The Legend of William Tell // Movie Review [ENG-ESP]

William Tell is the film I am going to give you my opinion on this time. The film is from 2024, directed by Nick Hamm, and is a historical epic that reimagines the Swiss legend of the archer William Tell with a modern and dramatic approach. I don't know if this story is based on real events, but what I can tell you is that this production is full of adventure, action, and drama, with a medieval plot set in the 14th century. The filmmaker himself, Nick Hamm, was responsible for the screenplay for this film.

The plot of the film is set in 1307, where we have William Tell, one of the best archers of the time, who in his youth fought in the wars that were taking place at the time, a time of great violence, although unfortunately this is still present today, as humans live in constant war. Tell decided never to use violence again, but his country, Switzerland, was under the control of the Austrian Empire, a tyranny that oppressed the people of that country, so its inhabitants, tired of mistreatment, decided to fight for their freedom. The Swiss people's struggle was against the Habsburg King, Albert, and the governor in charge of Switzerland, Viceroy Gessler, both of whom were evil and ruthless.

I found the story of this film quite interesting, learning about the legendary Tell and his fight for Swiss independence at a time when the struggle against empires was at its height, the fight against oppression and taxes. At first, I had quite high expectations for the film, and the truth is that it went from less to more. At first, the story was quite slow, a bit tedious, with a lot of dialogue and less action. What I like most about medieval films is the adventure, the action, and the fighting between knights. Well, at the beginning of this film, there was little of that, but towards the end, that's where we see the good stuff. The plot isn't perfect; some parts are good, others not so good. It has its positive and negative aspects.

El filme es del año 2024, dirigida por Nick Hamm, siendo una épica histórica que reimagina la leyenda suiza del arquero Guillermo Tell con un enfoque moderno y dramático. Ciertamente, no sé si esta historia es basada en hechos reales, lo que sí les puedo decir es que esta producción está llena de aventura, acción y drama, con una trama medieval del Siglo XIV. El mismo cineasta, Nick Hamm, fue el encargado del guion de esta película.

La trama del filme está ambientada en los años 1307, donde tenemos a Guillermo Tell, uno de los mejores arqueros de la época, quien en su juventud lucho en las guerras que se desarrollaban en la época, un tiempo de mucha violencia aunque bueno en la actualidad aún están presentes, pues los humanos vivimos en guerras constantes. Tell decidió más nunca usar la violencia, pero su país, Suiza, estaba bajo el control del imperio Austriaco, una tiranía que tenía oprimido a los pueblos de dicho país, por lo que sus habitantes, cansados de maltratos, decidieron luchar por su libertad. La lucha de los pueblos suizos fue contra el Rey de Habsburgo, Alberto, y el gobernador encargado en Suiza, virrey Gessler, siendo ambos malvados y despiadados.

La historia de este filme me pareció bastante interesante, conocer sobre el Legendario Tell y su lucha por la independencia de Suiza, en una época donde la lucha con los imperios estaba en su apogeo, la lucha por la opresión y los impuestos. En un principio tenía las expectativas bastante altas con el filme y la verdad es que fue de menos a más. Al principio la historia bastante lenta, un poco tediosa, mucho diálogo y menos acción. Lo que más me gusta de ver de las películas medievales es la aventura, la acción y la lucha entre los caballeros. Pues al principio de esto hubo poco, pero hacia el final es donde vemos lo bueno. Una trama que no es perfecta, unas son de cal y otras de arena, tiene sus aspectos positivos y negativos.

The dialogue was often quite poor, although there were some interesting moments. I should mention that I watched the film with Spanish (Spain) dubbing, and to be honest, this may have ruined my experience a little; I prefer Latin American Spanish or the original language. I switched to English, as this is a British film, and the experience was the same, with no notable changes in this regard. It was a film that was difficult to follow in terms of the story and what they were trying to convey to the audience. Another point is that I was left wanting to know more about the characters, even William. I think it would have been a good idea to delve a little deeper into the characters' lives, as some of them were interesting. I even think it would have been interesting to know why William Tell made his decision, as something was shown, but I think it was rather poor. The truth is that the story is quite weak. There are moments when it wants to take flight, but it falls back into the same pitfalls mentioned above.

