado, Julianne Nicholson hizo de su esposa, que si bien también se le ve cierto carácter, pero es mucha más tierna con los animales y las personas, lo que demuestra que nos siempre las personas tienen que ser iguales para llegarse a querer. Esta película no muestra solo el heroísmo, dar el valor a lo que realizó Togo y su humano, sino que también las diferentes facetas y personalidades que llegan a tener las personas.

En cuanto a la banda sonora, les puedo decir que esta estuvo a cargo de Mark Isham, con composiciones que estuvieron a la altura de la película, con fondos de tensión, adrenalina, momentos tristes, momentos alegres, que como espectador les puedo decir que percibí esos diferentes momentos. La película Togo de 2019 es una magnífica película, con una gran historia que toca los temas ya mencionados y que les puedo decir que concluyendo por lo escrito anteriormente en la reseña, esta filme vale la pena, considero que es un 10, aunque claro que puede tener ciertos detalles, pero la percepción que me dejó es de una historia casi perfecta y una ejecución maravillosa. Por lo que puede decir que se las recomiendo, estoy seguro de que les encantará.
