Memoir of a Snail: Movie Review [ENG-ESP]
Hace poco vi esta película, Memorias de un Caracol y aunque en principio me gustó luego analizarla con la cabeza fría pude ver que pese a entretenida, muchas de las cosas que suceden en esta película pasan porque sí. La historia es una secuencia de trágicos eventos que les suceden a los protagonistas, un par de gemelos que desde su nacimiento pierden a su madre, su padre queda incapacitado para trabajar, se vuelve alcohólico y entran en pobreza hasta obvia y esperada muerte del padre de estos dos hermanos. La niña es separada de su hermano ya que fueron adoptados por familias diferentes, iniciando así nuevamente un ciclo de malas vivencias y de muy mala suerte para ellos dos.
I recently saw this movie, Memoirs of a Snail, and although I liked it at first, after analyzing it with a cool head I could see that despite being entertaining, many of the things that happen in this movie happen just because. The story is a sequence of tragic events that happen to the main characters, a pair of twins who lose their mother at birth, their father is unable to work, becomes an alcoholic and falls into poverty until the obvious and expected death of the father of these two siblings. The girl is separated from her brother since they were adopted by different families, thus starting a new cycle of bad experiences and very bad luck for both of them.
A nivel visual es una película que me gustó, está hecha enteramente en stop-motion y aunque he de admitir que en cuanto a diseño de personajes es algo sombrío y en muchas ocasiones grotesco, personalmente me pareció visualmente llamativo por ese mismo motivo y creo que le da bastante personalidad en términos generales, además el mundo también está hecho acorde a la apariencia de los personajes y eso le da un toque bastante bueno a esta película. Esta película no es para niños muy pequeños, ya que toca temas muy de adultos y aunque el humor en muchas ocasiones es simple, también hay un humor bastante más maduro y de índole sexual.
Visually it is a film that I liked, it is made entirely in stop-motion and although I must admit that in terms of character design is somewhat gloomy and often grotesque, I personally found it visually striking for that reason and I think it gives quite a personality in general terms, plus the world is also made according to the appearance of the characters and that gives a pretty good touch to this film. This film is not for very young children, as it touches on very adult themes and although the humor is often simple, there is also some more mature and sexual humor.
La película especialmente se centra en la hermana gemela, la cual ha sido adoptada por una pareja de swinger y no le prestan atención a su hija adoptada. Por otra parte, el hermano gemelo es adoptado por una familia religiosa al extremo, a tal punto que esclavizan y explotan laboralmente a sus hijos, siendo el hermano gemelo el más rebelde de los dos y por ende el que más choca con todo el tema religioso de su nueva familia.
The film especially focuses on the twin sister, who has been adopted by a swinger couple and they pay no attention to their adopted daughter. On the other hand, the twin brother is adopted by a religious family to the extreme, to the point that they enslave and exploit their children for labor, the twin brother being the more rebellious of the two and therefore the one who clashes the most with the whole religious theme of his new family.
La hermana gemela durante toda la película adquiere una obsesión por coleccionar caracoles, desde reales, hasta juguetes y cualquier otro producto relacionado con esta criatura, una obsesión la cual sería el eje central de la película y lo que la hace estancarse en una parte de su vida. Durante toda la película no pasan de sucederles cosas malas a este par de hermanos, la situación no mejora y siento que algunas veces es un poco exagerado todas las malas situaciones que viven estos dos hermanos, porque parece que las cosas malas les suceden porque así debe ser y no por algún motivo más grande.
The twin sister throughout the film acquires an obsession for collecting snails, from real ones, to toys and any other product related to this creature, an obsession which would be the central axis of the film and what makes her stagnate in a part of her life. During the whole movie bad things happen to this pair of siblings, the situation does not improve and I feel that sometimes it is a little exaggerated all the bad situations that these two siblings live, because it seems that bad things happen to them because it must be so and not for some greater reason.
Quizás el hecho de que la hermana gemela esté estancada en su mala situación, tanto sentimental como mental hace que las cosas malas aumenten cada vez más, pero luego de haber analizado mejor la película quizás fue demasiado. Sorprendentemente el final de la película fue lo que más me sorprendió, ya que sin entrar en spoilers, sucede algo con su hermano gemelo que desde que nos presentaron ese acontecimiento, debido a la deprimente tonalidad e historia de esta película pensé que lo que le había sucedido a él si había pasado en realidad, pero al final hubo una sorpresa alegre al final para estos dos hermanos.
Maybe the fact that the twin sister is stuck in her bad situation, both sentimentally and mentally makes the bad things increase more and more, but after having analyzed the movie better maybe it was too much. Surprisingly the end of the movie was what surprised me the most, because without going into spoilers, something happens with his twin brother that since we were introduced to that event, due to the depressing tonality and story of this movie I thought that what had happened to him had actually happened, but in the end there was a happy surprise at the end for these two siblings.
La película en si no es mala, es bastante entretenida, cómica en varios aspectos y aunque es una opción más que personal, visualmente me gustó bastante. Una película que te deja al enseñanza que a veces no hay que aferrarse a ciertas cosas de la vida, porque puede que no te des cuenta que te puede estar afectando en diferentes formas, salir de tu zona de confort no es algo malo y que siempre hay que experimentar nuevas cosas que te puedan dejar un enseñanza. Es una película que vale la pena mirarla a pesar de sus pequeños detalles en la historia.
The movie itself is not bad, it is quite entertaining, comical in several aspects and although it is a more than personal choice, visually I liked it a lot. A movie that teaches you that sometimes you should not cling to certain things in life, because you may not realize that it can be affecting you in different ways, leaving your comfort zone is not a bad thing and you should always experience new things that can teach you something. It is a film worth watching despite its minor details in the story.