As far as the cast is concerned, I think Claes Bang did his best with what he had as William Tell. The cast is full of various actors and actresses, and I can say the same thing as before: they all did their best with what they had in terms of the script and what the producer ultimately asked of them. Ben Kingsley's performance as King Albert stands out, and although he had few minutes on screen, his performance was exceptional, at least in my personal opinion. As for the cinematography, I liked it a lot. It was one of the best things about the film, with excellent locations and splendid shots, which is where Nick Hamm's direction really shines. I should also mention the costumes, which I think were all appropriate for the period. These films require a lot of research to make the adaptation as faithful as possible.

Muchas veces los diálogos eran bastante pobres, aunque sí que encontramos momentos bastante interesantes. Algo que debo mencionar es que vi el filme con el doblaje de español (España) y para ser sincero puede ser algo que arruinara un poco mi experiencia, prefiero en latino o bien en el idioma original. Lo cambié al inglés, pues esta es una película británica y las sensaciones fueron las mismas, sin muchos cambios que destacan en este sentido. Una película que era difícil de seguir la historia y lo que querían tratar de llegar al público. Otro punto es que me quedé con las ganas de conocer más de los personajes, incluso de Guillermo, creo que fuese ha sido un acierto profundizar un poco más en la vida de los personajes, pues algunos eran interesantes. Incluso creo que hubiese sido interesante conocer porque Guillermo Tell tomó la decisión, pues se mostró algo, pero pienso que bastante pobre. La verdad es que bastante floja en lo que a la historia se refiere hay momentos que quiere alzar el vuelo, pero vuelve a caer en los mismos baches ya mencionados.

En lo que al cast se refiere, Claes Bang como Guillermo Tell creo que hizo lo posible con lo que tuvo. El cast es lleno de varios actores y actrices y puedo decir lo mismo que lo anterior, todos hicieron lo mejor posible con lo que contaban en cuanto a guion se refiere y con lo que finalmente les pidió el productor. Destacar la presencia de Ben Kingsley como el rey Alberto y aunque tuvo pocos minutos en pantalla, fue excepcional su actuación, al menos como opinión personal. En cuanto a la fotografía se refiere, me gustó bastante, siendo de las mejores cosas del filme, con excelentes países y tomas espléndidas, que allí sí que hay que darle un punto a favor a la dirección de Nick Hamm. También debo destacar el vestuario, considero que todo adecuado a la época y es que estas películas requieren de bastante investigación para que la adaptación sea lo más fiel posible.

The sound is another highlight of the film Guillermo Tell, with excellent compositions by Steven Price, who was responsible for the soundtrack. The music perfectly complements the story being told, the oppression of the Swiss people and the epic rebellion, which I think is one of the reasons why I continued watching the film. This film has some good messages, the fight against tyranny, the desire for freedom and also the desire for peace among the Swiss people of the time, a great desire of Tell's. The story has great potential, but I think it failed to live up to expectations. There are some good moments, but overall it is a poor film in several ways, as I mentioned earlier when I discussed each aspect of the film, especially the plot. Would I recommend it? Not really, it all depends on each person's taste. Despite not recommending it, I wanted to share the review, because you don't always have to bring up well-rated films, as there are others that we think we are going to like and end up being the opposite.

El sonido es otro de los apartados de la película de Guillermo Tell, con buenas composiciones por parte de Steven Price, quien estuvo encargado de la banda sonora. Unas músicas que cumplen con creces la historia que se está contando, la opresión del pueblo suizo y la épica de la rebelión, creo que es uno de los motivos por lo cual continué viendo el filme. Esta película tiene buenos mensajes, la lucha contra la tiranía, el deseo de la libertad y el querer también la paz de los pueblos de Suiza de la época, un gran deseo de Tell. La historia tiene gran potencial, pero creo que no cumplió con las expectativas, hay momentos buenos, pero en general una película pobre en varios sentidos, tal como les dije anteriormente cuando toqué cada apartado del filme, en especial de la trama. ¿La recomendaría? La verdad es que no, todo depende del gusto de cada persona. A pesar de no recomendarla, quise compartir la reseña, pues no siempre hay que traer película bien valorada, pues hay otras, la cual creemos que nos van a gustar y termina siendo lo contrario.
